As a kid who grew up on Em. If you werebt there, you wouldn't understand that when he says "feel the tension soon as someone mentions me" that was real. He was freaking everybody out and you loved it or you were totally disgusted by him and he was so influential, parents were mortified their kids loved him so much.

100%. I was a Christian teenager who didn't listen to him, but knew of him and 8 Mile and Lose Yourself and actually a lot of his songs without knowing it. There was all this stuff about banning him/censoring him and Congress got involved and while I wouldnt listen to his music cuz of swears and content, we knew it was important to not let the Government decide what could and could not be allowed artistically. I believe it was around that time that the warning for explicit language and warn parents labels would be put on album covers. Course, that only made teens want it more. I do appreciate it now and the E label for songs on Pandora so I know what not to play for my kiddo. Anyway, once I was a grown up with my own kid I started listening to Em and enjoy much of his music and respect him for all he's done. Oh, the other things was Em did not cave to the pressure and negative press (and there was lots), he would double down and write things about ppl in his next song (thats why Dick Cheney is mentioned in this one.) I respect him for staying true to his beliefs.

It´s so cute to see you guys react to Eminem :) I´m a 37 years old white woman, and Eminem is still always on my playlist to this day. He is magnificent. He´s got so many songs in his early albums that are not so know where besides showing his fantastic lyrical skills, are truly really deep, such as "Rock Bottom". Worth checking are the albums with D12. Strangely enough, my favorite song from him is "Deja Vu", so complex, personal and deep. You are in for a treat when it comes to Em! Btw, english is not my first language, and I always say that thanks to Eminem my english is as good as it is now :D

@@MsDawnKeyballs And a lot of it was prompted by Lynne Cheney testifying in congress that he wanted to rape and murder women. That's the whole reason she got the big diss in 2002. Ten years earlier and it was Tipper Gore doing the same stunt "for the children" with different music groups (including Anthrax). But in the moment when Eminem hit the scene, it was Lynne Cheney trying to dunk on him in Congress by testifying that he was obscene. THAT, combined with her husband's known war-mongering history, is what lead to the diss of both of them in the song/video. Dick Cheney had a history of heart attacks, so that's where the whole cables and battery thing came in.

Definitely look up the documentary what the black community thinks about Elvis Presley. He grew up in the ghetto and was completely inspired by Gospel and black music. When he sang other peoples songs he did it because they wouldn’t get heard. It blew up the original artist more by him singing their songs which was his plan to integrate all music. Also his main back up singers were black women. If they were turned away from a venue he refused to play. He did not care. If the venue created a fuss and then allowed him he would put his back up singers as front and center.

@@kenyonsgirl415 I did reply before but I can’t see it now. It’s very unlikely but it isn’t impossible. You can get pregnant on your period. Day 1 of your period is day 1 of your cycle and as each day passes, you are more likely to conceive. It also doesn’t have to be all over the place as you put it, (obviously most people have a 28-30 day cycle but some people have a longer or shorter cycle that still runs like clockwork) it’s more likely to happen when you’re on certain methods of birth control, other hormonal changes can have an affect as well including high stress or even an irregular sleep schedule. You’d be surprised how many times patients have said they couldn’t be pregnant because the only time they didn’t use protection was on their period.

i'm 28. Time flies. If you're below a certain age, it's hard to understand how huge Eminem was in the early to mid 2000s. The music industry has changed so much, back at the time this came out, people still bought CDs, music videos were huge, when someone made it big in 2002 they made it BIG. The average music consumer today has so many options because of streaming and the internet but back then, record labels were the gatekeepers of the music people listened to, there wasn't as much music available, and you usually had to physically buy the CD, but the quality of the music that was available was way better than the average album that gets released today. No rapper has come close to Eminem's popularity from when he was in his prime, it's impossible to get that big with the way the music industry is structured now.

Eminem nearly did 1.8 million first week with MMLP and that was only in the US. I'm from Australia and he was absolutely the biggest thing ever over here and holds multiple records still to this day for album sales. The Eminem Show was monstrous when Without Me came on the radio as th lead single and then Cleanin Out My Closet and the album dropped and Business was released as a single along with superman and sing for the moment. The combination of mmlp rolling into the 8 mile soundtrack and movie release same year as the eminem show eminem was legitimately as big as the Beatles.

Yup. His management wanted to "sanitize" black music for the masses, but Elvis loved southern gospel, spirituals, etc. Hard now to understand how progressive and influential those DJs and studios like Muscle Shoals were in bringing black artists to white audiences. Since Motown, Soul Train, etc., if a white artist wanted to be taken seriously in soul or R&B, they had to be insanely talented. Eminem is a modern example.

