Season 5 answers Guide: - Never caught this until now but Richard was Locke's constant. - All the people that were on the ground "were inside the radius" just like Faraday said even if they were near the blown-up freighter but they were on the ground. The guys on the helicopter even if they were near Daniel when it happened were not on ground and therefore were not included in the radius so they didn't skip through time. More coming up the following episodes.

Constants usually aren't people. They're not supposed to be people, but Daniel and Desmond/Penny were exceptions because of how strong an impact they had on one another's lives and how long they'd known each other. Richard doesn't have that strong enough impact on Locke for Locke to think of Richard as his constant and to be able to use Richard to determine what time period he's in.

Locke has no idea what year he met Richard in after his encounter with Ethan, and Richard looks exactly the same, so Richard wouldn't have been able to act as a constant for Locke. (Plus Locke's mind isn't flashing through time independently of his body, so he doesn't need a constant.)

I love how so many things tie up in this season, as with the Nigerian plane's crash. It happened a few years earlier, but it also happened in a different place. It couldn't be in the Pacific Ocean, because that kind of plane departing from Nigeria doesn't have such a big range. So the island has been moving in time and in space (to a different ocean and then back to somewhere in the Pacific). And John did dream with that site a couple times because he had already been there when the crash happened (in John's future time but the island's past time). It's just a wonderful explanation!!

The answer is essentially course-correction. Faraday couldn't change time, so Desmond couldn't keep the memory, but once he got caught up to Faraday's present time, the memory could surface. It's strange that he only got the memory three years after getting off the island instead of 24 hours after getting off the island, but that allowed him to get to Faraday's mother at the appropriate time to complete the time travel loop.

Look, if you must categorize me as a "hater", I understand. It's a natural defensive mechanism. But I do appreciate that you take the time to engage. My objection to "your presence" is how you change the dynamic of what I like to see in reaction videos and reaction videos are among my favorite content to consume on this medium. And for whatever it's worth, it's not personal against you as a person. When people leave comments in a comment section that are similar to the nature of the "explanations" you feel compelled to bestow upon your reactors, I chime in there too. And I'm not alone in my sentiments. Such comments (i.e., comments based on hindsight) are often flagged by moderators when moderators are employed. Of course, the commenters who post them take offense at these actions arguing that they're not giving away major plot points. But they are providing information they themselves did not know during their real-time viewing of a particular episode (which should be the universal standard of what should and should not be shared). But these commenters don't enjoy the support you get because they are nondescript screen names/avatars in a comments section and not a "personality" on the channel proper, like you. So it's not that folks don't object to the type comments you add. It's that they instinctively rally around a "cult of personality" or their sense of kinship to a person they've been watching and enjoying on their phones or computers. To them, you can "do no wrong". As for the Marvin Candle issue, I wasn't objecting to the substance of the contribution. Obviously, Chang's pseudonyms are not spoilers. I brought it up because it was illustrative of how different you were from the other veteran viewers (including Nahid). They wouldn't have "shared" what you shared. And even in your response it was telling that the "context" you thought germane was something that was uttered BEFORE the words "Never mind. DON'T SAY ANYTHING." How is anything uttered before, "never mind, don't say anything" relevant? What's a 4-letter word for operatic solo? Never mind. Don't say anything. When a person answers a question AFTER being asked not say anything and then justifies it by saying, "but you literally asked me to tell you," that says something about him. What it doesn't say is that he's doing it for the other person. It says that he can't help but blurt out something because he knows the answer. It's almost as if no matter how well-intentioned you are, you just can't help it. If it wasn't obvious, I wouldn't have cited it as an example if Rana never interjected "Never mind. Don't say anything." Because the substance of what you shared was not egregious. But she did CHANGE HER MIND and asked you to keep mum. What a person said BEFORE she changed her mind should be moot. And here's the other thing. The dynamic changes when you're there, especially for Nikki. They'll turn to you and ask a question and look to your response (or your expression) for the answer. When you're not there, they'll try working it out themselves. And those are some of the more entertaining aspects of their reaction. I have no qualms about having a veteran viewer accompany a newbie viewer. What I object to is the contribution of someone's hindsight to the fresh perspective of a first-time viewer. I'll sometimes call it out when I see it. But I'll be more vocal when this becomes a consistent pattern. I will confess one thing. I didn't really notice it (or mind it) before your season 3 hiatus. In fact, I thought your presence necessary. It was necessary when it was just you and Nikki. And the dynamic then was Nikki threatening to Google answers unless you answered her spoiler questions. I wasn't a fan of that, and truth be told, if I wasn't down the Lost Reactions rabbit hole at that time, I'd likely have stopped watching. And when Rana signed on, your presence was necessary as a conduit of communication between the slab of ice that had, for whatever reason, formed between them. Then came your hiatus episodes. Suddenly, I was exposed to how entertaining those ladies were when left to their own devices. To date, their reaction to Glass Ballerina is one of my favorite reaction episodes of any reaction to any show on any channel. And there was a certain purity and authenticity to their reactions there that gave it a certain charm. It would've been different if they deferred to you or if their "authentic" reactions were subjected to your "artificial" contributions. And when you returned, that's when I saw the contrast. I realize that there are a lot of episodes in the can, and I don't expect things to change because of my commentary. But I will continue to post my objections when the spirit moves me. And they will continue to be long-winded. But that's because I'm not just "hating". I'm sharing the REASON for my objection out of respect. I won't simply say "Suraj is annoying!" Mine is always a critique of how content I consume could be more enjoyable to me. To the extent it seems personal, I apologize. I'll try to refrain from future jabs if I can and keep it limited to observations.

Potential Minor Spoiler for Season 6, but this deals mainly with the Time Travel. So, the only people unaffected by the Skips are the Others, but why is Juliet affected? Because she was marked. When the Others go through their initiation, they become "connected" to the Island in a way. When Juliet was branded in "Stranger in a Strange Land" she was essentially disconnected from the Island and therefore vulnerable to the Skips.
