That was Diana Ross singing with Michael Jackson! This was recorded after the Grammy Awards for that year. This went on until the early hours of the following morning. Director, Quincy Jones, posted a sign at the door to the studio, everyone had to check their egos at the door. The song was written by Lionel Ritchie and Michael Jackson. It was for the support of Ethiopia.

You don’t know Bruce and you’ve never seen him live. Bruce was the biggest artist in the world in 1985. He has always been involved in charity work in a large way. He absolutely belonged in that position. Watching Bruce and the incredible E Street Band play is joyous. Watch the Born To Run video compilation that Brice made for his fans is amazing. If you watch that and still hate Bruce then you gave him a fair shot. If you want to hear the number one rock Sax solo played by the best rock sax player of all time - Clarence Clemmons then watch the video of Jungleland. My personal favorite Bruce song. I always mildly liked Bruce and then I saw him live and I was hooked. The most fun amazing 4 hours on your feet dancing and Bruce knows how to work a packed Stadium.

I'm not an avid fan of Bruce Springsteen but I do like some of his songs like "Born in the USA". I remember that 1985 was Bruce's year from record sales to popularity even more popular than Prince that year who decided not to participate maybe because he was feuding with Michael Jackson at the time. Bruce was probably one of the few people there who chose which lines he wanted to sing and where he wanted to stand.

Diana Ross is not a Jackson sister ( he had three.. Rebbie, Latoya, Janet and I think there was a half sister too), but she was in a big time girl group called "The Supremes" back in the day. And became a very big artist with her own separate body of work/songs too. She was also a very close friend of Michael Jackson's and the Godmother to his kids. This ensemble of hitmakers came together after a music award show that was hell earlier, that's why so many artists were able to attend.

I was 12 when the world was blessed with this masterpiece. At its time of release, to this day, I can name every single featured artist by their voice. I came by about 18% of that knowledge of my own accord, based on my listening chioces. The other 82% I learned from my parents and what I grew up listening to since literal birth. If the boy is lacking in knowledge, it isn't really his fault, Dad. 🤷‍♀️😜

As I see someone else already pointed out, the woman singing after Michael Jackson was Diana Ross (formerly of the Supremes); not a sister, but good friends (it is believed Michael's song "Dirty Diana" was named after her) and the story is that Diana "discovered" the Jackson 5ive, but that might just be a Motown promotional myth. Diana co-starred with Michael in the movie version of "The Wiz" (Diana was Dorothy and Michael was the Scarecrow). Janet Jackson was not able to be there that day, but sister LaToya and several of the brothers were there, standing in the front row, on the far right next to Bette Midler. If I'm not mistaken, I think there are only 3 Jackson sisters; the oldest is Rebbie (who had a minor solo hit in the 80s called "Centipede") but I don't believe she was there that day.

In case you’re wondering why Bruce Springsteen got that cameo, this was 1985 and the Boss was king. He actually finished his born in the USA tour in New York the night before and flew in for this. People my age a.k.a. 20s and 30s at the time loved him and this album was to make money for charity. I think it brought in 75 or 80 million in the first year. Although so many of these stars are people that I absolutely love and adore and are LEGENDS, he is one of the four top grossing stars in this group in 1985. All that aside, I personally think it was brilliance to put those two voices together because of the emotion and the contrast. He actually taped that the same night as everything else was taped. I think Stevie might have been brought back in, but there is video of Bruce doing all of that segment with other people from the choir still in the room.

Here on youtube you can find the documentary from when they recorded this. It shows how they did some of the backing vocals and planing before and some of the additional parts that was added later. This was inspired by the british artists that did Do they know it’s Christmas the year before. Bob Geldof was the one that started it and also is in this song. This was done before Live Aid that have been one of the largest concert they played at the same time both in England and USA and was shown in many countries live. Later there has been done other versions of this song by many different artists from all over the world.

Springsteen is a poet and he's literally the second best songwriter of all time right behind the one and only Bob Dylan but I guess poetry isn't for everyone to understand Jungleland, backstreets, thunder road, born to run, the river, the promised land, nebraska, the ghost of tom joad, the hitter, devils and dust, atlantic city, badlands, blood brothes, because the night, darkness on the edge of town, jack of all trades, land of hope and dreams, mansion on the hill, my hometown, my father's house, point blank, reason to believe, racing in the street, straight time, this hard land, Youngstown! And etc..... Those are poems, you could literally read the lyrics without listening to his songs and yet you would still enjoy their meanings cause that's how poetry works

I LOVE that you're teaching your son about all of this, new sub! :D - A fun fact, a sign reading "Check your ego at the door" was set outside of the recording studio. And they did :) - DISCLAIMER: That may not be the exact wording, i apologize, but I just woke up and am not up to hunting it down.

Why all the hate on Springsteen and Stevie? I think they sounded great together. Voices don’t have to be alike to sound good in a duet, sometimes very different voices compliment one another. I love Springsteen’ s voice, but I also like deep and gritty male voices. I also agree with your son, never cared for Lauper or thought she had a good voice. Sounds annoying to me.

I like Springsteen voice, but I can't say I am a fan of all of his songs even if they were chart toppers. Kinda like today's Beyonce. I think she has a decent voice, but I think a lot of her music is crap.

@@rickyconstancio7856 Good point, and I agree on both fronts. I think Beyonce's voice is definitely better than decent, but I do think a fair amount of her stuff is derivative or repetitive.

The dad in the video doesn’t understand why they have Springsteen on solo or even part of the group for that matter, but then with his music knowledge and wisdom, he thought Diana Ross was a Jackson and Cyndi Lauper was amazing…..LOL

The song that I really like and I think you would as well is End Of The Line by The Travelling Willburies. The best of the best are in the band. Sadly Roy Orbison passed away a few months before the video was released. The other band members honor him by having his guitar on a rocking chair and a picture on the shelf behind one of the singers.

THE LADY SINGING WITH MICHAEL JACKSON IS not A JACKSON. THAT IS DIANA ROSS OF THE SUPREMES. SHE IS OLD ENOUGH TO BE HIS MOTHER. HER GROUP WAS BIG IN THE 60's.

Diana Ross is 80 years old and is still selling out concerts worldwide. She may be the only performing still doing that from the sixties.
