Gee... the Byers' house belongs to someone else, now, but they'll need to get a new house when they move back to Hawkins (you know it's going to happen; that's where the plot is). Joyce is now mom to an extra kid (who happens to be Hopper's daughter), so it'll probably be a bigger house. When Hopper gets back, he'll need to live _somewhere..._ because his cabin got destroyed by the Mind Flayer's guts-monster (and of _course_ Hopper will be back. He had 2-3 seconds of time in which to run back and jump through the gate after the machine and the wall-o-electricity was turned off but before it pulsed the whole room and fried everyone in it, while the gate to the Upside Down was still... squishy). So I'm fairly certain that this show is headed towards this resolution where these damaged people are drawn together by their shared trauma, and they form a blended family. I think it's important for completing El's arc, given that she was deprived of a real family for her first few years of life.

Idk about jumping through the gate but I suppose it's either that or he found some other escape. And when he does return and reunite with everyone I bet it won't be until closer to the conclusion of season 4.
