In a recent interview, Mulvey has stated that her famous essay was specifically analyzing 1970s Hollywood movies, and that her views from that period would not apply to current cinema.

It's the question of power "who had the hands on of production". The new trend is k-drama, 97% of the writers are women. So this is very good place to start the analysis. Yet directors are men. Now kdrama is to some extend achieving female gaze into man's body. To analyse why this is important is to look at Thelma and Louise. The writer is female, the director is male, when Thelma picks up ( Brad Pit?) and has sex with him, the camera is placed from *his* point of view, when it's her who's point of vew we are watching...

its worth mentioning that the bechdel test was originally to see if allison bechdel, famous lesbian, could pretend that the characters were also lesbians. that is important history that im not too pleased is often forgotten or left out.

How about the question where in that essay is the phrase 'male gaze' used. I mean it's implied, but...I missed it anyway!

Would you consider doing a video on Fredric Jameson’s “Third-World Literature in the Era of Multinational Capitalism?” It’s pretty straightforward, but it’s a great piece.

It's unfortunate that this idea seems restricted to cinema, and to imply that art is only a reflection of society and ought to be morally responsible, instead of a sublimation of the lizard brain. We moved on from the 70s. There's plenty of media that's geared more towards women than men. Mass appeal is awful.

There is nothing wrong with the male gaze. There is nothing wrong with the female gaze. There is something wrong with one group telling the other group it's wrong.

Male gaze is a subgenre of shoegaze that removes the effeminate features of the style making it identical to breaking Benjamin and asking Alexandria ballads on the radio.

I thought the male gaze is just a woman's body being stared at in a sexual way 🤷🏾♀️ male gaze is nothing hard. It's plain and simple as that. 🤷🏾♀️ As long as you have a female body and and fat you will be the male gaze. 🙄
