I just want to thank you Maureen for all your opinions. Your advise is so practical. Even though you have a quilt shop, I love that you encourage us not to waste fabric and to use up what we have. I love your videos. You give me a sense of freedom to do things that make sense to me.

I’m still laughing over the look on Maureen‘s face when she tried to say “… Rather than relying on a Lego stuck down with gum.“ The look on her face was her opinion. Love these videos keep them coming. We learn so much.

Yes- Even if you don’t have a quarter inch foot, some machines have a stitch selection which moves the needle and sets the stitch length (2.0) for piecing. Then the edge of the regular foot is the guide. I know Babylock’s and Brothers have this.

Thanks for the binding tip! Also, I handle my scrap generation as you do. 1. I plan the fabric purchase so I have what I need and 2. I keep making blocks and use them for pillows or table toppers. BUT recently I started 2 sampler SAL/BOM quilts - and I'm generating a TON of scraps! Ugh. I'll be making project bags and whatnots 'till they come out of my ears! 😅

Love the binding tip you shared. In addition, I stop sewing short of the corner and fold binding strip up and to the right (just like normal) and Finger Crease the fold edge - replace binding and continue sewing towards the corner stopping at the visible crease you made where it intersects your sewing line. Perfect placement every time no matter what your chosen seam allowance is. Happy sewing. Love your Channel!

I too enjoy machine embroidery applique projects and have been using my Scan n Cut for years - I enjoy it so much that I recently upgraded to the Scan n Cut that can link to the Brother Luminaire 2. I've never understood my friends that have scan n cuts that still are hand trimming their applique. So sweet of you to give Becky of Power Tools with Thread a shout out - she has some great videos and her teaching method is great as well. Thank you for your video! Happy sewing!

I agree with Carols way to piece the small yellow bars as one piece. But to address doing the bottom row, instead of piecing the way the directions say, I’d just leave off that row of the pattern, top and bottom. Avoids having to piece it two ways. The partial blocks don’t need to have that yellow piece.

This weekend, I sorted through stacks of fabrics in my closet. In sorting, I realized that I have a LOT of left over backing fabrics. My goal for the rest of this year, is to use those fabrics for the rest of my Secret Santa gifts. I know I'll be using some for my Mother-In-Law's Christmas present. I'm going to make her a Quilted Hug shawl with fabrics left over from a quilt that I made for her 4 years ago. Whoo hoo! All I'll have to purchase for that is 2 yards of fleece and they're on sale!

Great episode today! Thanks for the binding tip. I think previously I actually unintentionally corrected away from doing that because I wasn’t being precise, and my last two bindings were slightly off. The chewing gum “tip” is gross, but using some tacky wall putty or something to stick a lego or other guide in place when you need a nonstandard measurement might be worth a try? IDK. Tape is a pain to get precisely placed, and some of the longer flat lego bricks might give a better ledge. The removable putty might be easier to place and remove cleanly. Bonus, no gross mouth germs! 😂 I appreciate the two-way ongoing “conversation” across your episodes as you share the tips, tricks, corrections, and alternatives others post.

FLUTTER I like all your suggestions on different subjects. I've subscribed to your channel long ago and used them. One thing I still have a lot of trouble with is attaching the two ends of binding to a quilt sandwich, I've tried multiple times with different techniques, I get so frustrated so I end up just sewing a straight seam to put them together. I live your videos. Have a wonderful day.

I am trying that tip for binding on my next project! I bet it gives me just enough extra fabric for better corners. I feel like the walking foot that came with my machine should be a good foot. I was having tons of problems with it and thought it was me or the machine. I finally sprung for the $160 dollar walking foot from Brother and will probably never take it off my machine. I just love that thing. Proper tool for the job.

The Lego tip was funny, I'm sure the tipper was mocking all the other tips for a quarter inch seam, such as stacking layers of painter's tape or washi tape to form a ridge as the guide, instead of a proper foot. What about those that have top bobbin cases that you need to remove all the tape to change a bobbin? If you want to save money to pay for the sewing foot or guide, Temu is a great resource for pins, needles, clips, rulers, scissors, beads, thread, and other quilting notions, for 80% or more off the retail and even much less than Amazon prices. 10" long wooden clappers for $13-14 each, I now have four clappers at that price. Woolen mats at unbelievable prices, like a third of the price. You have to look and read all the photos which is where the descriptions are and really look at all the info on the item such as size. Some items are the headline price but if you choose other size or color, the price might be higher. Always check that. Free shipping but orders have to be over $15 and you can get credit with no return of one item per order. So, if something you bought for $2 wasn't what you expected, what have you got to lose? A lot of the items are brand name without no brand name listed and no pretty packaging, usually just a cellophane bag. That's a lot of the savings there plus no mark up. The downside is, delivery is usually 10-14 days, but if they miss the delivery date, you get a $5 credit. As to made by slave labor, Temu denies that (their headquarters are in Boston). How do you know that much of the brand name notions you buy, made in China, are not made with slave labor? As to all the stuff we buy, from electronics to kitchenware to shoes, most likely use slave labor. Not in the factory manufacture of the product, but in the raw material resources used to make products. Have you seen the child exploitation slave labor used in mining cobalt? and other raw materials? Who picks cotton at exploitation prices? India, China, and other less developed nations. So, if you are an ethical person, and want to avoid human exploitation, environmentally safe practices, and stop climate change, make sure you only use cotton grown in the US (Texas & Virginia has cotton farming) and manufactured items only grown or made in the US, including mined materials. As to the Temu fabric, not so great. It's still a bargain, but not much variety and precuts are not true to size like other companies. For example, 9x7 inch rectangles, 4.5 inch squares, and strip rolls, 2.5 x 20 inches, and only about 20 strips. The site uses the term Jelly Roll which is not a true Jelly Roll and infringing on Trademark/Copyright name. Who invented the term should contact Temu and tell them not to use the name Jelly Roll. There are some good deals in garment fabric especially especially polyester chiffon, and other such fabrics, but not quilting cotton. I did buy 21 rectangles of Japanese style print fabric with dark red, blue, and black dyes and with a metallic lines on it. I measured the pieces, zigzagged the edges, washed with a Tide pod, a color catcher, the hottest water, and then dried too extra dry. The color catchers had little dye on them and the pieces didn't shrink, and the metallic printing on them in excellent condition. The fabric had a good feel to it, not like Ruby Star feel, but like a Cherrywood fabric cotton feel. They have great prices and good quality on trims, such as lace, I haven't tried the ribbons. Great prices on decorative items for embellishments and the quality was good.
