When the Andals invaded Westeros they may have had superior weapons and technology, but they lacked something the first men had. Magic. Specifically blood magic. Rather than confront magic directly they created institutions to either encourage people to disbelieve/forget or oppose magic altogether. Furthermore since no one is 100% innocent in the world of ice and fire it"s safe assume that no one is 100% guilty either. Maybe the andals have legitemite grievances concerning magic. After all who knows what horrible and destructive things the first men did with magic? Fear may explain why the whitewashed and hid most of history.

You know, there is something that has been on my mind now based on what you shared here: what if Hukko from the pentoshi singers was an Andal king who had declared war on a group of clans in the velvet hills, who shared a common culture and faith, but were extremely territorial and sacrificed anyone who intruded in their lands? After the war ended, Hukko, in turn, sacrificed the leading matriarchs of those clans, who were extremely young at the time (there being 7 of them either was something the faith added later on or was the inspiration for the number 7 in the religion) and either used the swan as their symbol or could skinchange into them (maybe due to some blood of the Ifequevron in their families), to his own gods and brought the remaining people into Andalos. When Hukko died and his son Hugor took over as king, the different cultures and religions in Andalos caused chaos to emerge between the people living there. Seeing Hugor struggling with this chaos in Andalos, members of the Starry wisdom (who might have come to hukko as well, as his advisors, and helped him keep the peace among the other Andals, while guiding where the Andals would conquer and expand their territory next, as well as helping in building relations with other peoples, but not doing anything to change the religion, which would otherwise have made the Andals sacrifice them to the gods) came to help bring unity with the different cultures by helping Hugor and later, the holy priests, create a faith that the different peoples could identify with, while teaching their knowledge and beliefs in the stars in the night sky and the things that share the sky with them, knowledge and beliefs the Andals would include as a sign of gratitude and respect. But along with all this, the starry wisdom would also, very subtly, include the more darker aspects of their faith, without the Andals fully realizing it. Then, to make it so that this new "puppet" faith would spread beyond essos, they then promised Hugor that one day his sons would become kings in a far away land, a paradise away from the mighty unified empires of essos that would wish to snuff them out. Later on, propaganda and "telephone" would give The Seven credit for all this, making it so that the darker reasons couldn't be discovered. If anyone in the Faith knew something was up, they would more likely just believe that it was just the Andals using propaganda to further convert westeros And the first men while making sure the faithful stayed faithful, and would accept that (it helps their religion after all) and continue their work. If they didn't accept it and caused problems , either the faith or the Citadel conspiracy ( created when the Andals managed to control oldtown And tasked with making sure stability and the power of the faith remained in westeros) would take care of the individual in question. All the while, The church of starry can wait in the port cities or among certain people who leave the ports while slowly spreading through trade as the faith goes stronger again and the maesters insure the faith and order remain throughout everything that's going on in westeros and the Faceless men (who might knew a little bit more about what's going on) are paid by people to kill different people, while in the background they complete their given Objective. if you are curious about the possible objective of the faceless men, i'll share that, but no time right now.

Catelyn is a servant of the many-faced god, I knew it. It all clicked. She's very devoted to the Seven. Like that first chapter where she works with the Maester or Septon (memory failing me) Why every thing she decided to do was so chaotic and not at all logical, and she CONSTANTLY seemed like she was on a mission "for her kids" but really she constantly put them in danger and didn't really take care of them? (the CATELY-st for the current state of Westeros hue hue hue) Why she had to marry Ned and have his babies, to corrupt them (seeing as the Stark bloodline is so important to the first men, and he was falling for/ married to a Dayne and you KNOW it was a hot topic of Andal discussion) Why all the Stark children are now being drawn to the dark side Her clear dislike of Jon - it goes beyond even that his claim is better - his heritage is pure First Men, not to mention high potential for a Stark AND Dayne combo aka ANDAL CRYPTONITE Annnndddd why she's been made Lady Stone heart. I think it's a trap, a trick - she's not been brought back like Jon or Beric but like the Others cos leal servitude. *CATELYN FUCKIN TULLY* we could use like 10 more videos of that

