If you play through the Modern Warfare campaigns just know that the most recent game, Modern Warfare 2019, is a reboot with a completely different story to the original trilogy - CoD 4, MW2 and MW3

Caleb Francis yeah it’s a different story. With the dates given in each game, MW 2019 would take place nearly 3 years after the end of MW3, meaning the only returning characters from the trilogy still alive by that point would be Price and Nikolai

I agree. but i also understand that puritans didn't like that it was not their idea of call of duty. if it had released as a non-affiliated game it would have definitely received a better reception, but once the CoD fans started complaining about 'Not my CoD' the bandwagon was set and ready to go. I loved the campaign and all that was in it. but i play the games for single player only. sorry, but i have Titanfall 2 for my MP itch.

Besides "Grenades at war" that was frustratingly broken vs hard. COD classic is still the one that was tricky on Vet. No med pack, no feet that grow back out. The HP you had, had to last for the entire level. The Jason Statham truck level took ages I remember. Hardest 10 Gamerscore I've ever worked for. But still... an amazing game to start with. 3 is the only really bad one IMO. As that was made for the Wii controls vs the PS3 or 360 controller. So it had a ton of quick-time events that ruined the flow vs other games.

I have good memories of CoD2 because back in my high school days, (when they were the final days before vacation) I would go to a specific classroom. The classroom was filled with CRT old school PCs and they were all on the same network, which meant LAN PARTY! it was fun playing cod with a bunch of people in the classroom and we would make funny usernames(teacher names or memes). Last place in the free for all had to give up their seat for someone else. This was in like 2015.

You should definitely start with CoD1-3. They might be a bit more bare bones than the newer games, but they were so influential on the FPS genre as a whole, and the campaigns still hold up today. CoD2 is still the loudest game I’ve ever played and captures the atmosphere of war so well

Unpopular opinion but as a long time Call of Duty fan I genuinely enjoyed Infinite Warfare’s single player and gameplay. It was extremely futuristic yes and I see why it would throw some people off, but in an annual franchise it felt extremely fresh to me at the time and I can’t deny how well done the story is.
