It always warms our hearts to watch visitors experience the whalesharks-our migratory gentle giants that remain in the red list of vulnerable migratory species-and for you guys to make the effort of going to Donsol at that, the place where they recorded the baby male whaleshark free-swimming back in 2020 (a great sign, of course!). I am from the Philippines and have yet to make my story about my own whaleshark experience but I've always been in awe of them, and for you you both pocket this experience to take wherever your journeys take you and share it here is amazing. Thank you for doing this in Donsol. It is the more eco friendly way of swimming with the whale sharks and in support with the WWF. We were there last year and we were able to swim with 6 during our 3 hour tour. It was amazing. This is not too far from the Mayon Volcano so you can do both when in the area.

Mayon the perfect cone volcano in the world. Bohol is also one of the place that you can see whale sharks. That area is the manta bowl where you can also see the manta ray.

I'm actually so glad that you did your research for this video. As much as I understand how the locals in Oslob are just trying to make a living, the way they're doing it is just, well, unethical. I hope that their local government fixes the issue soon. I'm planning to see the whale sharks some time in the future too so this video was very helpful.

tip. when traveling to the provinces in the philippines, as soon as you get off the plane, go to the money changers in the airport. do not risk looking for atms in the small towns, they are often out of service. you're welcome!

I love whale sharks be it Donsol, Oslob or Bohol. But for me the highlight is seeing the majestic Mayon Volcano. It's larger and has a closer to perfect cone shape than Mt. Fuji. It's a shame local tourism don't promote it enough. Marvel did a better job promoting it having it as the beautiful backdrop for the Avenger movie poster.

Philippines is ranked at the top of biodiversity.. Your video shows that unlike China who thinks nothing of destroying the ecosystem at West Philippine Sea, Philippines has devised a system that allows safe eco-tourism that protects the environment but also offers livelihood to communities. For Filipinos, environment protection is a big concern. Can you imagine if instead of eco-tourism - with well qualified English-speaking guides - the income source could have been whale shark meat instead? That is what the Chinese phalanx of fishing boats at Philippine sea are doing.

You are right, the chicken or the egg is a difficult debate. We just had to make the call that we felt best about, but we certainly don't fault people for whatever decision they make. And for us, it turned out to be a wonderful experience, we made some new friends, and that seafood was a HUGE bonus 🍤 👏
