I think this album sort of grabbed a whole lot of elements we've been hearing from Clipping, Death Grips, Pink Siifu, Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE, JPEGMAFIA, Shabazz Palaces, etc etc and just pushes it all a little bit further. I've seen some people calling it Post-Rap and I think that's a good description. It's an album that's been a long time coming, and it's great to see that it was Injury Reserve that did it - if this is their last album then they've ended on a tragic but very high note.

This album was everything I didn't expect it to be and hoped for at the same time... they went SO LEFT-FIELD. Parker went fucking ham on the production. Ritchie's delivery was more sporadic and all over the place. One of the BEST experimental records (not just experimental hip-hop) to highlight one of the BEST hip-hop acts to emerge in recent memory. RIP Groggs
@ilovecody75143 жыл бұрын
I know Groggs can be kind of hard to talk about on this record but his contributions can't go understated either. He was just as if not more freakish than Ritchie at times. You could really tell Groggs was turning a new point in his rap career and developing his own style. Even on their previously released one off singles he was showing a hunger that wasn't stopping. Groggs you can tell is all over this album though his appearances are obviously going to be more subtle on certain tracks than others still was able to really bring it and make it an Injury Reserve album we could remember.

This is outside of my comfort zone, never heard this group's music before. I just heard the album. I enjoyed it. The first track stood up the most to me, at least on first listen. There were several high lights though. Lyrics were hard to understand, since I don't understand English slang too well, and a lot of lines seemed like "string of consciousness" (which isn't bad, it fitted the vibe)... But, I think it's an an album that is more about emotion. A couple tracks could have been longer, that's true. I heard hopelessness, despair, resignation. Lots of resignation: "the world is the way it is, this relationship can not be saved, this is broken, let's be honest with ourselves and accept the reality, so we can move on", something like that. It didn't felt like a bleeding sadness that makes you cry or scream, it felt more like a mature self-aware sadness that lives under your skin, quietly, on daily life... Or crawls under your bed when you go to sleep. Idk.

BTTIGTP sounds way more authentic than their last project. While I did like IR’s self-titled project it felt a little restrained sonically as each song felt as if it needed to appeal to everyone. Despite the fact that not a whole lot of listeners are keen to their experimental sounds and lyrical flow on top of it. On this new album, the group has manage to outdo themselves in every way possible. Creating a much needed focus on what makes Injury Reserve a unique name in the hip hop community. From the punk rock samples to Ritchie’s versatility in rapping and singing. It all seems effortless as each member follows through each track to paint in a new theme of emotion that ties in to the album’s main topic. Tracks such as Superman That and Postpartum are incredible as they match towards the idea of personal loss. Injury Reserve has definitely been through a lot. BTTIGTP illustrates the group at their best and most vulnerable. Putting in all heart and soul into an album that sees them at the most challenging state of anyone in their life. Definitely nailed it 100%. RIP Groggs.🕊✊🏾

I think this album conveys so well the sense of dread and loss that has been hanging over 2021 for so many of us, yet still manages to be so personal to the experiences of injury reserves members.

It's incredible how different the soundscape is on this album, like how do they even think in this style of music, so out of the norm and insane

Top Picks For You has changed my life. I used to listen to it on repeat when i was going through the most full on state of psychosis, every time i hear it I instantly disassociate and breakdown into a deep depressive and empty void . my connection to the song and my relation to it is just completely disconnected to my entire sense of reality, it's transcendent of my entire existence, as if its from another greater plane of existence that is trying to reveal itself to me and in doing so destroys my connection to reality. There was one night where the song became merged with an onslaught of full sensory hallucinations i had been experiencing, and my perspective of reality had been transformed and twisted to the point where i couldn't even recognise myself anymore. Despite the overwhelming feelings of emptiness, fear and depression that these experiences have caused me, i still sometimes wish i could suffer it all again, just for a glimpse of wherever it was that existed beyond my reality.

Saw IR in Seattle to support this record and I’m amazed by how dark, gritty, experimental, and at the same hauntingly beautiful it is. IR did something every artist hopes to achieve in their lifetime; to capture a feeling that can only be processed from an artistic vessel. Love the record and RIP Groggs ❤️

Well Deserved. A true, Beautiful and sincere tribute to Groggs, but at the same time, a experience for your own. Absolute sadness, a chaotic dispear and loneliness. Cold art piece, however totally Full of emotion and love! Top tier Rap album, w/ Tyler, Nas, Little Simz & Brockhampton

This is genuinely one of if not the most out there, disjointed, tragic, experimental albums I’ve ever heard. I don’t even know how to review it, it’s insane. Injury reserve is so slept on, every project hits. rip groggs

I'm finally emotionally ready to deal with this album. When it first came out I was dealing with my own bs post covid bla bla and then Hroggs untimely passing crushed me. I was so in Injury Reserves corner. They were the smart and fresh newcomers that were being hard done by and ignored (at least in Aus) rap collective for so long that I was ready for them going all in experimental like it kinda sounded like they wanted to do. But sans Groggs post covid. Na. Too challenging for me. Now I've redone their discog, and bawled my eyes out at its conclusion album is definately a solid 9 with a 10 for underpreparation as a band.

I’m surprised he saw Bye Storm as a hopeful ending track. The lyric that goes “They said you're cold, but, damn, I don’t know man” fucking kills me every time I hear it. Like finding out someone close to you has passed and the days after you live normally before it actually hits you. But this album deserves everything because it’s so well thought out and emotion invoking.
@animalbancho17263 жыл бұрын
it isn’t hopeful at all at least lyrically. “it rains, it pours, but damn man. it’s really pouring” says it all. perfect last line for this album

This album really felt like hearing the boundaries of what music, hip-hop, performance, all of it, could be being pushed outward and forward in real time. A treat and an honor to listen to. It's a ten to me for sure. Edit: Also second time in a row one of my favorite tracks on the album has been singled out as Melon's least favorite lmao. He's a mind reader I tell you!

My phone is no more, and waiting for an opportunity (and funds... mainly funds) to get a new iPhone limits me to posting from my mother's phone. I really like the sound of this new album... can't wait for new headphones so I can listen to it. Thank you Melon Man! -D

This record really surprised me - I knew it was going to be good, but this was really something else. Perfect send-off for Groggs while still being forward-thinking and being able to stand as the best work in their catalogue thus far. Hope they continue making music in the future

I loved the singles so I was extremely excited for the album, and I have to say it was a weird first listen. So many of the tracks are low-key and minimal in many ways that I wasn't like, instantly in love - it really wasn't what I was expecting based on the singles. It's still in the process of growing on me, but all in all it is a fantastic record and I'm glad people are loving it

What I love about this record is the way they used all of their talents to make an undefined fluid abstract rapper that sounds like it's programmed a music simulation in the Enderverse. Parker went into another dimension with his creativity and it makes for an insane listen. Glad it got this high of a rating!

This album reminds me of a carnival: where each song is a new exhibit that you walk up to with the atmosphere resembling the album cover. This album was just a change of pace and demonstrates Injury Reserve's ability to set a tone that I clearly was not expecting.
