It's not just that Ruby wanted to be like her Mom, it's that her father and sister always talked about Summer like she was absolutely faultless, and could do anything. She was raised on fairy tales where the heroine always saved the day. She's carried that in her young mind her whole life, and thinks that even doing the best anyone possibly could have expected from a 16 year old is still short of what Summer could have done.

Oh yeah, Damarin. The novels After the Fall and Before the Dawn goes into more detail about the schemes and machinations in Vacuo. The first novel focuses on team CFVY and the second on team SSSN, great books for fans familiar with the lore and newcomers to the RWBY universe. Probably should have left this on his reaction to chapter 10.

@@Axel_Kasai i actually love the RWBY reactions I’ve rewatched twice. So I can say this without context. Just because there is annoying part of a reaction doesn’t really ruin the entire experience. But one person being annoying, not paying attention, falling asleep, and asking stupid questions can make the experience worse. This doesn’t mean that I’ll stop watching just because of him but it is notable that he is the worst part of these reactions.

So what if the weapons belong to people who changed themselves and left their previous selves behind in the tree to eventually be used by someone else.

I don't think it's a matter of like .. There is a point of no return that someone might cross where their actions are irredeemable. The amount of psychological torture Neo put Ruby is that lead Ruby to drink the tea crosses a line.

Although Ruby and the others here don't know for sure if they saved the people of Atlas and Mantle, they do know that Cinder won. Cinder outsmarted and overpowered them, casting them into the void. Cinder killed Penny (for the second time), forcing Jaune to finish Penny off to prevent Cinder from getting the Winter Maiden powers this time. Having Winter Schnee get the powers and escape to Vacuo is ultimately what saved the people of Atlas and Mantle from the Grimm hordes, but the heroes in the Ever After don't know that. They only know that Cinder obtained both the Relics of Knowledge (again) and Creation. That's what's gotten Ruby so depressed. Cinder beat them, again.
