Anne Boleyn died so he could be king. If Jane Seymour birthed him within Anne's marriage, he would have been a bastard like Henry Fitzroy. But all that only for a few years of reign. Again, Henry VIII was a spoiled egotistical asshole. There was no logic to his actions.

I wonder if young king, being so overly sheltered as a child, was just more susceptible to all sorts of diseases because his immune system didn't get the chance to properly develop. You gotta encounter those germs and viruses early on in order to develop resistance! Probably, once he was exposed to the real world, his body stood no chance. Such sad irony after everything that was done to bring him into the world.

Interesting... I did not even know that Henry VIII had a son that lived even after his death. I thought that Elizabeth I was the direct successor of Henry VIII because the lack of male heir. This Edward VI seemed to be a promising king... although so was his father when he was young. We can't really know what kind of king Edward would have become, but his life was definitely cut too short. It is such a pity.

A whole lot of unnecessary work trying to produce a male heir who died at 15 and never even ruled in his own right. I suppose the only positive was Elizabeth being produced as a by-product, bringing about an eventual near half century of relative stability. Of course, the by-product of Elizabeth's steadfast intent on ruling alone with no heirs of her own also ended the Tudor Dynasty for good.
