Cleaning up more of the 140 year old farm, and investigating a mysterious brick patio discovered hidden under wisteria...

So Brandon aka Adventure Archaeology and I discovered this hidden brick patio out here on the old Byrd farm. It’s been hidden for a long time. Let me know why you think it was there?!?! PS - I was going to use a shovel to uncover the patio but quickly discovered that was far too much work. So our good friend Daniel has a tractor with a bucket, so expect a future video of uncovering the patio with the tractor and bucket! Holy Moses, Robert! You worked hard and Did get a lot done today!👍 I'm kind of glad that 'snake' fell apart.😬 🙃 I sure wish we had a time machine to stand in that place 100 years ago.🙂💜

I love watching this place being uncovered/coming back to life! Do you think the brick area could have been a green house at one time maybe? 🤔just a thought! Can’t wait to see more unearthed! Is that your dad helping you? Just curious! Keep up the good work
@ptaylor49233 жыл бұрын
? Unfortunately, I think a tractor will destroy the brick. Too bad the dirt didn't stay on the signs until you slid the sign all the way off. It was protecting the brick and for a minute there you had a whole section cleared.

I think that brick footing was maybe for a small store, just a little place, somewhere where the homeowners used to make a little extra cash by selling cold drinks or fruit etc. Depends on the location of course, and sometimes the kitchen or laundry area was built away from the house for fear of fire.
@redpepper59843 жыл бұрын
Yes! My thought too! Local grown fruits. It is a farm after all

It looks like a newspaper stand to me. We had stands simular to those in convenience stores.

I agree, but I'm an old Broad when it was stacks and stacks of newspapers people would stop and buy on their way to work... not a computer in sight... 🤔🙄 actually not even a computer on the horizon back then.

@ramonaalvarez75593 жыл бұрын
I think so too. Coke cases stacked esp glass bottles would have crushed that rack. Plus a while back .. coke cases were metal & wood .. I think they held 24 cokes. The cases were usually stacked on top of each other .. not on a shelf or rack.

That metal rack reminds me of an old Colonial Bread display. Used to see those in little Mom and Pop stores in the rural areas. The sign could be from one of those also. Mandy Smith had a good guess. Could have been a greenhouse. With the signs and that...they possibly had a produce stand. Or, used to be truck businesses here in Ky when I was little in the 50's and before. There was an older man with a small farm that loaded veggies in his old truck, and came through our neighborhood. He'd yell out his window,green beans,cucumbers,maters,corn...if we wanted anything me and Mom would go stand at the end of our driveway and buy off the tailgate. I thought that was great. Tastee Freeze had a beautiful ice cream truck ,too. Snow cones were a favorite. You did good today. Great exploring with you! Love from soggy ole Ky...we know bout that groundwater. It's beautiful today 53,sunny and it's just past noon. Getting some drying.

@@scottnyc6572 Yes..believe it or not. Apparently its called "ophidiophobia"...I blame my mom. I wasn't afraid before the age of three. I found a six foot long black snake in the yard. Dragged my mom out of the home (it was a trailer not a house) she still had her slip on. She freaked out and I wasn't allowed out for the rest of the day. Ever since then it's difficult to deal with them (I have gotten better) The last snake encounter was recently, in real life, a baby rattle snake slithering across my floor, fortunately I'd had some margartitas to calm my nerves and oddly a 3'-0" long crowbar was handy.

I'm not stupid. I know that. However, I have a close to phobic fear of all snakes, and as far as I'm concerned, they are ALL rattleheaded copper moccasins, and I don't intend to get close enough to see if they have pits on their cheeks or slitted or round pupils in their eyes. Also, I intended my response to be jocular, not a serious statement about the identity of a particular snake.

Robert you can buy some stuff that you paint on what you have cut and you don't want it to grow back. My Dad used to get it at a Feed & Seed Store. Whatever you paint it on like a tree stump, it keeps it from growing back, next time I go to my Mom's house I will look in Dad's building's and see if I can find the name of the stuff for you. Might be a good way to get rid of that wisteria.
