6:16 thank you good sir 😂 Story Time: talking about people getting time despite not being in the streets, I caught a robbery charge in Arkansas in 2010 and my cousin, who I'd been close with for YEARS and who I had bonded out on several ocassions for DUIs decided my situation was funny somehow. He didn't come see me, didnt bother sending me letters or so much as a dollar on my books. Which would be fine, except this asshole thought it would be funny to have his mom tell me "not to drop the soap". Real stand up guy. Fast forward to 2017, I get paroled and deported to El Salvador. Despite never joining a gang, I got my respect in my unit, mainly by being honest and straight forward in my dealings with everyone. About two weeks after I touch down in El Salvador, I get a call out of nowhere from my aunt telling me JoJo just caught 2 bodies in a drunk driving accident. Apparently he ran a red light and t boned a couple on a motorcycle, killing the woman instantly and the man dying a few days later in the hospital. My aunt knew he would probably end up at the same unit I had been in, and she knew I still had contact with some dudes in there. So she basically tells me to please put in a good word for him, what kind of advice can I give him to make his time go smoother? I'm sure you know wh my answer was. "well...tell him I said don't drop the soap" TL:DR My cousin thought my robbery conviction was hilarious, until he ended up getting even more time than I did for a double DUI manslaughter

I liked this movie...I caught it pretty early on. What I liked most about it wasthat it showed how the injustice system's "give a f*ck" stops at sentencing and leaves EVERYONE (White, Black, Chicano, etc.) to the mercy of prison politics. Once you're in the slam, life as you know it will never be the same. I did 4 months in Maricopa Co. (tent city) and 3 months in Pinal Co. in AZ. After those two "whoopsies" in my life (for dumb a*s machismo BS) I knew I never wanted to see anything more. I got lucky that back in the Clinton years I was given the "join or go to jail" option when things got serious. I agree with you, Carnal, the scenes with Money's vieja and his hijo are pretty heart wrenching...he didn't want them exposed to the life so he kept it from them by taking himself away from them too...pretty heavy sh*t. Keep up the good work! Hey te watcho.
@burymeinjhenny918 Жыл бұрын
What branch did you end up serving in?
@salvadorromero9712 Жыл бұрын
I am surprised "join or go to jail" was still a thing that late. My impression was always that by the early to mid 1980s the "service is a privilege for the elite caliber of man who can do this" philosophy of the mature all-volunteer force was nicely falling into place. Think the randomized testing (and DWI discharges, etc.) of a genuine zero-tolerance drug regime, long list of disqualifiers at MEPS, etc. That they would have been proud to have saved lots of wild-hearted boys from the streets but were no longer in the business of rehabilitating actual done-deal fuckups. (As they might view them.) And so forth. Of course it's never going to be in practice what it is on paper. But I always got the feeling that that period, between 1983 and 2001, was pretty much the all-time peak of the military's selectivity.
@metalhead9315 Жыл бұрын
@@salvadorromero9712 You're right, it wasn't openly offered or widely available in recruiting in 1994. It was only brought up after the Sheriff and a police officer that had busted me talked with the DA. They did some digging into my school records, talked to some of my old teachers and determined I wasn't always a rotten apple and deserved a second chance. The entire process took over a year and included correspondance from then-Governor Fife Symington and required a lot of work on my part. (I had to get my GED and aquire so many college credits as well as manhours working a legitmate job while having zero contact with any of my old friends or any encounters with law enforcement.) Believe me, I know how lucky I was and I've never looked back.

Brutal movie, about how anyone can become a completely different person than they were and find the savagery within them under circumstances that breed and require you to summon it to survive. With a haunting soundtrack. Highly underrated. Nobody's a gangster, until you are. Because nothing else is left for you. You know the man he once was is gone forever when he reflexively goes for the Nortēno in the SHU. Because his gang's rules require this, and he's Money now, not Jacob.

Although theres some silly shit that happens, this is a fairly accurate movie. I was surprised the main character actually went to MAX let alone a different tier. Usually in these movies shit just pops off and nobody gets sent to the SHU lol. Also a lot of tue characters look the part instead of like a bunch of theatre fruit loops. 8/10 shower chanclas. Great movie. The greatest inaccuracy is him not being laced up the moment he hit the yard and the fact that a black dude stepped to him like that. His people would have taught him the rules before any drama started.

This was my favorite movie of 2017. Ive watched it Numerous times, and still enjoy putting it on from time to time. There are definitely some flaws in it, such as… **SPOILER ALERT** for example, When the protagonist(Money) gets in his first fight, after entering the prison yard… That encounter couldn’t have ever played out like that in such a high-security Penitentiary. Where the highly-segregated GP(General Population) within the California penal system, violently discourages any open & visible race-mixing, co-mingling, co-operation, or Co-habitation of ANY Kind!! Which includes 1-on-1 fades…

This is one of my favorite movies, I have never been to prison myself but I have family members who are genuinely good people who have made mistakes that landed them there. It's an incredibly realistic portrayal of how quickly prison life can make you a worse person rather than rehabilitating you.
