Woah, thank you- this answers so many questions. Original BD-2 has a rawness and overdriven crackle not found in the others (throaty, forward like you said). BD-2w is smoother overall: different, not better. Keeley is alright: bassier but clear. ...And that Mooer, wow- for about $40 you can't go wrong with the Keeley-esque thickness and chunk. A little muddy, but mostly there between the Keeley mod and the BD-2. One thing this demo makes clear: for the original Blues Driver sound, there's simply nothing like...the original. As a BD-2w owner, this fact stood out the most.

@Terbs-245 жыл бұрын
Also, if you run a distortion pedal, ( mein is a boss basic distortion pedal) before a blues driver, it increases the harmonics and sustain and gives you an almost plexi with fuzz feel and you dont need the phat mod. I find that the Blues Driver is an incredibly flexible pedal that combines well with other pedals, functions brilliantly as a boost and punches a hole into the neighbours wall when you throw the gain up on high. Thanks for the comparisons, great vid.

Thanks a lot for the comparison @ThePedalBored, the pedal with the best sound and practicality was the standard Boss BD 2 from Taiwan, the others were made thinking "let's put a switch so you have the option of making it sound lower, with less body and worse", marketing is impressive, you just saved me from a bad purchase. The Phat Mod can achieve the same as the standard BD 2, but that middle switch is unnecessary and only makes it sound worse, it's a shame. Thanks my friend, you have a new subscriber, please do not become a marketing mercenary, there are plenty of mercenaries on KZbin. With these audios the age-old motto continues "Less is more".

great demo! i have 3 BD-2's with one being a modded by Keely. IMO the BD-2 is one of those pedals that really can cover a lot of ground. very versatile and i always have on in tow with me to gigs or jams, either on my board or as a backup. i know if all else fails and i have to use someone else's rig or my backup amp, i can probably do a whole gig with just the BD-2 for dirt. in fact i can set the gain control fairly high (2 to 3 o'clock) and do the whole range of overdrive to distortion tones by adjusting my guitar volume knob. i usually keep the tone control below noon and more often around 9:00. another cool thing about the BD-2 is that it works really well as a clean boost if the gain knob is set to zero and adjust tone control according to taste. again, great demo. like that you use a looper and run everything through the paces.
@greggalbraith28425 жыл бұрын
Someone who understands how a comparison should be done. Thanks very much! It makes perfect sense to do at least part of a review/comparison using a loop. It might also be a good idea to add a short "truly-live" comparison because as we all know, the interaction or "feel" of an effect plays a role too. Still, your format is really good at showing subtle differences! Just as importantly, you didn't blab! (...said the guy who usually fast forwards through any talking!)
@ThePedalBored5 жыл бұрын
I'm definitely coming up against situations where the looper doesn't quite work - the Hudson Broadcast, for example. Doesn't like the looper as an input at high gain, presumably because it acts like a buffer in front of those germanium transistors. Tough to work out a solution though.

Great demo. Makes a change to the usual metal/blues shredders who do pedal demos. I've just bought a Boss BD-2 and I know for certain I've made the right choice thanks to this video. Definitely subscribing.

the differences are largely due to their respective eq curves, all of which can be corrected by either pre or post eq pedals and effects. Out of all these I thought the original sounded more throaty, but it's obvious it has a mid-range hump somewhere which is really good if you want to boost that throaty drive sound on a neck pickup on a strat. Great demo!
