Shimano Ultegra disc brake pad change

the giant tcr bike i bought this year came with the L03a on the front and L05a at the back, after 2300K the front is almost in the shape as yours while the back is still thick like it's new, dunno if it's because the front brake pad generally takes more force or the L03a just doesn't last as long as the L05a or just both. also, the front brake makes this annoying rapid clicking noise when applied.

The L05a is totally silent on this caliper with this bike/fork. Could also be a one-off, the pad material or sintering could be slightly off to generate the noise. Yes front pad needs changing 3 - 5 times before the rear. Just there is more weight at the front when braking.

Did bedding in the brakes eventually fix that rubbing issue? I’ve put some L05A-RFs on my R8070 calipers to replace the L03As and the spacing is super tight. I think these pads are thicker when new.

They very well could be. Sometimes I lap the backing plate or the pad. (Lap as in honing a plane blade, on a sheet of float glass and PSA backed sandpaper)

9:09 That's a lot of pad material. Barely get 2mm on new SRAM pads.
