Ben Glasser So true, the Sanctuary Fortress was an amazing and beautiful surprise. The Luminoth said cliffs and I was thinking, more rocks and such. Not that technologically advanced, pretty blues and greens, structure. However, the Dark Aether side of it looked much the same as other section, as Deses was referring to. I think there was a lot more red and the layout was cool, but it was that same darkness aspect again.

If there's one thing I loved most about Corruption, it was the environments. Skytown and Phaaze in particular were just beautiful. I also loved the horror aspect in some areas, like the Xenoresearch Labs, where you have to knowingly turn off the power to get out of the building whilst releasing the Phazon Metroids which start stalking you. And of course the GFS Valhalla, where a bloodbath took place. That ruined ship put me on edge and made me want to get out of there as soon as possible. If you looked out of the windows you could even see countless Metroids floating out there in the blood red nebula. I just wish Phaaze wasn't such a linear location and that we could've explored it more. Plus I found the bizarre lifeforms there fascinating and would've loved to see more of them. The possible connection between the Dark Aetherian Ing Horde and the Phaz-Ing, the significance of Metroid Prime exoskeletons in the Genesis Chamber, I needed more lore!

I enjoyed Corruption more than Echoes, but I felt like it didn't leave as much of a lasting impact as Echoes or especially the original Prime. At the time, I attributed this to the game's shorter length and easier difficulty... but watching this video has helped me consider that there were other factors that contributed to its lack of impact.

I think each game on repeated playthroughs have their quirks. Metroid Prime 1 can have some downtime by the middle of the game like the underwater Frigate Orpheon. Metroid Prime 2 has the most backtracking in the main campaign, and Metroid Prime 3 has the long tutorial and its more mission combat based than exploratory. IMO Prime 2 feels like the longest, because you're essentially travelling through the whole game in both light and dark worlds. It has the most morphball puzzles and might be the hardest.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED Metroid Prime 3:Corruption. It might be my favourite game in the Prime series now that I think about it. In order from best to least good it’s Corruption first, Prime in a close second and Echoes in a bit of a more distant third. I played all the games in Metroid Prime: Trilogy, which I bought because it was less than half the price as other games, but this one was actually three AND came in a pretty metallic box. I loved them all, but I specially like 3 for the reason everyone hated it: the motion control levers and buttons and other crap like that.

While I agree with your issues regarding Hypermode and the Gunship loading screens, I still think Prime 3’s an amazing game, and still has a lot of pros that should be mentioned: For example, it’s by far THE most detailed game in the entire Metroid series, and I see something new every time I play, from a brief glimpse of a Reptilicus spying on you to the tiny claw marks left by a Metroid-killed Pirate. Sure, most of the planets have warm color palettes, but their unique architecture sets them apart. Plus, I loved how much worldbuilding it did, introducing two new alien cultures and their complete history, as well as revealing far more about the Pirates and Federation than any other game. It’s still a fantastic game in my opinion, and I think it’s highly underrated.

I love prime 3, i do believe phazoids are very annoying but hyper mode is incredibly balanced with the early game having not have much energy tanks making using hyper mode risky, fire power for health sacrifice, later game enemies have high health and higher attack making using hyper mode even riskier to use lest you lose more health so you have to use it smarter. Metroid prime 3's tutorial is epic it builds the hype at the beginning by getting you attached to the motion controls and getting you into the story. The norion secrion was to get you set into the fighters for when they later turn on you so you get attached to them and then ending it with ridley which was awesome. The game is very linear near the beginning but doesnt feel like it since after the initial dropoff you dont truly have much direction especially as the game opens up later on in the game. Especially with the side quest on bryyo. The areas may look similar but you forgot to mention some areas that are way different from the main areas like ice bryyo, norion later half of the game, metroid xenoreaserch, and all the leviathan seeds. I dont know why this seemed to trigger me prob because prime 3 was my firstand favourite metroid game.

