I cannot understand why this isn't being discussed anywhere else - at least significantly - in the same week that a Tory MP repeats similar far right nonsense on the very channel Marshall is funding and is (sort of) disowned by the party for it. A tendency I detect among respectable and conscientious journalists (such as those here), who belive in balanced reporting of verifiable (and verified) facts - as opposed to just spouting opinions based on what has come into their Twitter feed or similar - is that they too feel the need to grab attention by sensationalising or overdramatising. Right at the beginning here, there is a comment that Paul Marshall would have as much influence as Rupert Murdoch. It certainly grabbed my attention, but Murdoch has a media empire that spans 3 continents, and, in one, North America, almost certainly has already had a role in the rise of a populist extreme right. Owning The Telegraph and The Spectator, which have little sway outside the UK, is hardly comparable. However, I do agree that it is part of a wider swing towards populism and particularly a populism of the far right. In this respect, I disagree with one speaker who said that this phenomenon was "partly" linked to the rise of social media. As someone of an age to remember a world without any social media, I would stronly argue that it is 100% due to social media, which has revolutionized how we now do our politics (for the worse).
