I’ve watched this video several times- bought the pattern (thanks for making that available)! Today I started clearing out some overflowing scrap boxes- will start cutting tomorrow. I’m so excited. I have dreamt of making this quilt!

Thanks for taking time to recreate this pattern. Potato chip blocks are great when you have a lot of the same size scraps. But this pattern is great for all the different sizes of strips that I don't want to waste. I always look forward to your Monday videos and your honest opinions.

Made this quilt several times in several sizes and I agree it's the best. Although I didn't need the pattern because your video instructions are so great... I just bought it and another to support you. You were so patient waiting for the other pattern writer.. it really is a great use of scraps!! Thanks you for the idea!

I love that you have so many examples of how different “controlled” scrappy color ways work out in this quilt. I am currently using up a bunch of scraps in a somewhat controlled scrappy “plus” quilt. Each square has 20 4 patches made from 2” squares and 3.5” squares that form the plus. I sew the 4 patches as leaders and enders so it is a “scrap time” quilt as well!

I'm not a quilter (yet), but I found these quilts mesmerizing. The purple sashing absolutely MAKES "exploding-head" quilt! Beautiful! I am making a small Kiwandi of colorful coordinated fabrics, and I needed to hear (and see) how important solid colors are to scrappy projects. Thank you!

I've loved this pattern since you first demo'd it. Back then I took a screen shot and jotted down the measurements, but it's so much better to have the actual pattern! Between this and the Potato Chip block, and my HUGE bin of scraps, I can keep busy for a long time.

That was a great suggestion from Last week to cut the triangles and fit them eliminating waste. I know most quilters don’t want to waste fabric so we need pattern makers to design smarter. The landfills are overloaded with fabric.

Maureen, your quilts are exactly what comes to mind when I think of scrap quilts. I saw RR designs trash quilt. Didn't like the block when she first made it but when she ironed it and squared it up I really liked it. She used every shape size and colour.

There is a ton of time and effort, sewing quilts and projects... your frustration is a super easy fix - buy more fabric! You can purchase budget friendly fabrics at thrift store, Micheal's with a coupon, or Walmart to add in to your FQ bundle... if the touching of same fabrics is bugging you, it will still bug you when you are done the project., and you will not use it, and it will end up in the Donation Bin box! Ask me how I know! Even just 2 -3 more FQ's will help to alleviate the problem, for very little cost!

I have two questions. First, how many yards is on the Aurafil thread? Do you sell Scrap bags from your shop?
@theopinionatedquilter7 ай бұрын
There are different size spools and different weights. The heavier weights have less on than the lighter weights. The 50wt. piecing thread that we use has 220 yards on the small spool, 1422 yards on the large spool and 6452on the cone. We tried selling scrap bags in the store and it was unsuccessful so currently we don't. If you would like me to make one for you, email me at quiltersheaveninc@gmail.com and we can work something out for you. Thank you for watching my channel.

Your scrapoy q's are great...BUT, I did 1 q scrapy...HATED IT, & it was colourway planned. To random, too kayotic, just too!!! I through it in garbage... done! The closet I can manage to scrappy is 9 patches from leftovers. I make maybe 10 of tops a yr, maybe more. My best friend of 50 yrs, can make amazing scrappies with her eyes closed!!! We have laughed about my "disgrace " many times. Colour planning for me is the easiest part of quilting. I can match to a fabric I bought 10 yrs ago with several others over the yrs, 1 at a time. Don't even have the original with me. It just happens & is so easy. But NO scraps unless curated first. Keep encourging quilters to explore all alternatives in their journey.
