Please, Watch Argentina 1985. It’s not a crowd pleaser. It has great performances, great music, and it deals with an emotional topic. I know that as an argentinian I’m biased, but you should Watch it before making statements about it being Argentina’s oscar bate, or a crowd pleaser. Dictatorship is something that Can sadly resonate to people all over the world; making a movie about it is speaking for the victims, speaking for justice❤

Very well said. From an argentinean living in Mexico and a follower of you guys since two years ago, that enjoys your over the top reaction. I was expecting that for Argentina 1985. You should watch it before making assumptions. It is a great movies about a ver not so distant time our well. During the 70s, 30 thousand people (mostly students) disappeared in Argentina due to kidnappings orchestrated by the military dictatorship. Horrific crimes that I cannot describe here were done. Watch the movie!

I refuse to take RRR out of my top 10 because I love it so much and I’ll go down with that ship. That said, I need Naatu Naatu performed at the Oscar’s. More than that, I need the Oscar’s to not pull an Oscar move and just let it be performed, have some dancers and leave it alone. If there’s a repeat of We Don’t Talk About Bruno, I don’t want it.

Brendan will win. It doesn't matter if he doesn't win anything leading up to the oscars, he will still win the oscar. Guaranteed. Butler doesn't have the career or a storyline to back up his claim and I don't think his performance on its own is good enough to beat Colin or Brendan. That being said the Academy is full of bitches who like give the award away to impersonations so I guess you never know... Colin i feel has a chance to win further down the line and to win here I feel like he would have to be significantly better than Brendan and he is just not. Brendan has everything going for him. He has the same storyline as Ke Huy Quan which is gonna be extremely strong this award season. Losing a globe doesn't mean anything when you know how petty the HFPA is. Also Brendan just gives a performance that I honestly think is the best performance by a lead actor since Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood. So have no worries, Brendan

People in general go with what entertains, not what's 'the best'. And in Toronto (Canada!) people rarely take risks. Canadians play it safe. In years where Disney is seen as much weaker than normal that’s when the upsets usually happen. In 2018 they had two lower tier sequels so Spiderverse was easily able to take the gold. Rango won in 2011 because all Disney had was a collection of Winnie the Pooh shorts and the panned Cars 2. This year is very weak for them so I could see Pinocchio winning, but I wouldn’t count out Turning Red yet.

The humor, the (melo)drama, the performances, the different styles of directing, the original story, it was just everything all at once. I am so disappointed that it's not sweeping all the awards.... Disrespecting Argentina, 1985 and yet you guys “didn’t watch it”. It’s not “rando” and a “crowd pleaser”. It’s really well done

Argentina 1985 was really meaning for a lot of people it talks about the dictadure of our country between 1976 - 1982, it was history. And NO, is not an immitattion of law programs in the US. You should watch it first rather than criticize without knowing the full story of the movie.

first of all how could you say that Argentina 1985 was a surprise when you didnt even watch de movie. And its not like The Chicago 7 cause although the movie is about a court case. Its also about the darkest time in Argentina history, and something that is quite engrave in our hearths and skin to this day almost 40 years later. To me the race was against "All quiet in the wester front" and we beat them, i dont know if the recent events that put Argentina in the front of every paper in the world help but i wont say that didnt help

Not really. Comedy actors aren't usually as recognized as the drama category. Just look at 2019, 2020 and 2021, none of the Comedy actresses were nominated for the Oscar, not even the winners Awkwafina, Pike and Zegler.

Argentina 1985 is for me one of the best movies overall, and I can't see as Oscar bait at all, maybe you guys are culturally very far from the narrative core which is understandable, and for me the main reason it won't translate to a Oscar win per example. My theory is considering the HFPA is an organization with members from all around the globe and in theory now more diverse, all members from Latin America or with a big history background (they are from the press so we can assume there's many) supported Argentina 1985, and there was no consensus between the other members over other option. At the end I'm very glad Argentina 1985 won, is a very historically accurate and emotional, well acted and directed movie, it's the whole package, but unfortunately there's no way it will get more than a nomination for International at the Oscars, which makes the race very very interesting

RRR still has chance at nominations in Best Film, Best director and best song category. Oscar allows foreign films in Best film and best director Category. Golden globes does not allow. other wise RRR has a good chance for nominations in these categories.

I'm feeling more and more like "EEAAO" and "Banshees" split Screenplay and Director. But, even if the Oscars roll out a big night for "EEAAO" and give it the three big awards of the night (among others), I still think Kerry Condon could be this year's Tilda Swinton - her film's single win who bests the competition purely off the love so many have for her film.

She’s the most underrated of the Supporting Actress category but Stephanie Hsu gave the best most nuanced performance in that category. She’s young and isn’t as well known so doesn’t have the story of decades in the industry like some of the others but she definitely deserves a win.

I just want to defend Argentina 1985. It does have a bit of that Oscar-baitiness to it, but it's got a great lead performance, good direction, very nice aesthetically, solid script with some nice subtleties to it, really good movie imo. I do need to catch up on the other foreign language entries though, can't compare it to the other nominees yet