@@tinfoiltyrant Okay, so Cat is 100% Narcissist. Clear as day. She's her N father's golden child (Lysa is the scape goat and Brynden is literally the black sheep in the family as he's called before he changes it to Black Fish). Her motives seem noble in a society that values her goals, but objectively they're very Narcissistic traits. Her family words, which she still lives by because she doesn't consider herself Northern, is Family, duty, honor. Basically, submit to and perpetuate the system. It's a matter of pride and vanity, that religious people irl are known for. If I'm not mistaken the Faith is inspired by the RCC, and we can see in both of them this push for dominion and control, which is narcissistic in itself. With all of that said, Ns are notorious liars and manipulators and they seem to be ignorant of this behavior. Liars, after all, are their own biggest victims (they tell themselves the biggest lies of all they tell and believe those lies the most of any of their hearers). So we're not going to get a coherent "I'm a terrible person" kind of thought during her POV. Ns can't consider that they are wanting in any way. It would destroy their massive egos. She makes bad decisions consistently and makes excuses for them. She sabotages her sons efforts in the war and even tells about how she remembers when he was a baby BECAUSE, between the lines, she wants him to still be her little baby. Her favorite is Bran and her least favorite is Arya (we get an account of her emotional neglect of Arya). If you've ever been in close proximity to a Narc this relational paradigm happens naturally in families as well as in small teams at work. When Bran is in the coma, she loses it. She completely neglects her other children. That is not a good mother. This way of mothering as a whole is a good way to mess all the kids up and make them ripe for what's happening with them through the books: Bran gets more license to do things he's not supposed to do and has supernatural aid. Arya gets acceptance and purpose. Sansa fell into a world of hurt that she was completely unprepared for thanks to her mother. I actually have the most hope that Sansa will overcome the disadvantages she's been put through. She started off entitled and life is stomping that out. Robb died. And with Rickon, it's still too early to tell.
@williamwhitfield62253 жыл бұрын
@@genesisdawn6672 She certainly sucks as a mother overall, and constantly fucks up and is the driving force behind the chaos that befalls her family. Remember Ned was going to refuse Roberts request for him to become his hand. It was Cat who convinced him that Robert was in danger and he should go to protect him.

I was totally thinking the church of starry wisdom and the seven had a connection ever since I saw the star of the seven and the church mentioned in tandem. I was so glad that you mentioned it, I had been wanting to explore the concept for some time. I had originally thought the Faith of the Seven had forgotten it's starry roots and transformed into a diluted version, yet it seems ever more sinister - I'm so excited to read through the series. Also side-note - Catelyn talks about singing praises in her small sept in Winterfell and that's eerily similar to the tales of the Priests of the Starry Wisdom singing atop their towers in Essos.

With this new perspective I would love to know what your thoughts are on the importance of House Dayne. I have made my mind for years, also considering what Martin stated in interviews. He seems to be very quiet and short when asked about Daynes. Yet, he said, they will play a role and all will be unvovered in due time. Their House words would spoil the story, their family tree to be revealed in future books. Their colour is a violet. Red and Blue mixed makes violet. Ice (blue) and Fire (red). They are referred to Amethysts like the Amethyst Empress, whom the BE betrayed. And their sword is pale as milkglas. We get this description also for the swords of the Others. And Dany sees swords, white as milkglass in her vision, when she sees the Gemstone Emperors. I would really love to see your thoughts about House Daynes part in the picture.

