I'm a young man trying to nurture my inner gentleness after a childhood of watching my drunk dad abuse women, and the bobo doll theory hits home for me. My father was beaten by his stepfather, and as an adult he taught me that domestic violence is ok. It's been a hard chain to break but when I look at my partner and see the love in his eyes I appreciate how far away from that life I've come. Frustration is completely natural, using it as an excuse to hurt anyone is just flexing how tiny your self control is.

Thanatos was the personification of death in Greek mythology. Also, Thanos from Marvel comics had an obsession with death and the personification in the comics was a woman whom he fell in love with.

I always have Frustration-aggression. It's like if I'm in a situation and someone just touches me or speaks a word out of their mouth. It makes me go poof and I lash out on the person without having any clear reason.

Bobo doll theory makes more sense that the others. As children who grow up in abusive families tend to become aggressive later in life .
@hi.moriarty
@hi.moriarty 3 жыл бұрын
The BoBo doll does explain a lot about what we witnessed growing up and how the cycle can continue. Like you mentioned, there are many who come from these backgrounds destined to repeat the same things in their lives. Those who do not become violent and aggressive are likely to be the ones who grow into the other end of the spectrum and become perpetual 'victims' because it's what they learned to be. I believe that it's a sound theory. And yet, only one part of a whole. If we are fortunate in our lives, we will come across a few people who can show us what healthy is...then we are truly blessed and can begin to heal and change the cycle. Because this is in the realm of social learning, I believe the cycle has a better chance at being broken if govt's could see the advantages of offering more resources for learning how to parent in healthy ways.

@@hi.moriarty what do you mean by “who can show us what healthy is”? do you not know what healthy is or you do know but just haven’t had first-hand experience with healthy people?
@hi.moriarty
@hi.moriarty 3 жыл бұрын
@@FruityHachi What a great clarifying question, Dom! Thanks! I meant that I hadn't experienced, as a normal dynamic in my own life. What I thought was healthy from my childhood, has actually turned out to be a cruel misinteretation of what I believed was supposed to be loving qualities. I was my Mother's favorite. That says a lot right there. I'm 54 years old now and have, in the last 2 years, formed a great network of healing and growth-oriented people in my life. Seeing what honesty, sincerity, empathy, compassion, support and a genuine appreciation for me in who I am as an individual WAS NOT what my Mother has done in my life, even up tp 2 weeks ago. There was no personal connection or encourgement with her except in what I was giving to her. Does that makes sense? Without these peoplereinforcing what I knew was "good" by actually showing it to me, selflessly...without those conditions, I would not have been as confident in building what was good and healthy in myself. I KNEW inherently I think, because the her psychological and emotonal abuse created 52 years of e believing that there was something wrong and broken about me for who I was. I knew I hurt. And hurting is wrong. But I didn't know why. Covert manipulation and the abuse that my mom has been doing to me has only come to full light in my awareness through what I had learned on my own over the years, and was reinforced in my comprehension of that knowledge from The people who I have established HEALTHY relationshps with. Mom is not one of those peop anymore welcome to be in my life.

sociopaths ussauly grow up in abusive homes Also growing up with an abusive father with a mother who shames you for being agresive When that's what you learned I am blamed for my emotions as well as my siblings emotions It's torture It's gotten to the point where being agresive or assertive enjoyable because doing something exciting with adrenaline calms me down And anger feels the same as bordem

@Super_BeastGirl
@Super_BeastGirl 3 жыл бұрын
According to Freud humans have a life instinct (eros) and a death instinct, called thanatos. This death instinct compels humans to engage in risky and destructive behaviors that could lead to death (remember, it is an instinct for personal death.)

Children are not be toyed with. Neither are adolescents. A method better suited for such, would be to register how much they feel they were loved by their parents or loved ones. Humans are naturally concerned with their own self being or with other peoples welfare. Honestly, I never gave much credence to fight or flight response, because there is a third option... reflection.

Bobo doll experiment is cheap. The kids just observed HOW to play with that bobo doll and repeat it. That doesnt mean the kids are more likely to be aggressiv. Of course humans are adaptive, doing stuff thats observed from others but its not THE answer here.

This is bullshit these old theories no take into account the hormonal control of the body. Without oxytocin people mostly males become extremely aggressive because they cannot empathize with others. Oxytocin is found in all mammals during birth as it creates the bond between the mother and the baby, even if the baby is sick or deformed. Also emotions were not controlled will take over a persons life. The more you let out the more out of control you become. That is because your body is in fight or flight and full of cortisol and adrenaline. Most aggressive people have zero control over their emotions and believe that their emotions should dictate their life
