@jayscott306 Жыл бұрын
@@ThePapa1947Yes, the light direction and quality is the key. By quality I mean of the light, in that the sunlight or a narrow beam flashlight will show it more than right next to a table lamp, a north facing window, or 4' fluorescent shop lights. The less direct, the better, as well for chatoyancy. A camera flash would be a small direct light, small being good, direct being less ideal. A small work light from a 60 degree angle would flash beautifully. I don't need to tell you about lighting, yours is solid. :)

Thank you Chris. Some of the cedars are not so bad but this juniper was very strong. Back in 2006 something got messed up in my sense of smell and I could not tell gasoline from water. Has slow come back but some things irritate, more than being able to smell them for what they are. Doctors had no real clue but thought it could have been some infection.

Wow that has been quite a while for you. My step son lost his sense of smell when h was quite young. We always worry about a gas leak in his apt. He would have no clue there was a problem. All the best, keep up the good work. @@ThePapa1947

Gary , this piece is incredible ! A real beauty ! The grains is awesome ! I think I will have to search out some Juniper . Best be digging out those heaters . I think winter is upon us . I had to use the heater the other day when the temp in my so called shop was only 42 degrees . Happy weekend .

Thank you Jon. It is very pretty wood. May not look like it till you put the finish on but it sure is. I just found a nice heater that does not make a lot of noise and puts out some decent heat. Take care, Gary

Really nice! I have a ton of juniper trees on my property in northern arizona. I’ll have to try to turn some of that, although the species here is more of a caramel cooler inside rather than red.

Thank you Jim. If it is like what you have it is very powerful smelling. And very irritating. At leas to me. Worth a try if you take one down. Thanks for watching, Gary

I was wondering what this would look like when you showed the log. I absolutely love it. Very surprised how it finished.

Thank you Chris. I debating cutting it this way for a long time. I do like the looks of it done as an end grain turning. But I think this looks much better. Happy you liked it. Take care, Gary

Wow Gary, that is absolutely gorgeous. You really did a fantastic job turning that ugly chunk of wood into something amazing. I was wondering if it was going to stay together during those last few cuts on that but thankfully it did and you were able to bring out that incredible “fireball” feature. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you very much Scott. For sure it is not a very strong wood and you can hear that while cutting. That fireball made it all worth it for me. Thanks for watching, Gary
