I feel very nostalgic of Theo's time at Arsenal. He actually had a great career but will always be underrated because of lack of biggest honours. Happy retirement to Theo Walcott and wish a great post football life for him. He gave so many iconic moments especially that goals against Newcastle and Chelsea where he was tackled and fell down but instead of staying down he stood, evaded pressure and scored the goal. Those goals defined you, Theo...

It's crazy when you live through a footballer's entire career, from the World Cup call-up in 2006, to retiring in 2023. It makes you feel bloody old, but you also witness the complete evolution of a player, positive or negative. Theo had some great moments, was electric at times and received praise from even the likes of Lionel Messi. He will feel he could and should have done better at times, like everyone in life, but he can look back at a solid career as a professional footballer. Well done and good luck in retirement!

The last Neville sentence is spot on. Whatever you may think a pro player is average or bad, keep in mind there is more distance between you and him, than there is between him and Messi. That's how bad we randoms are, and how hard it is to reach PL pro everyday level. First time hearing Walcott here, he's quit smart btw. And yes, great achievement Theo, well done

@@tiatanaka4926It’s a nothing burger. Well done for having a career. Guess what, doctors, teachers and scientists do too. Just because you’re not a professional footballer doesn’t mean that you can’t have an opinion on it. That’s just patronising arrogance. I played to semi-pro into my 30s but that doesn’t make me more qualified than someone who’s never kicked a ball in their life.

What a brilliant story teller. He will fit perfectly in to a media role if he wants it. He was unlucky in that Theo came along at a time when media and public expectation of England was at its peak. Then there were significant injuries throughout his career that limited his rise. Plus it also coincided with Arsenal's fall from our peak. We're sorry Theo! Nonetheless, he'll always be a legend at Arsenal and despite all of those challenges he's had an amazing career to be very proud of.

Basically he was a bit of a sick note. A cold would keep out for a month. Gutless ,under achieving, overated to be straight to the point. Inconsistent most of the time. Somehow scores 100 goals. He probably should have retired 4-5 years ago .
@imconfused1237

@@boxingstraighttalk6599 Exactly 👏 I don’t get why some want to pretend extremely average footballers were worldies? Walcott had no footballing brain; just ran to the goal line like a greyhound then … nothing. He’d either run it out of play, get bullied off the ball or hoof it into the side netting. In other words, an extremely predictable player which defenders easily worked out. I mean, do we consider Daniel James to be a worldie? 🤷‍♂️ And yet he’s the exact same type of player as Walcott - can run like Usain Bolt, but that’s it. No end product whatsoever. I’ve no doubt that Daniel James will also fluke 100 goals by the end of his career.

@@imconfused1237 I guess some people are capable of recognising nuance. Nobody would call him world class but he was a damn fine PL level footballer. Ask Barcelona who identified him as Arsenal’s main threat when they met a couple of occasions in the champions league. Ask Spurs or Liverpool’s defence who he regularly terrorised. Theo speaks so articulately and intelligently. He’s had a great career, it is blatantly obvious he still has sooo much to offer the game, as a coach, manager or pundit. I’m a saints fan, I’d love for the club to find a place for him in our coaching setup but from this interview media companies will be falling over themselves to sign him up. At Saints, the club have a mantra “The Southampton Way” it’s a way to sum up an approach to the game but more importantly an approach to life, how to hold yourself in situations, in life and in general. Theo optimises that mantra, a true gent. All the best Theo.

Really great to listen to Theo and get some more insight into his career. Considering the pressure and the spotlight that was on him at such a young age it's a testament to him and those that have supported and guided him that he's so level headed. He could have so easily been ruined by money and fame and he just comes across as a down to Earth, nice guy. Also must say, really like Gary's interviewing style, he's got a pretty good sense for knowing when to press on something and when to just sit back and let the subject talk.

@@daviel1005 His goal scoring stats disagree. He was a good striker, just not one that will win you the league. There's not many that can. That doesn't make them crap. Giroud in terms of numbers is very similar to Drogba, yet people say Drogba was world class. Agendas are funny and when it comes to Giroud there's a definite agenda. Also Giroud is France's top goalscorer ever
