It’s meant to mimic the style from the early sets (look at the woodwork/trim and doorway arches), but it’s bigger because the setup is different. In the original Eastland years, the school had multiple, smaller dorms/houses. Now, it seems like Eastland has a single dormitory for all the students.

For Lisa, it was simply a case of FOL maxing itself out in terms of audience appeal. It was time to move on. (And the writing and the backup cast were awful). Wow, for Mindy, a lot could have been done with her show. But, once again, the writing and the backup cast were mediocre. (I am referring to the pilot episodes for both). Just think, if Mindy's show had taken off, there conceivably could never have been a "Friends"! That theme would already have been taken!

I'm not saying they weren't but against last few seasons of Facts of Life they were quite good and at least made sense. Facts of Live was in "what can we do now" mode for quite a while. This was a misguided attempt to keep the show going. It didn't work the first time when they had a large cast of characters running in and out of every scene. Keeping the focus smaller is what made them successful. It was time to give them a real sendoff at this point.
