As a retired carpenter, in always amazed at choices and opinions about wood. Almost always, a 2 piece neck is stronger than a 1 piece. 3 piece etc, etc. when you laminate wood, the end product is stronger than the alternative. Of course that relies on it being properly done. Especially for guitar necks, the extra strength and durability from a laminated neck is just stronger, and In my opinion, better. Being that I'm not always the most coordinated person, it's important. Just my 2 cents. And the point is, didn't worry so much about solid one piece maple vs multiple pieces unless it's just for looking pretty. Peace ✌️

I would totally love to have this model of PRS SE Custom with a Piezo - having a piezo on electric guitars is totally underrated, mostly because electric players don’t know how to best use them. I primarily play acoustic guitar and know how to dial in the piezo with for natural tones and some fun ones (try a DS-1 on acoustic - totally badass! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻) using the pre-amp or EQ. When you have a piezo on an electric with passive/active magnetic pickups, it’s not just about turning the humbuckers or single coils down and getting something similar to acoustic tones, but also knowing how to use all the pickups together. As you showed, when a piezo is engaged and dialed in the right way, the magnetic pickups dynamics and tones can be played with! You can make an electric guitar sound lusher and fuller, you can soften the tones, you can add some brightness or bass, etc. I love reversing the phase with a piezo on its own, or doing it with the magnetic pickups and then adding some piezo into the mix. I’ve bored my friend’s electric guitars from other brands that have piezos, and it’s always fun painting a tone masterpiece and trying new things. Way to show people how to get the best from having a piezo on this Custom 24 SE, Benny! The Zack Myers SE Signature and Hollowbody Piezo II have been the two models I’d love most if I could ever afford to get a PRS since they both have a piezo, but I always wished both models had a vibrato - that would make them perfect for me. The one thing this Custom 24 is missing in my book is two tone knobs and two volumes with coil splitting. I prefer having more knobs, and the Custom 24 only has one tone, one volume. Having 22 vs 24 frets generally doesn’t matter to me (as long as it’s not 21 frets, 😂). If PRS could mash these three SE models together, that would be the ideal SE for me! Great video! Thanks to PRS, for supporting Benny’s neurotica!

Great points there. You might want to look at what Cole Clark is doing with their acoustics. Want a normal acoustic but with HSS and use acoustic guitar strings? Yep. Patented. Different pickup options of course and the use of Australian wood makes these Aussie guitars unique. The founders used to work at Maton, an Aussie icon. Cheers from this Aussie living in NZ 😎🎸🤘

Hi, very cool. I broke human neck in '96, rebuilding up my guitars, got a Se Santana, and a Se Zack Myers. The Santana is pure, nothing more needed, my ZM had same pups, so i put 2 lace Duallies gold sensors, and Push pulls everything. Amazing, getting back is hard, gear is almost untouchable. Be well.

I'd actually love to see more PRS imports around that price, with specs lifted straight out of the Core guitars. I've tried many S2s and borrowed a few for professional use, none of them felt better than SEs, so especially now after they started overcharging for them an SE with closer specs to the Core is much more appealing. Plus I'd even rather get one of these than a used Core, as I'd feel more comfortable using it and not worrying about it.

I reviewed that one on my channel and it was great! I used it at several shows before I reviewed it and setup a pretty slick patch on my Fractal FM3 to handle the dual inputs and dual pickup system. It ended up being used sort of like the album "an evening with petrucci and Rudess" where I did rhythm stuff on piezo with a nice acoustic impulse response and solos with a friedman amp model. Sounded GREAT and I hated having to send it back. I'm pumped to hopefully get to try this new one out soon.

The full hollowbody SE was the same price and easily worth every penny. The top (PRS always use a thicker figured veneer than some other companies), the binding, the extra routing, the piezo system and the USA quality control/inspection in Maryland that all their SE's go through, etc they all cost more money, they take more time to build and that all translates to a higher price. There is literally no other instrument (besides the full hollow body SE) that has the same features for this price. You'd maybe need to find a used Ernie Ball JP6 but even those have jumped way up in price over where they were a few years ago (I sold a mystic dream JP6 for $1500)

Could be Paul just flexing a bit. To prove he can also hit that new Epiphone price range, with SE's. I don't think many younger players will be shelling out that kinda dough. Its obviously targeting the older crowd. Not trying to knock it. But if they went and built thousands of these things. My guess is we'll see them heavily discounted in under a year. I'd bet my $629 dollar McCarty .594 Singlecut Standard in VintageCherry, with the same pickups and LP style controls with coil tap push/pull tone pots. Can get 90% of the same tones, save for the piezo. I'd pay $799. Not a penny more for one, if it had some more subdued colors, and plain top. That's just too flashy. Peace!

