one of the verses you were stuck at was masterclass, in the 2nd verse Eminem is reflecting on his role as a prominent rapper and the influence he has on young listeners. He acknowledges that he is not a politician, but he recognizes the power he holds to connect with and impact the younger generation. When Eminem says, "They call me a menace and if the shoe fits, I'll wear it," he is referring to the criticism and controversy he has faced throughout his career. He is willing to accept the label of being a troublemaker or controversial figure if it accurately describes his impact. However, he also suggests that if the shoe doesn't fit, meaning if the criticism is unjust or exaggerated, then people should accept the truth he presents in his music rather than ignoring or dismissing it. He challenges the listeners to face the reality he presents, even if it may be uncomfortable or goes against prevailing opinions. The following lines where Eminem asks, "Now who's the king of these rude, ludicrous, lucrative lyrics? Who could inherit the title, put the youth in hysterics?" show his confidence in his lyrical abilities and the impact he has on the younger generation. He uses his music as a platform to share his views and experiences, aiming to provoke thought and stir emotions. However, Eminem acknowledges that there is a significant interference or opposition trying to silence or discourage people from listening to his music. The last line, "they're saying you shouldn't hear it," implies that there are forces attempting to censor or discourage the audience from engaging with his content.

In the song, both rappers address their critics directly. Eminem's verses touch on his often controversial lyrical content and its impact on his listeners, arguing that parents and critics should be more concerned with their own roles rather than blaming him for society's problems. Jay-Z's verses, on the other hand, tackle the critique that he glorifies a lifestyle of crime. He argues that his lyrics simply reflect the harsh realities of the environment where he grew up, and he's just a product of that environment.

I think it’s great to see those two on the same track. I’m from Europe, so I listened back then as a 12 year old to rap pretty purely… didn’t understand most of anything about it at first, that came later… but Eminem was my introduction to rap… it dripped from there and I’ve enjoyed a lot of Jay-Z music as well, so I’m just happy with seeing these two together.

I give this to em for a few reasons. First its his song, he made it with royce and gave it to jay and took royce off it, Second his flow just flows better. Content wise they both speak their shit and honestly i would say they are pretty much equal in this song. Like i said though those few points above are why i give it to em. You guys should check out em and royces version of this, i honestly prefer it to the one that got released but that might just be me.

Em original wrote this song (I think with Royce da 5’9), and Jay heard it, liked it, and obvi wanted to do a different version for his album. In my opinion this is why it feels like Em killed him on his own track, Em already killed it before Jay decided he wanted to add it to his album.

Eminem ate Jay alive on this track. While Jay is undoubtedly great, Eminem is a lyrical beast. I am unsure why Jay released this track, but I must credit him for being brave. As of 2023, Jay-Z has sold 140 million records worldwide, while Eminem has sold over 500 million. It is simply an astronomical difference, and I am tired of this debate. Though Eminem may not be played in clubs often, let's not forget about "Smack That," which probably got played more than most hip-hop artists combined. People and artists only say this because there is nothing else to say! Eminem has sold 227 million records in America alone, an 87 million difference just in America. For any other artist, this alone would give them an overwhelming win. It would be embarrassing if we were to compare their worldwide sales. While I am not a stan, this is just a joke at this point.
