We had never seen Balmoral Castle until NOW! Amazing, spectacular, gorgeous... too many adjectives to describe this Heaven like place! Queen Elizabeth certainly had amazing taste as well as Queen Victoria. This was great to see and so glad that we did! We hope you enjoy it as well. Please hit the Like button if you do.

Story from Queen's Bodyguard: "There were two hikers coming towards us and the Queen would always stop and say hello. It was two Americans on a walking holiday and it was clear they hadn't recognised her, which was fine." "The American man asked her if she lived in the area to which she replied that she did indeed have a house nearby. "She said that she lived in London but had a house just over the hill, and he asked how often she had been coming up here. "She said she'd been coming up for more than 80 years and you could see the cogs were ticking. He said: 'Well if you've been coming up here for 80 years, you must have met the Queen?' "As quick as a flash, she said 'Well I haven't but Dick here meets her regularly.' So the guy asked me what she was like. "Anyway the next thing I knew, this guy comes round, puts his arm around my shoulder, and before I could see what is happening, he gives his camera to the Queen and asks her to take a photo of us. "Anyway, we swapped places, I took a photo of them with the Queen, we never let on and we waved goodbye. Then Her Majesty said to me that she'd love to be a fly on the wall when he shows these photos to his American friends and hopefully someone tells him who I am."

The Queen said when she drove through the gates of Balmoral she hung her crown on the gates and became just a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. I live in Edinburgh and had the privilege on Tuesdsy evening of seeing her lying at rest in St Giles. Thank you ladies ❤

There's a lovely story from many years ago that the Queen was walking near Balmoral with a single gamekeeper when they happened across an American tourist hiking. They got talking and the American, not realising who he was talking to, asked if they had ever met the Queen. Her Majesty reply replied, "no, I haven't. But he has." The American was so happy to meet someone who had met the Queen that he asked Her Majesty to take a picture of him with the Gamekeeper. She also got him to have a picture taken with her, after which they parted company having never identified herself to the tourist. I would love to have seen his face the first time he showed that photo to someone who recognised her!

They are more holiday homes, Buckingham Palace was “living above the shop” business, Windsor the weekend respite. I don’t think King Charles will be living above the shop, but will continue in the older London Palace that he currently uses. Partly because Buckingham Palace is being re-wired.

Now bothies aren't luxury, they're literally a roof and four walls to keep the weather off and maybe a fireplace to keep warm, but no water or electric. But bothies are required to be open to the public.

From what I've read recently, the Queen reduced the prices of the holiday homes at Balmoral drastically so people could have a holiday without it costing too much as she was aware of the cost of living at the moment. She loved Balmoral as she could walk around freely and you could meet her when she was out walking her dogs.

We passed by the Balmoral area the day before the Queen died. Weirdly, we were heading to a hotel a bit further south on the afternoon of her death, driving along a pretty deserted country road here in Scotland. We came round a corner to see a Golden Eagle sitting on the road in front of us. It saw our car, hesitated for a moment and then took off and flew away. Its wingspan was enormous and I could still clearly see it minutes later as it flew into the distance. The weird thing is, seeing a Gloden Eagle signifies ‘majesty’ and this would be about 2 hrs before the Balmoral announcement of the Queens death. I have seen Golden Eagles before but never anything this close or in such bizarre circumstances..

I think many funny things would likely have happened that day. Emotions have energy and we live in an energetic universe. The tie between the Queen and the UK is so strong, it makes sense to me that during her transition, there would have been a lot of disruption of various kinds.

I live in Aberdeen which is where the Royal family fly to and from when they visit Balmoral. The castle falls within the boundary of the town of Ballater, which is absolutely beautiful. Most of the shops there carry the Royal Warrant which they proudly display on their shop fronts. You can visit Balmoral when the family are not in residence, but mainly the grounds and the Ballroom; their private rooms are not open to the public. Her Majesty was said to be at her happiest when she was here; the scenery is so awe inspiring that this part of Royal Deeside is commonly referred to as “God’s Country.” I have been very emotional since Her Majesty’s passing; perhaps more so because she died here and her cortège passed through so many of the towns we class as “home”. We are heartbroken at her death and are visiting Balmoral tomorrow. I would have gone sooner but have been working abroad. Have never been prouder to be a Scottish Brit; I think as a country, we’ve afforded The Queen the respect and deference she so richly deserved.