I personally like prime 3 more than 2. no matter where I went in prime 2 I never really knew what to do. I just walked around an hour and suddenly something different happend. Even if I see where I need to go and know (or assume to know) the way to my destination, I get stuck in a room that doesnt really looks like there would be something. In the best case there would be a trigger or button I need to activate somewhere behind a wall with no visual clue to what I need to do exactly. I have some kind of dreadful feeling when ever I play it. I just think about all the annoying enemies like these weird tantacle balls which randomly change between immortal and attackable. I didnt feel like that while playing prime 1 or 3. In prime 1 I was fascinated by my surroundings and in prime 3 I never used the hyper mode as I feared that I would instantly lose if I dont get the phazon out of samus fast enough and I felt challenged but not annoyed(you stated that it gets boring and unrewarding as you basically only fight with it and makes new equipment useless/not noteworthy). Some enemies even have multiple ways to deal with either by shooting or using the grapple beam and I really enjoyed defeating my enemies like that. I hope you understand what I am trying to say. Its 2am and I am not sure if I was able to write logically constructed sentences with grammatical correctness. (I really enjoy your videos and am always happy to see new uploads from you.)

The game wasn’t disappointing at all. MP3 is the reason I found metroid in the first place, a great game where you go to multiple planets, face bosses that would be invincible if you didn’t have a specific upgrade. A game where your quote friends turn evil and you have to kill them to advance, a game that has a character that throughout the story has less and less emotion and becomes more broken to the point at the end she doesn’t seem to care about the federation and uses them to get to the last location to finish dark Samus. This game was epic and one of the best I’ve ver played. When metroid prime 4 was announced, I was excited because of the memories of this game

Prime 3 was a big improvement in controls over the GameCube games. Actually being able to aim and move at the same time is a monumental improvement. Aiming is still lock on and shoot only you got to point at the screen. It would have been far better if there weren't an aim feature and that you had to aim manually via the motion controls. That would make this the greatest shooter controls....ever. The game as many say is way too easy. I feel like it was because it was on the Wii which was perhaps the most accessible console ever. The game needed a much higher difficulty a bit harder than Prime 1. The phazon mode should be discouraged. You should seldom use it as it should drain your health akin to dark Aeither quickly. Prompting you to use is sparingly. Phazon enemies by proxy would actually be difficult to deal with. The planets are far to narrow in this game and because they are different planets there are no cohesion between them. However that couldn't be avoided because of the Wii's lack of a second analog stick that could be used for camera controls. It's something that hurt Skyward Sword a lot and the remake on Switch makes it more obvious when you can move the camera and see just how narrow that game was. Still though I wish motion control gaming evolved rather than for the most part getting scrapped. The Switch could do it all. It functions the way should have been and have the motion controls of the Wii. We could have gotten Prime Trilogy on Switch and new game with motion controls and of course regular controls. The Joycons actually have a second analog stick so it could do it all but Nintendo is not utilizing to it's fullest potential.

I'd have to play it again to see if my perspective has changed at all, but the fact that it's been like 8 years since I've bothered to play Corruption kind of speaks for itself - whereas I've messed with Echoes within the past year, and I only stopped replaying Prime 1 since I've gotten as much out of it as I possibly could. Also: I love your tastes in music! Bomberman Hero and Mario Tennis 64 ftw :)

I mean... I didn't really use Hyper Mode all that much during my first playthrough of Prime 3 unless it was ABSOLUTELY necessary, and I ended up wasting a lot of health anyway considering I'm a pretty terrible shot sometimes ;-;

