@@beingsoumik I worked in Japan in a Japanese company a decade back. People stay in the office after scheduled hours pretending to work just to wait until seniors leave. Some family owned companies are so bad that this culture is extreme and people go into depression and commit suicide. Young Japanese people don't have time to make babies and start a family! Almost everyone agrees this culture is bad and it has negative affect on mental health and family life, but no one wants to change it. Success of Japan is not due to its long working hours, but due to *honest approach to work, and attention to detail of Japanese people* . I urge you to go to Japan and experience it first hand.

What everyone conveniently sweeps under the rug is this: you can’t measure an employee on the same scale as a founder. An employee signs up for a job-agreed salary, fixed hours, and deliverables. A founder? They’re on a self-inflicted, high-risk-high-reward rollercoaster. If they’re clocking 200 hours a week, that’s a personal choice. No one’s holding a gun to their head. The health risks? Their problem. The monetary rewards if they hit unicorn status? All theirs too. Fair and square. But if you’re expecting employees to grind like a founder, you better back it up with founder-level perks. Equity? Massive rewards? A piece of that unicorn pie? Otherwise, you can’t have your cake, eat it too, and then demand employees bake you another one.

This kind of toxic work culture has led to a massive brain drain in the country. What kind of nation building can you expect when you lose your best and brightest every year? You live one life people should have full right to enjoy life outside of work. I feel this country is being run down by a bunch of old out of touch people at every level, be it government or private establishments, can’t wait for most of these people to eventually run their course and hopefully some younger people will take things forward positively, wealth of India’s youth is wasted in the hands of the old.

As he mentioned in an interview, he may have worked for 61/2 days a week as he was building a company but telling his employees to do the same for the meagre salary he's paying is not adding up and if he still wants them to work for such long hours, will he share the profits of Infosys with his own colleagues for building a better nation? He won't and that's technically a modern slavery. "Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live" - Oscar Wilde

8 - 8 - 8 assumes only 8 hours work. However in many cities, there's travel time of around 2 hours to/from office, which goes out of 'personal' or 'rest' time. In a few like Mumbai, NCR and Bangalore this travel time can be as much as 4-4.5 hours. The fact also is today, there is significant 'mobile' time during the work hours, which adversely affects productivity If the employees are allowed to participate in the risks and rewards of the founders as co-owners, there will be a significant growth in productivity, without having to even discuss work hours. The key is to democratise employment and turn employees into co-owners and entrepreneurs. Keep fixed payment low and provide a significant opportunity to increase variable pay and wealth.

@lourdumary5915
@lourdumary5915 4 күн бұрын
Narayan Muthy's reiteration about 70 hours work a week: Is it to reduce the number of workers/employees, thus to reduce the overall pay bill of the organidation evrey month, so that more money saved for the corporate bosses? What India needs is less number of working hours, engaging more unemployed, but qualified youth, so that overall unemployment problem is resolved to some extent, if not fully. Thus, more people will be able to work in India, feeding their families families in an honest and dignified manner. In the process, freebies from the power-mongering politicians can be refused and the people can elect politicians who are sincere to serve them. Pocketing of the wealth of the nation by a few greedy politicians and corporates, cheating the people for votes, can be put an end to by showing them the door, way out.

Worked in a bank for thirty four years- except for four years, was in branches and we worked an average of about nine hours a day and five hours or more on saturdays. This does not include working from ten AM to three AM AND going back to work at ten AM for a few days during annual closing (pre-computer) I put this much work for my salary and from a loyalry to our Founder. Hypothetically, would NaMu have done it for his salary alone?

People are busy making Hindutva Nation successful.. No time for Nation building talked in the video.. divide and rule is working successfully again in India.. don’t know when India will again get its freedom from divide and Rule. No one is working towards making India strong from its roots. freedom fighters dream of free India, we have crushed it. Nowadays people are busy digging for their own grave.

8:47, Unfortunately we have a feudal culture in India where "workers" are seen as inferior and hence don't deserve any facilities that could make their lives comfortable cause they will cause the worker to be "distracted"... Hence absolutely no investment targeted at giving workers better tools or better working conditions ever happens... Eg: Pretty much every office or factory which has AC in the work spaces has only installed them to protect the equipments and not for employee/worker comfort...

Listen guys, many are talking about the low wages.. even if you get lakhs and lakhs of amount as salary for working more hours, you'll end up in spending all those money for your hospital bills in future and there is nothing called a family to look after you since you didn't spend valuable time with then... Indian labor law already has many loop holes in it.. now with a corporate friendly government anything can happen 💀

Tell him to talk to a psychiatrist first! He is turning India into a mentally exhausted country. Someone, please tell him not to give unsolicited advice-it's our life. If India really wants to progress, hire more employees instead of making one person work double shifts. We don’t need that kind of money.

In 86 if you just stare at an excel sheet for a Month(320 Hours) and edit it for an hour you can walk home with a decent salary, Not like today where every week there is a new release in Technology (security, cloud, patches, new features, distributed computing) not like in 86 where you have to save an excel sheet to C drive :-)

You are very correct Pooja mam. 70hours a week is too long. Work is important to reach greater heights in the corporate industry. But work life balance and health is very important. Honourable Narayana Murthy the iconic IT legend is certainly wrong in this regard. We are very hard working.

Narayan Murthy should think before making any comments. The West and US are far ahead of us despite working for less hours. The amount of work and productivity matters not the hours we spend in the office. Narayan Murthy is from old school where the only thing that mattered was amount of time spent in the office. We Indians will remain behind unless we change the way we think and work.

@@turanamo Just completed 25 years in IT industry,😂😂😂 I have worked upto 75 hours week in my bachelor days. Nowadays , I seldom cross 55. When i mean mandatory, it means that your senior or superior allocate the work and you have to complete it. Now, when i hit 75 was because i was really interested in that work, and i was learning a lot. Also, sometimes it was just pleasure or delivering more than the seniors in the team. I sometimes put more than 12 hours on some days, but i compensate that on other days.