Happy New Year, guys! I really enjoy your videos and I think that your theories might be right. I mean, there are some interpretations that could go both ways, right or wrong, but most of the things that you said actually make sense. The evidence that you brought supports everything. It's really hard, at this point, after watching all your work so far, to say that things could go on a different path. They might, of course, since GRRM is the only guy who knows everything there is to know about A Song of Ice and Fire and who decides what happens next. But right now, I believe that there's a 60-70-80% chance that you're right. I just have one question: How will these pieces of information be revealed? It looks to me like you'd need an entire book just to explain to the audience the entire "lies of the andals and of the seven" chapter. And if indeed Ned was married to Ashara, then there's a lot of work to be done there as well. So? Another book, similar to The World of Ice and Fire? Or maybe Bran, through his visions? I don't see how the other characters would be able to find this information and then share it with the audience. Since we see the world of Ice and Fire through the eyes of a very small number of people, who have their own opinions and beliefs, there's definitely a lot that we don't know about it. Could some lord Hightower chapters do the job? That guy definitely knows something and I'd love to read his POV. Maybe a Jaquen chapter, to reveal the connection between the many faced god and the others? Or maybe Arya stumbles upon the entire conspiracy while in Braavos and afterwards she runs back to Westeros to warn everybody? p.s. I feel that Arya is one of the most important characters in the entire story and I believe that she could play an important part in bringing down the Faceless Men and even the Others. I think that Jaquen made a mistake when he sent her to Braavos. Maybe he thought that she was too far gone, after hearing her recite her list. And maybe he thought she could be turned, not knowing that she is a warg, connected to Nymeria and to her family as well. What do you guys think?
@TheOrderoftheGreenhand7 жыл бұрын
it seems (to us anyways) that Ashara herself is going to be the vehicle that reveals Jon's parentage...we feel pretty strongly that she is Lemore and when Aegon comes north, she will be with him and we'll get to see Jon meet his mother...Bran seems more likely to be the POV through which he gives us important ancient history information...we also are huge fans of Arya's character...a lot of people try to say she's broken, but it seems to us that her "Stark Values" are firmly entrenched in her personality and her sense of duty and justice will never allow her to truly "become no one"...I think her abilities are what the Faceless Men seek out in new recruits, but she is truly Ned's daughter and that will likely mean she's going to cause a ruckus on her way out of Braavos...most likely due to news she hears from the North about Stannis taking Winterfell and Wyman Manderly placing Rickon in his rightful place or something like that...or maybe even news about Jon, who is unquestionably her favorite family member
@AdrianSPQR7 жыл бұрын
I hope that GRRM will not break her connection to Nymeria, as the show did. Those two need to get back together. Cersei and her bastard caused them to be separated. I demand justice. I demand that they get back together to fight the Others.:)
@theinvisiblewoman67832 жыл бұрын
@@AdrianSPQR I don’t think Arya can break her connection to Nymeria. The Starks being wargs with the exception of Sansa Tully, isn’t a connection they worked at like Varamir (spelling?) six skins. Most of the Stark children warged their wolves not even aware of what it was or how. Arya thinks it’s just wolf dreams.

Waking up on new year's day to an Order of the Green Hand video, that's a nice way to start a new year. There's a sure fire way to know exactly how the Faith of the Seven is evil without all this piecing things together and looking at every little detail, we all know they're evil if we consider every sept has seven wall forming a heptagon. Do you know how god damn difficult those angles are to cut? The interior angles between all the walls are 128.57142857142857142857142857143 degrees or 2.2439947525641380274733167023425 radians, how the hell do you measure that using medieval hand tools? And the faith demands thousands of those damn septs be built across all the 7 Kingdoms, that right there is proof enough of their evil ways. I feel sorry for all those carpenters.
@TheOrderoftheGreenhand7 жыл бұрын
couldn't agree more...we read a bit about that a few days ago and from what we read about it they're impossible to measure with a compass and therefore no perfect ones exist
@coreymicallef3657 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I didn't know that. Maybe they should amalgamate the Father and the Smith, and the Mother and Crone so that there's only 5 aspects with pentagon shaped temples a replacing seven pointed stars with pentagrams. That'd be much less evil.
@TheOrderoftheGreenhand7 жыл бұрын
if you look at the official art of the seven (all sitting around the circle table), the Crone and Maiden appear as though they are part of the Stranger, and the Warrior and Mother look like they are part of the Father, and no one apparently likes the Smith

Church of starry wisdom ,the starry Sept always sounded to me like a secret society. The higher you go the more mysteries get revealed to you. The fiery hand and the swords and stars very well may be on opposite sides but the secrets held by their masters could be the same forbidden knowledge. The bloodstone emperor had his "wisdom" I wonder if the amethyst princess had hers as well and perhaps one took advantage of that before the other had a chance to display theirs. In other words perhaps the emperor made the move before the princess made hers. Maybe all the magic and power comes from the same source, and its up to the wielder of those powers to determine the course. To be honest, I don't feel a benevolent force in this series, people are flawed so they bring out a selfishness in their hopes and dreams leading the great power or great other to take a more pragmatic course rather than heeling. You have to give yourself up totally. With all the past lives in animals and weirwoods the powers are focused on those past lives and desires. The powers are focused on that. You can't move forward if you're always in the past.

