You know, that sounds like a good book title! I could see something like this written by possibly Bradbury or, for a good spooky version, King or possibly Ramsey Cambell although if it's R C, he'd stick too many "the" words into the title, like "The Store", "The Mailman", etc , etc.! Thanks for another great winter adventure video! Back in the day, I did my share of driving to get the family to a scenic spot. When I hit 50, I realized that there were fine places 45 minutes away that gave me all the outdoors I wanted to experience. Getting there and back: meh! Being there is the Real Deal!

That you absolutely love doing this. I'm an old lady (62), a fraidy cat about camping alone and have never camped in a winter storm setting BUT I can't help myself. I am addicted to your videos. I enjoy hearing your stories, the way you are so honest and loving when talking about your family and that you seem like one of the most unpretentious people I've "met". And I do learn. I think my problem is that I need to learn to transition from taking everything except the kitchen sink TO leaving things at home that I probably won't need. When I was much younger, as in almost 50 years ago, we didn't have the ultralight gear that is available nowadays. Nevertheless we would go on hunting or fishing trips way back in the wilderness areas in Wyoming and Montana. Sometimes we had a horse or two, othertimes we would backpack in. I had an external frame backpack that was fairly advanced for the early 70's. I had actually bought that pack to give to my dad for his birthday, but he looked at me like I was trying to get him to wear panty hose and refused to accept it. He had a WWII plywood pack board that was meant for hauling mortars, and that's what he used. On our trips we also took a canvas tarp, Dad's old Forest Service 36" double-bitted ax, 1/4" nylon rope, and our personal gear, including old army mummy bags. For cooking we had an old Maytag cast aluminum washing machine lid that made a great skillet, and we carried a 3 pound coffee can for boiling water. When we arrived at our campsite we'd make a lean-to out of lodgepole pine and spruce or fir branches. We'd build a super comfortable bough bed big enough for whoever was on the trip, and then we had a fireplace with log reflectors that did a really nice job of heating the lean-to. I think people don't know what comfort is out in the wild until they've slept on a bough bed. This was our camp for the next week or ten days or so. We only brought enough meat for the first evening's meal, so until we killed an elk or caught some fish we were vegetarians. Great incentive to get out and hunt. Nowadays I am 66 and still love getting out.. I've done a lot more bicycle trips here than backpacking here, although two years I did do a solo backpacking trip in a very remote area of the Tibetan Plateau in China, which I had to bail out of after several days because I got caught in a very sudden thunderstorm and my down bag was completely soaked. I was at high altitude (up to 15,300 feet) in rainy season, highs in the low 40's. It took me two days to get to a road, and another two days after that to get a ride (I stayed with a Tibetan family until I got a ride). After that it took another three days by car and then bus to finally get to the airport where I caught a flight back to my home in China. Of course I really appreciate all the lightweight gear we have these days, as my several backpacks, 4 stoves, tents, and other gear will attest to. Today I ordered a new, lighter tent, and am hoping to make it back to the Tibetan Plateau, hopefully with my younger son. I have never gotten tired of getting out and hiking or biking under my own steam, and hopefully I'll be able to continue for many years to come.

I love the out doors, after seeing 3 dog men in the forest. I been afraid of staying over night in a tent. Staying in a stronger structure like a mobile home. I am not as afraid. As long as I can drive away. After seeing them on the mountain next to us, using glass to see them. To close for me, Pa. As a lot of them, (dogmen). Please be careful, people are food for them. I just discovered your channel. I really enjoy all your adventures. I grew up in South Shore Kentucky. It's south of you. Down toward Ashland greenup way. I live in Las Vegas Nevada now for 19 years. The farm I grew up on was out Shurtz Creek. On a hill. It was in the 70's and 80's. A very secluded place no running water and the electric would go out when we would have a big rain storm. Party line for a phone lol. We cut our fire wood to cook and wash. The creek was for washing the cars and playing. Watching your channel has taught me a lot about the outdoors that I didn't know. Beautiful scenery. Beautiful snow. I lived in NC for many, many years and you are right, people can't drive in the snow, Lol. I don't miss the humid heat, skeeters and chiggers or that awful pine pollen but I do miss the beauty of NC and the mountain air. I'm to old and disabled to get out anymore for wild camping but we still hit the camp grounds so I really enjoy your videos. I am 75 now but as a youngster I had many many bare Knuckle fights and also did some Boxing with gloves.Then through my life I still kept training on the punch bag till a few years ago and yes it certainly helped destroy my wrists ,useing M14's,Bushmasters and Russian & 7.62X54R 150 aswell as 175 grain rounds didn't help my shoulders actually made me use both eyes and shoulders. Ive been looking at people doing hot tenting and I thought ok?. I started watching your adventures and I'm enthralled. Your love for snow is infectious, your skills are impressive and you are a joy to watch. I live in muskoka Ontario Canada. We're about 3.5 hrs nne of buffalo ny, we are at the southern edge of the Canadian shield. The temps you tent in are impressive as well as the accumulations of snow you embrac3 and seek out. You are just about the embodiment of "when the going gets tough, the tough get going" I think its just great how positive and cheerful you always are. Where others get grumpy and annoyed, you just seem to see another adventure and the worse conditions get, the more cheerful you become! Even when you talk about other people doing silly sh*t (in this and other vids) you never seem angry or irritated, more like amused. Thats agreat attitude to life i think. Good for the heart rate and general health not to stress unless it is absolutely necessary.

