Wonderfully researched and well done. I’d love to see which games ended up with mechanics developed for the cancelled game(s), beyond what is known (Pikmin/Galaxy). From concepts such as the Luigi’s Mansion diorama style, to things as simple as reused rooms, or a tested mechanic eventually becoming an item in Zelda, etc.

I think they still need to make a true sequel to mario 64. It doesn't need everything to be a sphere, or for mario to have a living hat that he can jump on, just pure mario 64 acrobatics with a bigger more filled out courtyard and castle and new paintings, and characters to interact with. The paintings can each take you anywhere imaginable, so working from that idea they could easily scratch that itch for a true mario 64 sequel for purists while still innovating cool new ideas within each individual painting.

In my opinion, the N64 should've been a Zip Disk based system if not a CD based one. So here's how I would've improved things from the hardware/media format perspective. 1) the Magnetic Zip Disks will be the official media of choice for the console.(The cartridge slot will remain, but to serve other purposes as I go down the list). 2) Increase the storage capacity of the Magnetic Zip Disks from 64MBytes to 256MBytes max. This amount of space will give developers and publishers just enough space to work with and pump out more games at a reasonable pace and time without having to deal with alot of crunch time delays in game development. Besdies, Magnetic Zip Disks were hardly even in use at the time as CDs had already replaced most Zip Disk based media at the start of the 5th generation. This wouldn't have hampered Nintendo at all financially in icreasing the storage space greatly; as the only reason Nintendo even stuck with 64MBytes on the Zip Disks from the get go was only to match the 64-bit logo with the console itself. Not because of cost restrainst affiliated with increasing the amount of space! Plus, bigger and better games from both 1st, 2nd, and 3rd parties can be a new reality in this timeline as developers won't have to worry about having to sacrifice too much just to get games up and running 3) SNES backwards compatibility. Here's where the cartridge slot comes in to play. Have an SNES adapter akin to that of the Super Gameboy for a price of $49.99. But allow retailers to have customers who already own an SNES to trade in their 16-bit console for the SNES converter for free; just like how Sega did when it came to the Power Base converter to play Master System games on the Genesis/Mega-Drive! The audience nd market for more 16 bit games is still there as the SNES was still thriving in the 5th generation. Imagine De-makes of 32/64 bit games like Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania: Symphoney of the Night, Klonoa, Pac-Man World, Banjo-Kazooie, Pokemon, Tomb Raider, Quest 64(16 bit edition), Gex 2 & 3, Dragon Warrior 7(now Dragon Quest 7), 40 Winks, Turok, etc. Grant no, these games might play the same way as their new bretherns on the market because of hardware limitations, but they didn't really need to. They just need to be unique enough to stand out from the crowd to entice other people to try them out! 4) Cancel the Virtual Boy and other projects associated with it. With more resources diverted away from those distractions, Nintendo can more members of their team to put more focus on making the N64 comes to together smoothly and more prioritize are put on making sure the N64 and the software being developed for it doesn't suffer further delays on it's launch! 5) Increase the nternal storage RAM from 4MBytes to 8MBytes. If Nintendo wants to have faster load times on the Zip Disk storage media, Nintendo must invest more RAM to boot so the load times aren't impeding on game development. I understand doing so would cause the price of their 64 bitmachine to increase long term, but that is a risk Nintendo must take if it hopes to have better long term performance sales wise with other competiters on the market. To further increase it even more, Nintendo can release the 4MGB RAM expansion pak just like in our own timeline to further game development sold seperately! 6) increase the cache storage from 4KBytes to 8KBytes. With this amount increased, the blurry textures that plagued most N64 games won't be an issue thanks to extra storage that wouldn't hinder the visuals! 7) If everything goes according to plan, launch the N64 in the mid or late Spring of 1996 for $299.95 with Mario 64 and others locked-and-loaded to go. With the Zip Disks being cheaper to manufacter and produce than cartridges(though not AS much CDs) gamers won't have to worry about having to spend $70 to $80(sometimes $90) on cartridges; compared to only paying $50 to $60 max on Zip Disk based software!

Most outstanding moment to hear story of Super Mario games that never made it threw. I remember very little about Super Mario 64 2, didn't think about looking it up and learn about it. Even of course it would like be most like the same as the first one. When I learn about Spaceworld, it show me something more. The Nintendo GameCube was announced. Watching Super Mario 128 demo is something to look how the graphics will enhance farther. I never thought about it as a game at first, thinking as Super Mario in 128 bit graphics. Thinking about what the next Super Mario game would look like. Watch the demo of Super Mario Sunshine looks like a game that doesn't have that much. Not sure what Nintendo had in mind, most like was revision about 2d Super Mario Bros resurface the sprite in 3d. Sunshine show more of a game classic in art style. Playing give excitement. Super Mario Galaxy wasn't sure it do that well, when I start playing it. It was unexpected experience. Start to love the game, go threw to complete 100%. When Nintendo DS show a demo of Super Mario, I was looking forward of playing it. Nintendo have giving a new way of upgrading the graphics from the previous console like Nintendo 64 and PlayStation with a new development knowing a object doesn't need more polygons and high resolution image to make the game to look better. It the artist can show it

I think Mario 128 might've just been the name of one demo in a collection of many different experiments. It would've been fun to have 128 different Marios on one screen, but there's no way it would be released as a finished title because it doesn't make any sense.
@TheObsessiveGamer3 жыл бұрын
well Mario 128 is the first tech demo we saw, but the experiments started after as I presented in the video including making the Spheres that became Super Mario Galaxy, but the 128 Mario's instead becoming Pikmin

It's too bad that OOT ended up being such a massive time sink for everyone at Nintendo. Held back so many projects that were competing for relevance at the time, almost all of which just completely got scrapped thanks to it, arguable including the 64DD as a whole since there's no way they wouldn't have worked harder to iron out the kinks of manufacturing if they'd have had a number of smaller titles ready for launch in say, 97 instead of going all in on zelda for it.

As pointed out in the video, Sunshine is the official sequel but Mario 64 2 isn't that game as Mario 64 2 was to featuring a co-op Luigi. Basically they shutdown that original sequel entirely.
