Rainy camping videos are always cozy. There's just something about being in a (dry) tent or under a shelter like you were and just listen to the rain, have a hot meal or coffee. I usually don't mind when it rains when I'm camping and I can just read or listen to the radio. Of course, a sunny day is nice too. Happy birthday to Susie. I realize for you the ultimate goal is to test the tent, but if it were me, and I've done this quite a few times when I thought the weather was going to get ugly, I would set up the tent under the tarp. Just a little bit of insurance if you're not 100% confident in your tent. I also tend to use cheap, or 2nd hand tents. Thanks for the video.

You are very wise about ticks. I met a gentleman in Oklahoma who was a Longhorn Cattle rancher and he ended up with both Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Lyme Disease at the same time about a year after I met him and his wife but sadly he passed-away weeks after being infected on his very ranch. So do keep watchful about ticks.

Just stumbled on this channel in the last week or so. While I am not a huge camper myself, I’ve found I really, really enjoy your videos. Great advice and tips that anyone can use to have the best trips possible whether they camp regularly or every now and then such as myself. I find it extremely interesting to watch how you set up each camp site and deal with the varying weather and things. It has become my favorite channel to watch.

Happy Birthday Susie!! Actually what I was thinking was with my favorite combo you could have laid down and slept. Snugpak jungle bag inside the MSS bivy. Waterproof, bug/tick proof (with bug net zipped) and plenty of warmth for those temps. That combo is bomb proof for those conditions. Also I think the tent will be a nice bathtub...

I don't camp, just go for hikes in the Shropshire Hills and take my amazing little OEX Hiero stove so I can rest now and again for coffee and maybe something to eat. It's been a few years since I have tent camped, opting for a travel trailer experience in our "golden years". But back in the day when we did tent camp, we listened to the weather forecasts and if there was a chance of rain, we simply set up a tarp over the top of the tent as extra protection. This served us well through even torrential downpours and we stayed cozy & dry. I know you are testing gear for waterproofing but I for one, would never trust what any manufacturer said about their waterproof materials and would always have a tarp along as added insurance! We've watched too many families have to bail out and cut their trip short because of leaking! Thanks for another adventure!

In that wet condition it's more difficult but not impossible to make a fire. Pine trees limbs are magical. I find a lot of them were I hike (Sweden) once the branches catch fire they even burn in the rain. 🙂

This reinforces my decision to set up my new tent in the back yard and rain test it first. Also, definitely getting a pop up tent so it can easily be moved, and a tarp big enough to cover the front so I can have a place to clean my pup's paws before entering the tent... especially in the rain.

Seeing the trail camera footage of where you are camping I believe that is the spot that the bears passed through. I wasn't expecting much from the tent after your review. Might be ok if someone wants to take time to waterproof it first. After working with Boy Scouts and having a small budget it was necessary to waterproof them first thing after buying them. Hi Luke! Once more it seems like a good thing that the weather prevented you from sleeping in that leaky tent! One of the bad things about our "modern" world is that EVERYTHING is for sale for the right price. If Bushnell was a good, old-fashioned type company, I am not sure that they would sell their name to a company that obviously makes inferior products. It seems like to me, that it would in some way dilute the confidence in their other products. At least a little bit. Back in the day, companies were very proud of their name and took pride in the quality of their products. Welcome to the twenty-first century, I guess. . . .

Any time i go camping..before i go...i set the tent up an check all parts..then i spray the tent with waterproofing spray silicon..works well to make any tent dry...trust me..i hate wet mornings..

I thought the tent was gonna leak. I’m sorry to hear that it did leak, and I hope your body is still OK from sleeping in that little chair. I’m hoping for snow for your next adventure like a real snow event not these little pitiful ones with wet snow, dry snow that’s powdery and fluffy and foot of it. To take care of the ticks on lone Wolf Mountain have you considered encouraging the local turkey population to like hang out there by giving them roost to sleep under it dry area and maybe a little extra food. The reason I suggested is my brother-in-law has turkeys that have set up home in his backyard And he hardly has any ticks on his property. PS happy birthday, Susie