What a touching and heartfelt opening to the video!! It has been said many times and there is footage of Queen Elizabeth driving herself around Balmoral Estate in her Land Rover, often at high speed. I think I also recall a story that she was driving a Saudi Prince once who asked her to slow down but the Queen reportedly grinned and sped up as a slight dig for the laws surrounding women not being able to drive in his country. Balmoral and Windsor castle are both my favourites.

Hey Ladies, Yes the Balmoral estate was one of 2 private estates of The Queen. This was there chill down place in the summer months. I listened to a former head Royal chef and he said it wasn't uncommon for Prince Phillip to decide he'd cook for everyone while at Balmoral. The other titbit of history is that The Queen would invite the Prime Minister and his/her family to Balmoral for a week in September. There'd be a dinner party on arrival where the Queen and other Royals would cook and serve the Prime minister dinner. I watch ex PM Tony Blair talk about how odd this was to him after he became prime minister and went with his family to stay the first time. Apparently he tried to help grab some food and got told no this night you're our guest and must just sit at the table and not do anything!

Three days ago I was honored to have the village I grew up in (Aboyne) be one of the little villages the Queen's coffin passed through Royal Deeside. I was also honoured to be able to be there to as she passed through to say goodbye. I have only met the Queen once when I was still at school and in the choir and we got to go up and perform at the Crathie Kirk when the Queen was up on one of her many holiday's and although our meeting was quick she seemed to genuinely seemed to take a real interest in everyone one of us and made us feel really special. May she rest in peace.

Weekdays at Buckingham Palace and weekends at Windsor Castle. They have a number of other castles and palaces through the U.K. they also use.

While in residence the Queen often walked the grounds and met locals on their walks, she was always happy to stop and chat with people, and I believe this is the only location where people could meet and talk to the Queen without her security, or the pomp and ceremony. She loved Balmoral and the town close by, in my view I feel it gave her a sense of normality and the ability to mix with others.

I know it's not the same as being there, but you can shop online at the Balmoral Gift Shop. My favourite of the Royal residences in the UK is Windsor Castle because I love history and it was built by William the Conqueror in the 11th century. It's spectacular and also has massive grounds. When you come to the UK, be sure to sit on the left side of the plane so that when it descends just before landing at Heathrow airport you will have a wonderful view of Windsor Castle. You will be quite low at that point so can see everything so clearly. By the way, do you never think of looking at Google maps/aerial view to see places? You would have been able to see what Balmoral looked like if you had. I love being able to virtually explore places on Google maps street view but many people don't seem to realise they can do that.

I'm lucky enough to live in Aberdeenshire and it is very beautiful, if you are able to watch the footage recently of the queen's coffin traveling from Balmoral to Edinburgh, you will get a real flavour of the countryside. Aberdeenshire has the most castles per square mile than anywhere else in the UK and is home to Dunnottar Castle which you have seen before, the castle on the cliff edge.

When one considers that the entirety of the UK (England, Scotland, Wales, and NI) is smaller than the state of Wyoming, the country truly boasts a range of landscapes and natural beauty which is amazing. Of course, Balmoral in Scotland, Sandringham in Norfolk, and the Princes' homes in Wales, Southwest England, and in Scotland are each owned privately by the royals. Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace, Windsor, Holyrood, and Hillsborough are owned by the Crown, and thus controlled and run by the state. It is interesting that the Queen died at her private home, Balmoral. George VI and his father George V both died at thrir favourite private home at Sandringham. Victoria died at her smaller, private home, Osborne House on the Isle of White. The only monarch to die at Buckingham Palace was Edward VII in 1910.

Debbie the words you were groping for were crenellations (upy and downy bits) and turrets (roundy bits) :-) As a Brit with a great respect for the Queen and traddition I appreciate your sensitivity. Balmoral was as close as they could get to being normal - wearing old clothes, walking in the grounds with the dogs and jumping in the Landrover to go to the shops. It kept them sane and connected.

When you showed ‘you can rest now you earned it.’ That got to me, as so many people work hard all their life but do not get this respect. Which I find sad. Queen Victoria had a very large family so a big holiday home was necessary! There is a video of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip and the 4 children preparing a BBQ at Balmoral by the lake. Philip organised the family and did the cooking.

Her Late Majesty's favourite residence. They generally dined on game and fish that have been shot or caught on the estate, favourites being fresh salmon and venison. Don't forget that Victoria and Albert had nine children. They would also need rooms for guests and servants. Both of the late Queen's private residences (Balmoral and Sandringham) were partially open to the public, when she was not in residence. None of the royals like living in Buckingham Palace.