Happy new year guys. As usual, congrats on another great video. To a very large degree your theories confirm a lot of the community's suspicions and I believe you are spot on about a great many things. However I have a question. You have hypothesized that a) The children and the faceless men are in league in their common goal of "all men must die". b) The others ate the instrument that will bring about the doom of mankind. And here is the question. In my reading of the books so far (I'm still at ASOS) my idea is that the children and the others are really not buddies.
@TheOrderoftheGreenhand7 жыл бұрын
as we have progressed in our understanding of the deeper aspects of the story, we've sort of changed our opinion of the Children from being the primary source of evil, if you will, to a small piece of a larger pie...our opinion that they are not to be trusted hasn't changed though

Also, totes makes sense why Dany feels drawn to end the Ghiscari and slavers. Deep down the dragon remembers. I wonder if the doom was planned by the followers of Blood Emp to take out Valyrians, so Aegon came and made his seat in Westeros to regain power and team up with the First Men Magic vs. ya lyin Andal bullshit
@subarnosinha80426 жыл бұрын
Mrs. Morbid but Aegon's and other Targaryen king's court was filled mostly with Andal scum, and very few first men followers. I seriously hope houses like Royce, Blackwood, Dayne have some serious firepower left in them to be a major power player in the Great War to Come.

Subarno Sinha Amost every seat in his small council was filled by houses that existed before the andals landed in westeros or are descendent from valyria.
@ahtinen40043 жыл бұрын
He never teamed up with the First Men. Targaryens became Faith of The Seven followers. They more like teamed up with the legacy of the lying Andals. Would have been cool if they became Old God's followers instead and destroyed the false faith of the Andals, too bad it didn't happen

Happy new year y’all! Great video as always. But it leaves me with a question. Do you thinking ASoIaF is actually set in Lovecraft’s open source setting, or is all this just artistic homage and borrowed, similar concepts? Could the world of ice and fire be one of the worlds that Blake sees when he looks into the crystal stone, for example? The exert you read says, “... with half-formed worlds of wonder within... alien orbs with great stone towers, and other orbs with... no mark of life...” he clearly seeing other planets, some with life. Is it probable that the world of ASoIaF is one of, if not that very, “alien orb” with stone towers? Or is it all just a wink and nudge to one of GRR Martin’s favorite writers? Basically, is it just a reference, or should ASoIaF actually be considered part of the mythos in your opinions? Also, do you think you might do a video on who actually knows they work for The Others? The Kindly Man knows who he works for, but does the High Sparrow know, or is he just a tool? What about the septs as a whole? Do the Maesters know, or are they just so focused on self preservation that they are useful pawns? You’ve touched on a lot of people over the course of your videos who are serving The Others, some more wittingly than others, but any chance at a comprehensive compilation of The Others’ servants?
@TheOrderoftheGreenhand7 жыл бұрын
there are definitely some aspects of the story that could lead you to think that Lovecraft's work inspired the setting of the story...then sometimes I find myself wondering if this is going to be the ultimate Ragnarok except it's going to be Lovecraft's Outer Gods vs real world mythology figures, but I tend to stick to the idea that he is so well researched that aspects of just about everything, from real-world history, to mythology of every sort, to Lovecraftian mythos, to every religion in the history of the world...the more you dig, the more you realize that the research he has done for this series is incredible

However it would be doublethink to assume that R'hllor (name sounding very Lovecraftian) whose followers literally burn people alive and practice slavery are the good guys. I think that the Seven began as a mere worlbuilding element, just reskinned Catholicism but over time George got this sinister idea. Also Happy New Year!

