Bizantium is not original name of the eastern empire, this is the name of the village on which plase is situated Konstanipolj or Istambul, that name is given by phalchiphicator school of Vatican in 16. century, original name is Romeyan empire, Vatican couldn't alove to someone else to take that name, after the fall of Rome, so they tried to wipe it for good

There were a lot of Syrian bishops during this period as well. People forget, but the intellectual and demographic center of Christianity was Eastern Mediterranean till about the 9th century. Saint John of Damascus was the last one of the great Syrian Christian scholars. It was the loss of these lands to Islam, that caused Christianity to be seen as a Western religion.

All Byzantine Empires territories was Christian and changed because of Byzantine corruption and Islamic conquer . Unfortunately we forget how crucial was the Byzantine corruption and we blaim only the Islamic conquest , but we are wrong! The people of Anatolia changed MAINLY because they couldn't afford the Byzantine corruption.

Great podcast and great material on Saint Theodore of Tarsus! How about a similar podcast on Saint Frumentius who founded Christianity in Ethiopia in the 4th century! God bless! ☦

It's interesting that 200 years after the fall of the Western Roman Empire you still have some people who still moved a lot during his life (from Syria then to Byzantium then to Rome and then to England)

Normally I focus on the usual history about changes in political boundaries, the royal family trees, the rampaging battles and bloody invasions, court intrigue and betryal ... and how most people lived, what was it like? History is fuller with these details about the formative scholarship and the growth of these beliefs.

Tarsus was situated on the flat plain of Cilicia beneath the Taurus mountains and means 'flat' in Greek. (The tarsal bones in the flat of the foot take their name for the same reason) My direct descendant Theodore of Arsus was named after a town situated in a cleft between two mountains nearby - though scholars have remained baffled over what part of the human anatomy the town's locality may have resembled.

Regular trade between Britain and the Romans continued well beyond 410, at least until the 7th century, which is well attested to in archeological finds of Byzantine goods and coins, and vice versa.

Bishop Heahmund is a saint and martyr in the Russian Orthodox church too. He was 9th century A.D. bishop. Figure that one out (the Russians are directly descended from the Vikings Heahmund fought against).

Funny how no one sent from Rome actually wanted to go to England. Apparently even back then they knew England was just the worst place on earth.

I thought that the Chad you mentioned was our Bishop of Mercia, later Lichfield and Coventry. Kind of oscillated between for a long time then we lost out to Worcester, but then we got our own diocese back in 1918. Didn't know about Ted of Tarsus though.

I love Professor Early podcasts. Honestly... But some of the comments he does are just surprising. In 10:39 he states that English Church was the Key position in, I presume, Christian world. By the stretch of any scholars imagination, who knows well other churches at the time - it is not true. Unfortunately, even though it was somewhat important to spread Christianity, the English church was still on the outskirts. Henceforth none wanted to go there. Even for such a lucrative post as Archbishop. You can only imagine the anxiousness of Pope who has to send 66 year old man. Most probably thinking - he will not be happy on the post for long. Thanks be to God Theodore did. Nevertheless, going back to the importance of your remark, it was thanks to the work of Bede and Lindisfarne Islands monks that English Church started to be the Key for Rome but this would happen 50-100 years later. I know that for Medieval historian it is not a lot later but in reality it was a lot. And real fruits of those Christians among pagans had to show up to be visible and respected in Rome. Saxons were not converted yet that much so, just like all the big plans of having who knows how many bishoprics was a laughing stock back then and it failed, we should not create false picture for the sake of making a history more fascinating and appealing to young generations... interesting comment. possibly the history has already been distorted. certainly a lot of it doesn't make much sence.. unless it was written by the victors.. i'd say 66 is more likely CODE, rather than his actual age. Have you looked into Arius Calpurnius.. "Piso" means "flat" too. lot's of tricks played on everyone over the last 10 or 20 centuries.. need to set the record straight.