Hi girls another lovely vlog. As a Bavarian Prince Albert modelled the castle, with its turrets on castles in his home land. They are not normally seen on British castles. You will see a lot like this in other European countries. x

You will see such turrets on Scottish castles from the 1500s onwards. Check out Craigievar Castle (Disney could have modelled his own castle on Craigievar, which incidentally is also linked to important UK transgender law), Castle Fraser, Crathes Castle, Drum Castle, and many more. It's far more likely to be down to the European connections more important to Scotland than to England and to the Auld Alliance than to a German prince centuries later. The style is known as Scottish Baronial in architecture.

If you're interested, the style of architecture is called 'Scottish Baronial' or 'Scots Baronial'. It is a Gothic revival based on the architecture of the buildings of the late Middle Ages in Scotland and is a very common style of architecture in Scotland, especially in Edinburgh!

Balmoral is a fantastic place and I agree with you, one would want to stay there all the time not just for holidays. As you are a self confessed castle fan I must sayy that it is a very fine country estate house but not a real castle, not built for defence. What a wonderful place though, easy to see why the Queen loved it.

I knew a work colleague who, when on holiday there, was having a nice walk through the woods and saw a lady walking towards her with a dog. Yes, it was indeed the Queen, and they exchanged pleasantries about the weather and location. All very British don't you know! 😀

Thank you so much for your kind thoughts regarding our late Gracious Queen Elizabeth 11 I am Scottish and in May this year I visited Balmoral Castle with a group of friends. We were allowed to walk around the gardens and inside the Castle we were only allowed into the Ballroom, where we saw some of the Queens outfits she wore when at the Castle. It was lovely and we knew HM would soon be going there on holiday. Sadly that was her last time there. Then we went to The Queen's late Mother's home Glamis Castle, where we were given a guided tour inside, This Castle is stunning inside as well as out, we were in every room and it was something I will never forget. That is worth a visit. Family still live there in a separate wing to where we were. Maybe you will in the future be able to visit, you both would be impressed as I was. I love watching you both as you find out our culture, and your comments. which is lovely to hear. Keep going I watch you both all the time and love listening to your lovely comments, especially regards our Military. My son was a Scots Guard, I am so proud he did his duty to Queen and Country.

Where you see the steps at the garden , a couple in our group just right at the steps the guy ex military got down on bended knee and asked his girlfriend to marry him. It was lovely, so was the diamond ring he gave her!! She was not expecting that and there was a few tears of happiness, and the rest of the group shed a few tears as well.

Hi ladies, recently found your site. Thank you so much for being so respectful about our Royal Family. If you haven't visited yet, you really should come over to Europe - if you love castles, you will be blown away. Here in the UK we have many very beautiful and impressive castles as well as stately homes that you can visit. You will be kept very busy! Many properties that are currently resided in are also open to the public - just not the private quarters. I would have thought that Balmoral will keep it's opening hours to the public. Have you ever seen the videos of HMTQ and Prince Philip Scottish dancing? She looks just so happy.

I remember visiting Balmoral Castle a few years ago, you can go into only a couple of rooms for obvious reasons but those rooms are beautiful. I remember me and my family driving past the day after visiting and the Royal flag was flying which meant the Queen was there. that was amazing to see. And only a few weeks before she passed I visited Sandringham Estate, which is another private property which is where they spend Christmas each year. It is such a beautiful Estate.

You’re absolutely correct. Prince Philip did indeed die in April 2021. Seeing the Queen as a somewhat lonely figure at the funeral was truly heartbreaking so it’s a small consolation that she shared her platinum jubilee with so much warmth from the public.

You can visit the castle! Walk round the grounds and sometimes they open specific rooms for people to see. It’s AMAZING!! You should definitely visit if you’re even in Scotland

The castle is already open to the public during the summer months and closes again around a week before the Royal party arrive for their summer break. If you like castles, Aberdeenshire is your place :) I read somewhere that there are over 200 (including Balmoral)! People don't seem to visit the area much which is a shame. I'm biased as it's home for me though...and my mum made some of the fences around the gardens at Balmoral :P I think King Charles might open up Balmoral more to visitors. I love you two more with every video I watch! I moved away from the UK 3 years ago, so I'm loving the videos of home!
