Thanks for the coverage of these classic Opens. Its great to watch as I used to watch these with my dad. The voices of Peter Allis, Alex Hay and Dave Marr bring back a lot of memories of those times.

Thank you so much. Can’t wait to watch this again. One of the greatest final rounds ever. Sir Nick Faldo swing was just perfection that week and the final four holes were just incredible. His second round 64 was one of the classic Open Championship rounds.

That was Faldo's hardest work ever, a total grind that last round. Nothing went disastrously, but nothing seemed to really go nicely either - 1st tee shot; straight into a fairway trap, it seemed to set a grinding tone. All respect for hanging in there. Cook's 5-5 finish obviously helped. Strange things, luck, fate

Golf was so much better then. Commentary was better, camera work. Just was more raw and you felt like you were there.

Totally agree! & no irritating adverts. Just decent coverage.

True about adverts. But the camera work in the states is on a different planet. Then and now.

I was 10 years old when this went down at Muirfield and utterly enamoured with everything Nick Faldo. I studied his swing religiously and copied it to the finest detail from a VHS he did with Leadbetter at Valderama (it's also here to be seen - 10 year old me would have LOVED golf on KZbin lol). By the time i was 18 i was playing off a 3 handicap. Then life happened and playing golf fell away. Still love the game though and now play it in a different format: disc golf. If you havn't tried it, you should. ;)

This is so awesome to see this again. Thank you! BTW it would be hand jobs for everyone if the 1991 edition was out. Seriously. I luv u guys.

Players back then didn't get sissy fits and break their clubs when they made a bad shot. These were legends. Thanks for the coverage.
@andrewrobinson8305 Жыл бұрын
Yes they did. I’m 46 and recall plenty of tantrums from players in “the-good-old-days”. Don’t you remember Crenshaw breaking his putter at the ‘87 Ryder Cup? Fulton Allem broke his putter over his knee at the ‘91 Open. “Oozing charm from every pore, he hurled his putter to the floor” said Peter Alliss as he watched it.

1989 Open, most dramatic final round in history,everyone wants to see it next..Greg Norman birdie blitz 64 and greatest play-off

Looking at the full round, Faldo seems to be struggling with his alignment all day (until he sorts it out in the last 4 holes). Lots of shots pulled to the left (starting with the drive on the first) which seems to be where he is aiming. I think he mentioned this somewhere in a retrospective on this day.

Fun fact... this is/was the last Open/British Open ever won with woods... actually made out of wood:-)
@karlosfandango66372 жыл бұрын
I still have my Mizuno wooden drivers.
@andrewrobinson8305 Жыл бұрын
You’re right. Justin Leonard was using a wooden driver up until mid-1997, and switched to metal just a few weeks before winning at Troon.

Great drama. Nick Faldo digging deep for the win at Muirfield. Knowledgeable Scottish crowd getting behind Englishman Nick, "helping" him over the line This was recognised at the time by Nick and whisky was delivered to every club in Scotland with his (and a sponsors) compliments. Before times of " you're the man" and "light the candle" and other BS.
