As a girl I was not allowed to split wood but I sure did stack and take wood inside to use. Love the smell of the wood and love a wood fire for heat. Sure miss those days, but at 78;years young kinda glad I do not have to work that hard anymore. Living on a dairy farm there was all kinds of work to do and we did it for sure. No snow to deal with so that was ok by me. That cup of coffee and one of Vonnie’s cherry pies will really be a treat once the work is done. So good to have friend, Jim , there with you. Good bless both of you and your fans,it’s. From deep southeast Mississippi.

most parents love it when their kids work hard , it's basically free labor. my parents tried to get away with using me for free labor , i fought hard and now hold title to the family homestead. so basically i'm saying i was compensated. i hope your mom and dad compensated you for all your hard work. some people try to tell me that my parents never owed me anything due to the fact they brought me into this world and raised me. i say it was their responsibility to raise me.

I've always found it more productive and safer to use the biggest junk on the bottom and split the other junks on top of it. The axe head hits the wood when the handle is horizontal rather than at an angle and you aren't bending down. I've burned wood in my wood furnace for around 35 years and split it all by hand up until a couple of years ago when I bought a splitter so I have plenty of experience with knarly junks! Always love spending time splitting wood on a nice frosty morning. Birch and aspen (aps as we call it) is usually pretty cooperative with a bit of frost in it. A few big junks of juniper (larch) full of knots is bound to slow you down...but they make a nice challenge! Another great episode!!!
@TheNorthwoodsman12 жыл бұрын
Back at my Illinois wood pile I used to have a 6 inch thick large round of really gnarly wood to put my rounds on if they could be moved easily. Much of the oak had to be split with wedges and maybe the last few whacks the splitting axe would work faster. Like you I have started using a splitter for the big jobs of a winter supply. Many scoffed when the really BAD pieces were set aside and cut in pieces with a 24 inch bar on my bigger chain saw.
