When I bought my new house I went out and bought two brand new trash cans 100 bucks a piece with little rolly Wheels. First time the trash man shows up to get my trash at my new house he dumps the trash then picks my cans up over his head and throws them into my yard as far as he can breaking off the little wheels. When I call to complain they basically told me to go f*** off and laugh at me for spending that much money on trash cans. I'm a mechanic by trade so I make sure that all of the cat litter we use to soak up oil and such on the floors goes home with me to go in my trash along with random cinder blocks and heavy s*** from work enjoy picking up all 250 lb of my trash every trash day until I move.

In my city it's simple. You throw out a couch or big items you have to buy a tag from the city or it won't get picked up and the police will fine you for leaving it on the curb. It's cheaper to pay for the special ticket for the city garbage man to take it then pay a $200 ticket from the police. It's like $30 bucks to get rid of a coach so people learned real quick it wasn't worth having the cops fine them.

A message to all the trashmen. When i was a little kid we lived in townhouses where we all shared one big dumpster. Trash day was the coolest thing ever for me. As soon as i heard the trash truck I'd run outside and just watch as the big truck lifts this massive dumpsters and dumps out the trash like a total badass. And the guys getting out grabbing all the extra bags flinging em into the back of the truck like the bags are just light as a feather. There was something so mesmerizing about watching how coordinated they all were. It was like as fast as they hop off the truck and lift the dumpster, they were gone. I know i never said it to you guys, but i thought you guys were total badasses. You made my day whenever you would notice me and wave back.

I've always shown my garbage men respect, it's a tough job. When I was remodeling my first house I put a bunch of stuff by the curb that wasn't supposed to be there. I made sure that I was home when the truck came for pick up and I asked if it was ok for him to take the stuff I had put out. He said that he would take it so I helped put the garbage in his truck and thanked him. I asked him what kind of beer he liked and I would buy him a case. He told me that he was sober but liked Mt Dew. The next week I had 2 cases of Dew for him.

I was a beer delivery guy for a time. One morning on our first stop after we delivered the beverages (it was a gas station) I grabbed a breakfast sandwich and a drink and took them to the counter. When I went to pay, I kept getting declined. I knew I had money in my account and I was like "dude no, this job is hard I have to have some food." The guy behind me was like "I'll get it." It was early and he was a sanitation dude getting ready for his route for the day. He payed for my quick breakfast without hesitation. I kept wanting to run into him again and return the favor but never got to. It turns out, someone messed up at the bank and issued everyone new debit cards, which inactivated all our current cards.

When I needed to clear out my late father's house I called sanitation to request a pickup as I did not have the money for a dumpster. I always got along great with the Garbage Truck Guys. I took our trash cans up to the main "paved" road near my House. We live on a dead end dirt/gravel road and our house is the only house down that road. We own about 20 acres on both sides of the road that goes back to our House and the rest of the land behind us. I made a low to the ground trailer that I just kept the trash cans in. I would pull the trailer up to the main road every week and drop the trailer by the side of the paved road. The guys emptied the cans and sat them back in the trailer. My wife would send baked goods or a pie in a Box with me sometimes and I would leave them on top of one of the cans for the Truck Guys. They would leave a note or if I was up there to get the cans about the time they usually came by, we would talk and they thanked my better half for the treats.

I used to clean sidewalks on foot and i had people literally throwing trash at me, see me coming and try to use my tools to clean out their car, homeless people run up to my cart and start rummaging, the entitlement because they pay property taxes... I ended up switching over to hotel housekeeping and the people are just as bizarre but at least it's air conditioned.

Theo is low key a genius. Bringing in normal people we don’t know, getting them to open up about a life most of us don’t know, but also important, it’s a life that a lot of people know. My dad drove for waste management for almost 30 years. When I get home I’m sending him the link to the video I’m sure he’d appreciate it because nobody thinks or cares about the garbage man. This is awesome Theo! We hear celebs tell the same stories over and over on other podcasts that it gets annoying. But stuff we haven’t heard like this is awesome

I live in a suburb. The trash company has spelled out very clearly what they do take, what they don't take, how to properly set things out etc..... I always follow their guidelines. I usually wave and say thank you if I come across a worker. Theo should continue to bring regular blue collar workers on, those are some of the most interesting stories. I agree, the comedians are great and all, but seeing them again and again gets old.

The old days getting a town garbage job before municipalities took over was a good gig! Back in the old days mail men all walked the route, Xmas everybody gave the mailman a bottle of whiskey! Mailmen delivered to some wrong addresses during the holidays! Garbage men got treated the same! But this was when you had a milk box on your stoop! People had human emotions! Some dude drove around sharping yard tools! People at the deli knew you by name! The pizza shop dude Spoke in Italian The shoe maker was German! The permanent press guy where your mother got clothes pressed was Greek! And was a basketball fan! The donut shop was family owned. The bar owners lived in the neighborhood! Bankers are bankers but the tellers knew you by name! The insurance guy was your baseball coach! Hard to explain the simplicity of life at one time in this country! Everybody was just living the best they could! People got along with less! If you turned off your tv your mind would be free from propaganda and abuse! Which a lot of people did in the old days, weekends was for family phones did not ring! Today they come for you, in so many different Angles trying to get inside your head! With their peer pressure and social engineering! In My day Garbage-men were cool! But so was life! Cool video!

I worked as a garbage man once myself, more specifically I was the guy that rode on the back of the truck and tossed the trash in... Not the driver lol I think a lot of people tend to forget not only how NECESSARY sanitation is, but how hard the job itself is. Imagine 2-4 garbage cans per house, which could weigh anywhere from 20 to 200 pounds depending on the contents. Multiply that by dozens or hundreds of stops, depending on the size of your town or city. Beyond that, you're in the elements.. be it extreme heat, or snow and sleet. A few of the people on our route would occasionally leave treats/gift cards / etc.. mostly around the holidays. I always appreciated the entire f*** out of those people. Too many, look down on people in these sort of occupations.

Yeah I drove a garbage truck for four years and mostly older women would come yelling at me all the time. They would know they were in the wrong and have this crazy attitude. People would empty out their garage and expect us to take it. Also recycling is absolutely worthless as we’d dump both in the same landfill. No money in recycling other than pretending that it actually works.
