@@orbitalbonsai7777 interesting question you raise. Am I my viewers keeper? It is difficult to see how a one sentence reminder of a life-threatening hazard would in any way diminish this video. @@orbitalbonsai7777I suppose that works, if you watch every video in order. Being prepared is the key even for everyday travel. I bring a pack with me on my 40-mile train commute with what I would need to stay warm and hydrated should the train get stuck and lose electrical power for multiple hours in the deep cold (5F). It has happened a few times in the past, and I’m always glad to have what I need to be comfortable.

Very wise. My first train trip I had a 6 hour stall because of icy tracks . Barely got into Chicago, couldn’t leave the station, visited for an hour with my relatives, then all of us had another very long trip back home. Totally sucked but my Indiana relatives didn’t want to change the date. I had nothing with me but I did have warm clothes in layers. Fortunately, the train had at least soda.

Luke, great PSA on the folks searching out big foot & the rescuer who perished on a rescue mission. It is a shame a rescuer had to perish because somebody was Ill-prepared. As survivalist we have one thing in common, survive. That means having the supplies you would need & knowledge of the area you are staying in. Pretty much means you are knowledgeable of what you are doing & knowledgeable of the area you are in. Sometimes we all need constant reminders to take care of ourselves. You break my heart with your night journey in your 4Runner. I just got rid of my leased 2021 4Runner that I loved. Very comfortable for me, but very expensive & at 66+ climbing around in the back for some type of sleeping arraignment was an issue. I finally got her dialed in last year, but the lease was coming up in Jan 2025, & I ventured away from Toyota for a 2023 Ram Pro Master 2500 Van where I can stand up in the van. This was more of a comfort zone move. It will be quite costly as I move along & intergrade the van into my small log cabin, but when I get her done, she will be in my comfort zone. I love your audacity to challenge nature. While most people prefer to stay at home & be cozy on those so-called Shitty Nights, you prefer to challenge Mother Nature. I spent many years as an Over The Road Trucker. Prior to trucking, I spent 8.5 years in the Air Force. That's where I learned my survival skills which got me thru my 30+ trucking years. I love your video's & have adapted much of your advice into my routine. Thank you for your service & thank you for your Public Service Announcements relating to the Outdoorsman. We can all learn from other people's mistakes. Luke, have fun in your 4Runner. I did in mine.

Growing up on the tug hill plateau in NY and then the Catskills, one learns to be prepared at all times for anything. The weather can turn on a dime, especially in winter. I have what I need to take care of basics if my van breaks down and I have two boxes of gear that will allow me to camp in my van for several days if I needed to. You don't need all kinds of fancy gear to survive, just the basics in a small box will do.

I've been stuck between Watertown and Pulaski during lake effect snows more than once - when it is snowing a foot an hour its no joke and you can be driving fine and then in snow as deep as your bumper. Now I just won't drive through the tug hill region when the lake effect machine is on. Being prepared is one thing, knowing when to just call it and don't go is another whole skill some folks still lack it seems - when even the S&R folks die on these rescues its proof that even the most prepared sometimes can't survive when you're out there.

I have a 2008 GMC Envoy that has been a wonderful vehicle for car camping. I’ve got a tent attachment for the tailgate used during warmer weather. During the winter I’ve always got an extra power unit & plenty of food in case I get stranded for a while. Our area can get a lot of snow & sub zero days. My car is always ready for that even when I’m not camping, I’ve been enjoying this type of dispersed camping for quite some time. Reflextic window coverings would help with privacy & heat retention. Really enjoy my Kovea Cupid, as i got it from your recommendation. this heater helps me significantly, as my house is very poorly insulated. Doing my laundry by hand becomes difficult in the winter, because my heater in my bathroom doesn't dry out my clothes well. Throwing the kovea cupid in there on low definitely works. one can of butane costing a little over two bucks is much cheaper than paying to dry at a laundromat. That's something like 4 or 6 hours of drying clothes for a couple bucks. To me, this is very cost efficient for drying clothes since I can't simply hang them outdoors.
