Sovereignty is first economic, then political. As true then as it is today. As misguided as the plan was, I can not falut them for seeking economic independence.

Yep. The public bought into Paterson’s bullshit, assuming his reports were accurate even though he’d never set foot there. It was only so great a loss because so many fell for the fantasy.

@@UtopiaPlanitiaStudios Which begs the question: Why did no one at the time ask the pertinent questions of, "where", "when", "who" and of course "How are you going to protect this from...well, everyone else?" I mean, even the Spanish had the Spanish Main raided to the point of incontinence. But I guess, the dreary details of logistics will always play second fiddle when national pride is involved.