So many rappers are hating on Eminem and say he isn't the GOAT. But has any rapper ever done the shit Eminem did? Like the Slim Shady alter ego and stuff? What he did was different and a risky style.... It's totally different then most rap music. And it worked out perfectly for him!😂 He has more fans than most rappers can even dream of! Eminem is in a league of his own! I grew up with listening to so many rappers. 50cent, Tupac,The Notorious B.I.G, The Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg and many more big names. And then you have Eminem!!! The only one I still listen to a lot. (mostly his old music) Not because he is white dude.... But because his style and flow is totally different and so unique. He can do everything. Sending a message, fast, sad, mad, serious and totally crazy shit when he used his Slim Shady alter ego! And don't forget what happens if you diss Eminem and/or talk about his daughter!!!😂😂😂 Killshot hit MGK so hard he got send to Barbie land and turned into a pink dressed Barbie doing punk music!!😂 And ever seen any rapper try anything close to the Slim Shady style and other stuff Eminem did? Nope!!!😂 There is only one who can pull it off and it was so damn original!😂 Imo he is the GOAT... but I have to say... I like the old Eminem more than what he makes now. But I do understand... he is all grown up now and so is his music style. But damn.. I wish he would make just one more Slim Shady track or even a complete Slim Shady album!😂 I remember how my mom hated his music and took away my Eminem cd's... but in vain.... Because the next day I went to a friends house and he made copies of his Eminem cd's for me!! And after taking them away 4 times she gave up and just let me listen to Eminem!😂 But it's sad she threw away my original Eminem cd's and all I have now are the copies that friend made for me 20 years ago😅

LOVE that you were catching the bars that most people miss because they are either focusing too much on the visuals, or laughing too much at the visuals. One thing that has to be taken into account is the humor of Em's old videos. They were made funny so that they would get airplay on M-TV, that would have normally NOT played his videos due to lyrics. But the "gimmick" of "funny videos" worked, and Em became a STEADY feature on M-TV at the time. So much so, that when he says stuff like "M-TV would be so empty, without me" it is actually true as their ratings would take a noticeable drop if they stopped showing his videos.

@JenMc I agree with you 100. I’ve loved Eminem’s music since day one and was hooked instantly. Eminem is the Goat and I don’t think we will hear another artist come close to Eminem with his lyricist, word play, bars, rhyme schemes, story telling, etc…. I love his brutal honesty and not afraid to go after celebs whether it’s a pop star or politician. He says what’s on his mind. I respect his love for Hailie and would destroy anyone that says anything about her, such as MGK or how he references her in his songs, like When I’m Gone and Mockingbird. I was out there when guys were running cables setting up technique turntables in the park with crates of records listening to guys battle. As I got older I stopped paying attention and basically sort of outgrew rap and what's out today is just not something I have an interest in.. Eminem was after my time but I remember when he hit the scene and hearing some of the songs and how clever he was and in my opinion has somebody who grew up listening to grandmaster flash Eric b and rakim, etc and even singing with my own eyes I think Eminem is lyricly the best rapper in my view. He speaks literal poetry to where you actually have to go back and look at the words and marvel at how he worked it all in together. It's genius. I think she is the best, lyrically.

If a rapper doesn't write their own lyrics then they literally have no talent whatsoever. If they were singers not writing their own stuff, that's different bc singing itself is a talent. But if you're rapping someone else's lyrics then that's like lipsinging someone's song because raping is basically just talking poetry to a beat. Anyone can do that. The lyrics are the talent. If the rapper ain't writing their own stuff then they're trash. Point blank, period.

Because the artist "Prince" couldn't legally do anything about it he changed his name to the symbol for love as a slap in the face to the studio and gained the freedom to do what he wanted. Genius!

His song Contraversy could have been the backbone here.

The only song i know where if i try to think of the lyrics i screw it up, but if i just let go and start singing i can nail it every time. All 4 of my kids think im crazy when im head banging to it on the way to drop them off at school. But... they dig it too...

I love how Eminem is so serious but puts out crazy funny vids. There are very few that can rap at his level.

Hands down the baddest rapper that’s ever been. He took everything he heard from the masters like Rakim etc… and took it up 10 notches. His rhythmic flow is unlike anyone out there. I’m 53 years old and remember buying this CD the week it came out. I played it over and over again and couldn’t believe the talent I was hearing.

I still find it amazing that not many people understand what he's saying here
