a nice way of finding out the name for the second part of the names is this: if the last element has a number that is 3 or less than 3, its going to have the suffix -ide (eg. Nh3 - hydrogen nitride) if the last element has a number that is 3 or more, its going to have the suffix -ate (e.g H2SO4 - hydrogen sulfate) CuSo4- magnesium sulphate Ca0- calcium oxide NH4NO3- ammonium nitrate KOH - pottasium hydroxide

I’m taking chemistry this summer and I don’t understand anything our teacher explains so I’m teaching myself. your videos help so much. I paid for a class that I learn nothing from. Learned lesson: Do not take a class with a professor that most students wrote bad reviews about. I took the risk because there was no another option for this semester and I’m regretting it.

Don't know what you have to remenber and what not, but SO4 2- and CO3 2- both happen if you deprotonate H2SO4 and H2CO3 twice, so take both H+ away. For H2SO4 and SO4 2- the amount of H) the charge as an ion is something you will understand later, but I think you may understand H2CO3, since it occurs with this simple reaction from 2 chemicals that you probably know: H2O + CO2 -> H2CO3 And since it has to H bound to O, you will have a 2- as an ion.