I'm really glad you brought the subject of sasquatch up again. I like to read the comments. Never seen one but experienced some unexplained things like you. The thousands of reports, one even dating back to 1490's in Leif Erickson's journal, casts with dermal ridges that couldn't be attributed to human or primate by a 30 year latent print expert (Jimmy Chilcutt), DNA blind study results confirming non human and no known animal ( No match in GenBank) is extremely compelling. DNA is the nail in the coffin in criminal cases, the results put out by numerous universities in blind studies on this subject are no different. We are not alone in the woods. Great video

I seen a helicopter trimming up a power lines through the wood once. I pulled off in someone's driveway and watched. It was awesome. When I came back through the same road they landed for the evening and I couldn't believe how big that blade was.

The little blue/gray bird is a Nuthatch. They stay upside down on the tree trunk. We would watch them all the time when we would visit my husband's parents. So cute. They make a beeping sound.

Good advice on checking for ticks. If you bring a chair that will hold your pack it's a reason to setup your chair first. Still check it for ticks but chances should be lower.

Use the gears when driving in the snow. I hate when people brake or stop when going uphill. Keep the pace or u n everyone behind you will get stuck unless you have AWD or 4x4. My first season in 5 years with front wheel drive it sucks! Thanks for the outing Luke!!

Thanks great video. Like how you do as you say. I use no cotton or down. I carry 2 tarps, one military poncho, one bivy sack, one sleeping bag good to -20, 2 military woobies, 1 home made multi fuel stove with fuel tabs, small package of charcoal. Many more items in my long range hunting pack. Stay esrm stay strong. Have fun.

I definitely think there's something in the big foot reports. I think big foot may be behind some of the many disappearances that have occurred over the years in the national parks right across the US. Yosemite national park seems to be a real hot spot for folks going missing. Crater Lake and the Great Smoky Mountains near you have had more than their fair share too

Luke, living in Germany (as an American) I envy your ability to just go out and camp. Wild camping (Wildkampen) in the southern state of Bavaria and in most other German states is illegal. In some areas it carries a hefty fine. I live near the famous castle lake of Chiemsee and have areas that could be used for stealth camping (if I could find a flat spot lol) but it is always at a risk. So, keep up the great videos and I'll live my outdoor adventurers vicariously through you.

So that ice is actually called needle ice. It occurs this time of year when there is still some liquid water in the soil that gets squeezed up and freezes upon encountering air that is well below freezing. Love that stuff.

I'll tell you a very short and 100% true story about "finding something neat" while just driving the old country back roads. About 15 years ago I was out driving the old 2 tracks in northwest Missouri, near Bethany. After travelling many miles down this overgrown 2 track I was surprised to see the 2 track abruptly open up into what appeared to be a divided 4 lane,(Still only dirt road, but definitely a 4 lane with 2 lanes width on each side of the open wide grassy divider). This 4 lane wonder went on for about a quarter of a mile and suddenly I could see a church steeple. Ended turning off the 4 lane onto a road that was 2 lanes divided by about a 4 acre wide park looking area. The divided road led me to a tiny little town...apparently long deserted, that was quite a bit overgrown with tall grass and weeds. 2 or three single building storefronts,(all emptied and cleaned out), what looked like a relatively modern (60's era),single level "school" complex built with red and tan brick, almost completely overgrown. No signs at all of any vandalism, completely locked up and secured...not a single broken window...Just entirely deserted. The school looked as if you could send in a few guys with a brush hog and some machetes and have the place back in business in less than a week. In my years of wandering I have come across similar places...though none as secluded and utterly abandoned and left alone as this. On the northwest corner of "town" was the church...this was not some one room country chapel, but was instead built like a cathedral with all of the ornate and decorative brickwork , stained glass and huge doors that you would expect to see in a very affluent neighborhood in the finer rural areas just outside any major city...This building was impressive to see. Once again, Not one single sign of vandalism...not one broken window, stained glass or otherwise...locked tightly shut and inaccessible. As I have said before, I have found somewhat similar places in my past wanderings...but nothing that I have ever seen compared to this tiny town...Most places like this give you some kind of "feeling", whether that feeling is of past happiness or a feeling of dread and sorrow...This town gave me nothing but amazement. I tried to find the place again about a month later so that I could get photos and GPS Coordinates...but could not locate it..I have searched the internet as well as the library in Bethany...but have found nothing even suggesting that such a town ever existed. I have looked at satellite images on Google of the approximate area...and once again come up empty handed....Now THAT is what I would call "finding something neat".