I have three main issues with the game that make this my least favorite of the trilogy. 1. The map designs. I'm not a fan of more planets at the cost of interconnectivity and openness. Needing to use your ship to go everywhere kind of sucked, and there were no huge places where you could really get lost. 2. The load times are way too long. I know this may seem minor, but needing to wait 10 seconds at a door every two minutes gets really tiring over time. And flying in the ship took forever too. 3. The difficulty balancing is just a mess. Either it's too easy, or it's too hard. Playing on lower difficulties makes hypermode broken, yet encouraged, while playing on hard makes hypermode an absolute necessity. Playing on hard is a total chore, since enemies take WAY too long to kill, even with hypermode. And since most of the enemies are annoying to begin with, playing on hard makes the entire game a lot more obnoxious as a whole. But if you don't play on hard, the game becomes a totally mindless kill fest fueled by phazon. Either way, you're either making the game a total breeze or a tedious slog, and that's not cool. It also really messes up the progression because of this. Getting new beams never feels good, since they never really feel more powerful due to this messed-up balancing. I play Prime 1 and 2 on hard all the time, and they're two of my favorite games of all time. 3, on the other hand, just doesn't do it for me. It's good, and I do like it a lot, but it fails to live up to what came before it in a ton of ways.

I agree a lot with your feelings, the maps can be very confusing on the planets of this game

I wouldn't call the opening segments of Prime 3 a tutorial. It's more of a prologue, if anything. The story has already kicked off, you're already (hopefully) well-versed in the gameplay, there is no need for a tutorial. Heck, I don't really see the Metroid series (except Other M) as a series that uses tutorial stages at all. They just throw you in, and you learn as you go through the game.

I absolutely love all the Prime games, and for the longest time I thought 1 > 3 > 2. But since then I've gone back with a more critical view and I think it's become 1 > 2 > 3. I absolutely love 3 but not quite as much as the others. You mention some excellent points that even during my early playthroughs of 3 I couldn't quite explain. The environments looking too similar, lack of memorable music, the bosses sharing the same patterns and color pallettes. These things may be minor when viewing 3 as its own game, but when compared to the other two it feels so lacking at times! I love the way you've analyzed these and I agree with you on so many points. Thanks for articulating what I've not been able to!

I think the reason of the long tutorial is because the motion controls, if i remember correctly mp3 was and early title and i guess they wanted to introduce players to all the new stuff

I actually have a theory about Dark Samus's lack of involvement in the story overall...and that's basically to be just a big mindfuck for Samus. She wants Samus to find her way to Phaaze, she wants Samus to defeat the other hunters, she wants to finish her off herself because when Samus is out of the way there's nothing stopping her from taking over the Galaxy. It really doesn't matter to her what happens to the Space Pirates because she was only just using them anyways, and because they were thirsty for Phazon they were easily malleable for her needs. Dark Samus wanted Samus to succeed until she could finish her off herself as her final act of vengeance against the one who disturbed her beauty sleep on Tallon IV. Dark Samus probably felt she was at an advantage on Phaaze so she did nothing to stop her and the federation from getting there. Heck after Samus was dealt with the Galactic Federation was right there for the pickings since the only reason they managed to escape was because Dark Samus was defeated to begin with. All she had to do was send in another hourde of Phazon Metroids to wipe out the entire GF crew.

I still think GFS Valhalla is one of my favourite areas in the Prime series. While it is linear, going back through proves just as daunting as going deep inside.

I do agree with a lot of your criticisms though I would like to make an argument. About the long tutorial: I do agree, it is quite long though I do believe it serves as a great storytelling and immersion technique. I've played through the Prime series again myself quite recently and I found myself enjoying getting immersed into the war-like bureaucratic state of the Olympus. This does hamper the game's replayablity since the second or third time around it does hold the players back and its slow paced nature does feel like a drag. I've played Prime 3 three times and each were more than six years apart which I think is more than enough time to forget the exact layout of the game and forget the introduction is in fact an introduction so I can see why a fan who would play it more frequently would be more frustrated with it but I'd still like to point out the introduction's ability to immerse the player into the world much like Fallout 3's "Growing Up In The Vault" introduction.

While I personally find 3 the easiest to replay more than a couple times, I really enjoyed this video and agreed with most all of it. My biggest difference is that the more ambient music is def disappointing but better lends itself to replays by being less intrusive. Also, loved the use of Custom Robo's soundtrack; when the gearing up music started I was ecstatic!

