Wally's race with Mercury in The Flash #55 was before he had broken down the mental block keeping him from surpassing Barry AND before he entered the Speed Force during his fight with Kobra and came out fuckin' crazy fast. So that doesn't count at all, Wally was nowhere near his fastest. I'm sure if they raced now Wally would wreck him. (As soon as they fix this heart condition thing that Damian just caused. Little bastard!) Also, Injustice Barry is super slow. He gets shot in Injustice 2. That shouldn't be possible.

I think Shazam got some new power sources recently, although I haven't fallowed it, so it might have changed back. In the darksied war (I think) his old powers abandoned him, so he went on a quest for new patrons, and got a new powerset, that I don't think still includes superspeed, but still spells shazam.

always thought that they were equal due to the fact at least to my knowledge that one has never been portrayed to be faster than the other. Until Justice #7 Superman says to Captain Marvel before you use the lighting since you have the speed of a God (Mercury) just Grab onto him(flash). Now this is my question and keep in mind this is to prevent CM from using the lighting. Why wouldn't Superman try to grab flash instead of asking Captain Marvel to do so. Injustice Superman's power scaling was so all over the place and so it's reasonable to think that he couldn't catch up to the flash, even though injustice flash is not that fast compared to main continuity flashes. Well flash became a lot faster while the comics evolved, and his speed seems really inconsistent. The flash of earlier comics isnt as fast as the current one regardless of wether he powered up or not, simply because the writers deemed so. They usually tie/stalemate/unclear winner in most fights between the two I've read. Shazam is faster, Superman is stronger, Shazam has more endurance, but Superman is more durable etc. Writers usually balance out the two with each having respective wins over the other.

Flash is faster than Shazam because in the comics Jay Garrick (the slowest flash) raced black Adam and won, and since Shazam and black Adam are equals that means that all the flashes except for the new 52 Wally are faster than him and all the other flashes are much faster than Jay and Shazam doesn't have all of Mercury's speed.

Plus, Shazam has the powers of these gods plus Zeus. This means that he posseses the strength of Herc and Zeus, the speed of Mercury and Zeus, the endurance of Atlas and Zeus. This makes him faster than ANY Flash...

Drake, I think you're forgetting that Shazam only has a fraction of the power that each refraction has; if he had the exact same amount of power as each refraction, he'd be able to kill each of the gods with ease. The Flash is faster than Shazam as Shazam takes a tiny portion of speed from Mercury and not all of it from Earth 1's refraction. If this was the case and he did, then yeah, Shazam would be. But as there is no evidence that he has all of the speed Mercury has, then Flash is the fastest.

The most logical thing to do is go with what the comics say He has the speed of Mercury, it's been stated that the gods can be anywhere at anytime within the multiverse. Drake can't simply say just because it's an "alternate" universe that it doesn't apply. Never thought of it that way. I always assumed that Shazam only got a portion of Mercury’s speed and not his full speed since Wonder Woman gets her speed from Hermes (at least I thought but I could be wrong) and DC stated that she was faster than Shazam. So I always thought she got more speed from Hermes than Shazam did from Mercury since Wonder Woman can only catch up to the Flash’s regular speed but is supposed to be faster than Shazam.

Well experience is also at play. For example, when Wally West was kid flash, he was inexperienced and slower than Barry, but now he's the fastest flash. Same thing with Shazam. He's a kid. He clearly doesn't understand the full extent of his power and so doesn't push it to it's limit. He's also inexperienced. If he used most of his power he'd easily be faster than Wonder Woman, Superman and even the Flash!

Great video! I do have one question though. According to the Shazam back up story in the New 52 Justice League comic series, Shazam (Captain Marvel)'s powers come directly from Shazam (The original wizard) himself. Does that mean that New 52/DC Rebirth/Prime Earth Shazam may not be as fast as the Flash?

I’m pretty sure the speed force would be faster due to its much larger size than the god realm meaning a higher amount of power. Plus the god realm wouldn’t be as affixed to speed like the speed force.

Great video. In my opinion the faster character will always just depend on who's writing. I feel like Shazam gets nerfed when he works alongside anyone else so it's hard to tell, and also, some #speedforce reason will always come in to try and explain how the flash did/does the impossible since his main thing is speed and he needs to be relevant in a JLA teamup which he wont be if he's not the fastest. That's his whole thing :)

only problem is New 52 Jay Garrick stated during convergence that he does indeed use the speed force, meaning Mercury gave him access to it, meaning Mercury used it to an extent as well. The question isn't who is faster, the question is who can tap into the speed force to a greater degree, and the problem is Shazam doesn't get all those god's individual power, only a fraction of it, thus in theory Flash should be faster, however the race would be close, at least for a little while
