We first started watching Cruising The Cut a few years ago, where we found our first exposure to the narrowboat lifestyle and community, and now our love of narrowboats. We have watched a few other channels, after David's, Great Canal Journey's with Tim and Prue, Country House Gent, Narrowboat Cruising & Lifestyle, Narrowboat Chef, Minimal List, Cruising Alba, The Narrowboat Pirate and currently Robbie Cumming. We have watched each series, taking months, each one from beginning to end, while drinking our morning coffee. 😁😁😁 It is wonderful to have experienced the different narrowboat channels, some places we have been with them all ready, sometimes a new spot to moor up, or different marinas, or repair spots, stores, pubs, and the assortment of family and friends. However, each boater has a different view and each has their own way of enjoying and traveling the canals, which makes even having been to someplace or up and down the same locks, a joy to see again. This has also encouraged us to look up places, to look into amazing historical places in more depth. Narrowboats are a lovely way to start the day, upbeat adventures, and the delightfully fun personalities. We keep watching each of these channels, except Tim and Prue, who sadly had to stop their adventures. We feel invested in these narrowboat lives as a peaceful bit of time in a chaotic world. 💙👍😁✌️😊

You made me laugh when you said ' never go faster than your prepared to hit something ' My mum in law ,decided at 60 yr old that she needed to learn to drive? and looked for a lunatic to teach her, my hubby,her son thought it was safer to take her to a local deserted industrial estate for the first lesson, it was all going fine until a dog walked out of a bush,the car was moving at a snails pace, and despite hubby screaming 'BRAKE !!!!' she hit the dog,who didn't feel a thing, he just looked at the hysterical woman driving and the hysterical lunatic in the passenger seat,barked twice and walked off. Here ended the first and last lesson. ☺

Hi Heidi, Phil here from NZ. Love your Keyboard skills and watched Will practicing on his latest vlog. Cant play a note but now I am interested. Oh and another way to teach about the tiller movements. I sail, so I tell all my crew this: As you face forward, tiller in hand, watch the bow of the boat against the horizon, in your case the canal. If the bow is moving to the right, move the tiller arm to the right. If to the left, then tiller arm to the left. Amount of tiller movement varies with the speed of the bow movement. See simple. Please don't stop being outrageous, ever, we all love it. Be safe and keep warm.

Your video brought back some great memories, especially when you went down the Prees arm. A Year ago last september, My wife and I alonge with my cousin and her husband had the holiday from hell that we thoroughly enjoyed, everything went wrong. Our third day in we woke to nothing working, the domestic batterys had gone completely flat. I quickly worked out that the alternator for the domestic batterys had failed, luckily we were able to start our engine. We phoned Anglo Welsh from whom we had hired our boat and they said to get to Whixall Marina where they had a workshop. We spent a very pleasant day there while their mechanic stripped out and fitted a new alternator for us. What a lovely place that is.

We were on the Llangollen for the whole of August 2015 - it was rammed and like a boat world M6 🙈. We went exploring along the Monty while we were there; had a hysterical time with walkie talkies along the narrows en route to Llangollen; watched the carnival procession in Ellesmere; had a dreadful meal at the Poachers Pocket; a big family get together at a pub/restaurant next to a lock, the name of which escapes me; got lost taking a ‘short cut’ across some fields from the canal going (well, trying to go) into Whitchurch and hijacked a boat at the lift bridge at the end of the Whitchurch Arm to get a lift back to our boat, but we never did go up the Preese arm. So I’m more than happy to go along with you guys xx

I’ve had a strange convergence this week - my narrowboat subscriptions melded themselves together. Cruising the Cut went out on the Rum Wench and, if I heard the audio correctly, Heidi got a biscuit from the new owners of Silver Fox, formerly owned by Foxes Afloat. I thought the silver/grey and black boat in the background looked familiar. Canal life is truly a small community of great people producing great content. A big shout out and thanks to all of you from “just beginning to thaw” southern Ontario, Canada. I can see bits of open water and long to put the boats back in the lake … soon. In the meantime, I will live vicariously - and hilariously with the double entendres. It wouldn’t have been nearly as racy if you had got battery powered socks instead - just sayin’

I got my first snow of the winter yesterday but it melted fast. I'm moored by the Barge Inn near Devizes with three other boats. We're a mixed bunch and we've been helping each other through the winter. It's nice to be in a little convoy. My cat loves all the attention she gets and we all get each others company. I haven't much experience steering narrowboats, but when steering I realised I was only turning the back end. So I needed to point the tiller in the direction the back end needed to go. That helped me get my head around it abit.

The Rum Wench ( a pirate boat ) . With a deep draft and a big propeller she's a bit of a handful in the windy weather , there's no walking the plank like at sea , that's not allowed by the CRT . Her captain keeps her in a straight line and she needs to as well from time to time . The old Lister engine makes a hell of a clatter, it's a wonder that the windows don't shatter. Love this video I might have to get one of those jackets. Next bear hunt. Last time packing out the bear my hip froze. Got some frost bite on my fingers. Not good. This year my be the bear hunt. I have a little event that made me laugh. My cat generally comes into the cabin through the back door if she's been out ranging. The other week on a cool frosty morning she went out for her morning stroll. I couldn't get my boat up to the bank where I was moored so she had to jump to the bank. When she got back she decided it was a good idea to leap onto the rear deck from the bank, her landing was perfectly in the centre of the deck but it was a bit wet and slippery from rain so she skidded right across the deck and off the side of the boat into the cut. She swam well but didn't appreciate her dip at all. She was in the boat like a flash and is none the worse for her experience but she insists on me letting her in through the duck hatch since.