Corruption's control scheme is a pain in the ass for the modding community. I've been trying to help out with projects like PrimeHack, but like I said: It's a pain in the ass. I think what Corruption suffers from is accessability. I believe another KZbinr said it, and I'm not trying to steal their words, but it's true. Corruption was designed for noobs to try and get more players that aren't familiar with the Metroid franchise or involved. A similar comparison would be the scan pulse from Samus Returns. It also doesn't help that the game was also designed to sell the Wii's primary gimmick; It's control interface.

Funny enough, I've been thinking lately on how I had a lot of fun with Prime 3 when it first came out, yet I never once replayed it (despite Prime 1 being my GOAT and having numerous plays of it). This video did quite a good job of answering that question of why I haven't done it myself, though I almost want to go back to it just to see if there's other points I forgot about. For example, I remember there being this one escort mission where you need to transport a special GFed squad, and I found it easy to get 100% on back then but I dunno if it's annoying now.

So this video popped up in my reccomendations, and I have to say, I quite enjoy the production values you have. Video has a great presentation with all those chibi drawings coming in, and the selection of background music is superb (Just Custom Robo Battle Revolution alone would've sold me, but there's also Megaman Battle Network 5 and Starforce 3 to boot) but the music is also at that right volume where you can enjoy it while not drowning your narration. Congrats! I'll check out other videos in your channel and see if I fancy subscribing :) -I'm not the type of person to subscribe after watching a single video from any given channel. I need to have a bigger sample to decide, as to not clutter my subscription feed- Edit: Yeah, I subbed. There's really good stuff in this channel~

As a huge metred fan whose 1st game was in fact prime 3, I can attest that it was a great starting point! Having played pretty much Every other metroid game by this point, I can see where we coming from with a lot of these grievances, and yeah for someone just starting the series who wouldn't be coming from the others to realize these, it would be a bit more ideal I suppose. It really is too bad about the dumbed down gameplay, but Its implementation of the story is probably my favorite in the series, and its motion controls were by far one of the most tolerable on the wii... Heck I think I'd even go as far as to say that the tactile sensations of certain interactions like the batteries and what not are pretty enjoyable and immersive to some degree.

I agree on one point though. I remember being really disappointed the first time i played that wasn't more of a risk/reward calculation involved in using hyper mode. I really wanted to feel like I was taking a huge risk whenever I went into hyper mode and that I was pushing my luck for more fire power. I didn't lose anything by using it, which was a shame

I only played Prime 3 once. I at least went back to the 1st and 2nd multiple times and enjoyed those games even till this day. I’m not a fan of of continuously holding the wii remote to keep the reticle trained on the screen. While I could play the first two games for hours on end, I couldn’t play this game for more than an hour at a time. Maybe that is the limitation of the hardware, but I wished that there was an option to have the reticle fixed to the center. This is partly why I’m glad I still have my GameCube copies of the first two, and have never tried to play the wii ports of those games. The story is ok, but the control scheme, and some other puzzles that I didn’t care for, I just couldn’t get past to revisit the game.

I prefer the 1st 2 as well. I don't like using the Wii remote in my hand and moving it around. I just want to use a game controller not a Wii remote. Is it possible to buy a regular Wii controller to use instead. Then to use a Wii remote?

Something I've always wondered is that this game kind of implies that the federation modified the chozo suit. Would have made more sense if they give you the power up once you wake up and your suit integrates it into itself.

Speaking of the Phazon Mines, when I got to the Phazon Mines during my first playthrough of Metroid Prime, the music itself kind of freaked me out so much that I stopped playing the game for a while. 13:36 I hear that Custom Robo music, and all the sudden it hits me like a ton of bricks that Custom Robo would be a terrific game for the Switch, especially since Switch's "on the go" nature fits really well with how characters take their robes with them for "on the go" battles.

To me. My biggest gripe is that it forces you to complete the game as fast as you can. I think it’s a good and a bad thing, good because I can get right back in the game and complete it but bad because it doesn’t allow me to experiment with the new abilities I get. Like in prime 1 when I got the wave beam I had to find a location where it can open but allowed me to have fun with it while I go there. In the end I’m still playing prime 3 and spending more time playing that game other then the other prime games.
