What everyone conveniently sweeps under the rug is this: you can’t measure an employee on the same scale as a founder. An employee signs up for a job-agreed salary, fixed hours, and deliverables. A founder? They’re on a self-inflicted, high-risk-high-reward rollercoaster. If they’re clocking 200 hours a week, that’s a personal choice. No one’s holding a gun to their head. The health risks? Their problem. The monetary rewards if they hit unicorn status? All theirs too. Fair and square. But if you’re expecting employees to grind like a founder, you better back it up with founder-level perks. Equity? Massive rewards? A piece of that unicorn pie? Otherwise, you can’t have your cake, eat it too, and then demand employees bake you another one.

He won't and that's technically a modern slavery. "Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live" - Oscar Wilde

8 - 8 - 8 assumes only 8 hours work. However in many cities, there's travel time of around 2 hours to/from office, which goes out of 'personal' or 'rest' time. In a few like Mumbai, NCR and Bangalore this travel time can be as much as 4-4.5 hours. The fact also is today, there is significant 'mobile' time during the work hours, which adversely affects productivity If the employees are allowed to participate in the risks and rewards of the founders as co-owners, there will be a significant growth in productivity, without having to even discuss work hours. The key is to democratise employment and turn employees into co-owners and entrepreneurs. Keep fixed payment low and provide a significant opportunity to increase variable pay and wealth.

@lourdumary59154 күн бұрын
Narayan Muthy's reiteration about 70 hours work a week: Is it to reduce the number of workers/employees, thus to reduce the overall pay bill of the organidation evrey month, so that more money saved for the corporate bosses? What India needs is less number of working hours, engaging more unemployed, but qualified youth, so that overall unemployment problem is resolved to some extent, if not fully. Thus, more people will be able to work in India, feeding their families families in an honest and dignified manner. In the process, freebies from the power-mongering politicians can be refused and the people can elect politicians who are sincere to serve them. Pocketing of the wealth of the nation by a few greedy politicians and corporates, cheating the people for votes, can be put an end to by showing them the door, way out.

Narayan Murthy should think before making any comments. The West and US are far ahead of us despite working for less hours. The amount of work and productivity matters not the hours we spend in the office. Narayan Murthy is from old school where the only thing that mattered was amount of time spent in the office. We Indians will remain behind unless we change the way we think and work.

Indians need to work more in the 48 hours not more hours We just not working efficiently

After a very long time, a TNM story I can fully agree with. 😊 Please focus on real issues like inflation, crony capitalism, wealth inequality, etc. instead of identity issues that aggravate human insecurities.

Incredible narration and it's a lesson too to our capitalist entrepreneur, burdening workers with less payments and more hours of work never serve nation building, but enhance exploitation. Thanks Puja for such a unique presentation. ❤

Murthy says we need to work like post-war Germany or China’s 996(9 am to 9 pm 6 days week). But let’s be real-half of us can’t survive one extra hour past 5 p.m., let alone 70 hours a week. Germany rebuilt, we reboot Netflix.

Ekagarh Murthy at under 1 year earns 280 crores, does he work 1 minute? What is Murthy talking about? Why not tax incomes over say 12 crores a year at an extra 2%?

Working harder and longer is a personal choice. But our honourable PM wouldn't be an inspiration for me. Because the output quality counts.

@@turanamo Just completed 25 years in IT industry,😂😂😂 I have worked upto 75 hours week in my bachelor days. Nowadays , I seldom cross 55. When i mean mandatory, it means that your senior or superior allocate the work and you have to complete it. Now, when i hit 75 was because i was really interested in that work, and i was learning a lot. Also, sometimes it was just pleasure or delivering more than the seniors in the team. I sometimes put more than 12 hours on some days, but i compensate that on other days.

Let Narayana Murthy give 55% of his company share to his company employee then they will also work 90hours

Narayan Murthy the man who pays 3.5LPA and expects 75 hours work. Ask him to make same statement in UK or US. Maybe he'll shut his mouth at least then.
