Nice fish Bill, that gets me in the mood to get out this week. I've talked with John a few times and he has a good sense of humour. I think he'd be a great guide or fishing partner. Thanks for sharing.

You get a much better drift from upstream and perpendicular. Downstream presentations your indicator will drag, causing your flies to pull out of the fish's strike zone. This guide knows what's up.
@benjaminaxselholm6 жыл бұрын
Maybe so but I dont agree that the fish can see you less when upstream. Quite the opposite in my opinion. Fish see up and forward.
@shawnertel37025 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminaxselholm I thought the same thing too, but this way with the low clear water you aren't casting over the fish; you can use long downstream drifts to stay stealthy. Maybe that's sort of what he was alluding to? Just a thought!

Allways wanted to fish these runs. I've heard in the past couple years the runs of Georgian bay are large and wild steelhead. With nearby saugeen river getting 50,000 steelhead runs I can only imagine what the Georgian tribs get. Especially nottawasga river that is supose have the largest population.
@MichaelPhillips-jw4bj5 жыл бұрын
First let me say the g.b Tribs are great. You should come fish for the wild and fairly clean fish. I can" t emphasize enough how much better wild fish are.. "... but this 50 000 this number is of great debate. First it was only a estimation. Many guides and locals and out of towers felt it "massively irresponsible to publish".. this was a banner year and people thought it could be as much as 30 000.. that insane number 500000 turned everyones attention to southhampton and the geen. Lots of money and joiners to help the river but insane pressure on the river... anecdotally I fish the. gB tribs all the time. Hired many guides you ve seen on this show, and the "geen" (saugeen) that river has the biggest run in Ontario in most people's opinions. This river not only has a huge run but is also stocked by a private club on top of its wild fish.... I don't think people understand what 50 000 fish is a contender for biggest steelhead run in the world.. check other rivers even the skeena which feeds more then 10 other legendary rivers like kispiox,

I grew up on the tenth lane just down the street from thorn bury and had the beaver river in our backyard. Could I hire him as a guide as well or?

No doubt they dont even have a clue. It would be funny watch him hit a real salt fish here and watch is reel and mind explode
@hattrickster336 жыл бұрын
I agree. No disrespect to Bill or John but you can't call yourself the best steelheader if you're not fishing on the west coast. Actually you're not a steelheader at all until you've caught a SEA run fish. Great lakes "steelhead" are a joke. The logic of calling them a steelhead is flawed. Just because these fish are genetically related to steelhead on the west coast, it doesn't make them steelhead. If you take steelhead fry and put them in any big lake where they can't get to the ocean, they are no longer steelhead but rainbows. Just because you catch these rainbows while they are travelling upriver to spawn, it doesn't make you a steelheader.