$1,600 and they put the shitty “S“ pickups in it. Saved a whole $4 by NOT putting the non “ S “ pickups. Douche move. And in no freakn world is this guitar worth $1,600. $999 MAX and even that’s probably too high. On a side note. I have several guitars from CorTek and Indonesia in general. Almost all of them are better than American. Shit I even just bought a Squier Sonic made in China for $200 new just to see how the factory there is doing. Freakn incredible guitar. Even bone stock it’s a great guitar. Neck and frets are great. Nuts great. Intonated very well. I did my setup on it and it’s a beast. Had it for 2 months and decided to swap from HSS to HSH. A JB in bridge and Jazz in neck. Definitely made a nice difference but also not necessary. The pickups are pretty good stock. I don’t even buy USA guitars at all. I bought a couple PRS a 594 and a 594 SE. Hated them both with a passion. But yeah Indonesia and CorTek specifically, build insanely good guitars. I prefer ESP Japan and Fender Japan over everything else tho.

There's a lot of companies offering good, better, best scenarios where they begin to overlap. For the price I'd buy a used core or S2. But that's just me, you certainly can't get a prs with these features new for that price, but I absolutely agree with your sentiment. Subscribe and join the madness

I don't think the name "student edition" needs to limit what they can do. Names are sometimes just letters and time change, SEs for a while don't have the image of student guitars but professional instruments at way more attainable prices compared to an equivalent guitar from the US.

@@TheNeuroticGuitarist agreed. I think my point got lost. My point was: the SE line of guitars are probably the best and most feature packed guitars of any of the import models from any company. The features on the SE guitars nowadays would have have been included on an ultra high end guitar in the late 90's. Other import guitars like the Sterling by music man are not up to that level of craftsmanship or playability yet. Thanks for the review. Entertaining as always

No. That's the short answer. I am an avid prs owner and lover but I feel they have lost the plot a little. Each time a new SE comes out with a higher price point, the core models go even higher and now are just flat out absurd. Almost 20 years I have been a PRS fan Bois but now I'm moving onto other brands since their prices are so high. I only buy Core and American guitars or Japanese. The SE's always feels very different from a core model. 1600 on this is 1600 I could save towards a better guitar. The SE biggest problem is resale. They just don't hold their value.

The nicer PRS SE guitars are starting to creep up in price. If you want one with a quilt top and ebony fretboard, you’re looking at $900-1000. Still great guitars but my SE 24 Custom was about $700 new. I don’t have an issue with overseas built guitars. I only had one built in the US. However, I refuse to buy a guitar made in China.

This is greed "plain and simple"!!! even if it plays and sounds great it's still budget built with budget woods and rushed through the line craftsmanship even if the craftsmanship is decent to good its not the same as paying for that something extra and as soon as people start paying craftsman prices for budget builds then all the budget builds will end up just under 2k and the already 5k crafted instruments will move up further to 7 and 8k i feel this is a shame on prs the budget builds are for players far and wide from beginners To touring guys that want a quality instrument that can take the rigors of tour life and any player that wants to step up to a crafted instrument gets to choose to as far as I'm concerned the price for a prs se is already at a price that is on the edge of breaking the bank for those they are targeted to

Feels very overpriced, and I own several PRS SE's. It's essentially a Custom 24 Semi Hollow with a Piezo. The Hollow Body II SE with Piezo is expensive (I bought one on sale for $1200), but it differentiates itself from other SE's by coming with hard shell case, lots of flame maple binding all around the guitar, ebony fretboard, and abalone inlays. This guitar has none of those upgrades.

Still laugh at the "import" comments. Do you really think built in the USA guitars are better at or near the same price point? They're not. Look at the people working in the Cor-tek factory and look at the people working in the Gibson factory. I can tell you which one is more focused on doing a good job. I have a EBMM Stingray that retails for over $2500. I have the same model Sterling by EBMM that retails for $900. Is there a difference? Yes. The nut is better and the tuners are a little better. But the fit, finish, fretwork, etc., is practically the same. So there is a difference, but there isn't $1600 worth of difference and 99% of the audience in the crowd can't tell the difference. Same goes for my G&L Custom Shop P-bass and my $500 Vintage P-bass. But hey, it's your money.
