A lot of bands, possibly even the majority of them, go through a drummer or two, and nobody really notices it since most of them are pretty similar. However, some bands' sound is partly defined by their drummer, and going through a drummer change would have a noticeable effect. The National is one of those bands.

R.E.M. is a good example of a drummer leaving changing their sound.

The Cure as well

Pearl Jam is a fine example as well. All four drummers who recorded and played live with them for longer periods of time have had a significantly different feel, but are different beasts in their own right.

Bands like Tool and Dave Matthews Band, were they to lose their drummer, would likely disband or form another band under a different name.

It seemed obvious that he became overwhelmed by the emotion of the song. After it's over you see him quake a bit still feeling it. I think the screaming was an attempt to finish strong and bring some closure to it all. He could barely contain himself though. Then again I'm drunk and it's 2am so who knows

I forget where I heard or read this, but I remember Matt saying that because “Graceless” is a very wordy song, he only screams at the end if he remembers all the lyrics, so that the screaming is a nice little incentive to remember the lyrics. Could have just been his attempt at humor, though!

I'm a pro drummer. Personally whoever this dude is? My personal top 15 ever. Nothing necessarily difficult. Just absolutely brilliant this entire album. I put it in the Paul Cook category on bullocks. Every beat was perfection to each song. I cannot do that through one tune! Sort of like, of course Malmsteen could outplay Page.