When Catelyn was in the sept and used a torch for light, it was past sunset. Plus, windows are costly the further down you go in the class system. And when winter comes, as it inevitably does, how will the congregation stay warm? The candles lit? The wealthiest sept can afford stained glass. And huge windows to let the light in, and the wind/snow out. It seems to me that each region/sept does it’s best to be well lit, preferably by natural light, but in places like Winterfell it’s just not worth it to put in big windows. Even in summer it’s chilly there.

I think the interplay between the different "gods" of this world is like the dichotomy between Cthulu and Hastur; they both have their devotees who would consider them "good" but no love for one another, and are (mostly) alien and horrifying, whether it's the Other or the Lord of Light.

The Titan of Braavos stands like the Orion constellation. I know in another video you cover that constellation connecting to House Dayne. And upon looking up information about that constellation (quick scan through Wikipedia): There are seven primary stars in the constellation. Orion was thought to be the father of the Nephilim (potentially demigods) in Ancient Aram. In the Medieval Middle East, the sixth brightest start of that constellation was called the Sword of the Giant. In India there is a connection between this constellation and Shiva. In old Hungarian tradition Orion is called Nimrod (the greatest hunter) and has two sons Hunor and *Magor* . In Scandanavian tradition Orion's Belt is known as Freya's distaff. In various Spanish speaking countries the belt is know as either the Three Marys or the Three Wise Men. For the Chippewa people, he is referred to as the *Winter Maker* as his presence heralds the coming of winter. The Lakota have a myth about part of the constellation called the Hand. The gods punished a chief for his selfishness by having his arm ripped off. His daughter promised to marry whomever could restore the arm. A young warrior called Fallen Star (who's father was a star and mother a human) returned the arm and married the daughter. This signified harmony between gods and humanity. Tolkien included an analog of Orion called Menelvagor, the Swordsman in the Sky. Sometimes Orion is depicted as fighting Taurus or hunting Lepus (the hare) and some times carries a lion hide. Meissa is the star representing Orion's head and is known as the Shining One. Theta Orionis is a cluster of stars in the heart of the constellation and is called the Trapezium. The constellation is related to Aurvandil in Germanic mythology. That name has a cognate in English which means morning star or dawn. This Aurvandil figure was also married to a seeress. And had a frozen toe. This figure has ties to Eostre (Easter/Ishtar, a fertility diety, to whom, in the oldest traditions, received the sacrifices of babies and the blood from those sacrifices was used to die eggs) and Lucifer (who's name literally means light bringer).

What I like in the backstories of asoiaf is most questions get answered before asking a question. Like the women who joined the nights watch was killed. If a targaren drinks wildfire. Will they turn to a dragon. They don't. That's why I like this series. Clear the misconceptions that George made as he said it himself that history is messy

Fun fact: The way Melissandre burnt down idols of Seven and was openly hostile to it and the followers, we did not see her doing the same with Weirwood trees or say anything offensive to the Old Gods yet. I don't seem to remember that Melissandre wanted to burn down the Wall in the books

I feel like there is something off in the reasoning as you link the trees to the others to death to the many faced god and the blood stone emperor indicating they would all be in unison then indicate that the children who warship the trees who are linked to the faceless god/ seven and death etc are at odds with the andals ?

I enjoyed this series of videos very much thx guys! Although, since you bring Lovecraft into this which is obviously huge influence on GRRM you should know that the horrors he played around came from men realizing how irrelevant they are in the face of whats out there. You guys still try to explain things in terms of good and evil. Lovecraft nor GRRM work like that. If Gods exist in Planetos and they are Lovecraftian than they are simply being beyond human understanding that toy with humans for their own reasons. So the both sides are being used and in the end no one wins.

TargInWinterfell if you are referring to the order of the green hand I don't think they lie, this is the result of their reaserch and if you don't agree with them that's fine but at least admit that this videos take a lot of effort both on the production(the production value it's really high) and reaserch part, I don't see anyone saying this things to people like emergency awesome who does videos with no effort and receives exclusive information (he knew what would happen in the episodes and his reviews were uploaded minutes after the episodes) HBO cluster fuck of a show.
