Plus we watch a lot of reactions, so we know these movies by heart and know what leads to what. Half the fun is watching newbies learn the ropes. Maybe they realize stuff afterwards while editing that they didn't say during filming. Either way, its still a treat to see MCU virgins take the journey. It won't be the same as it was for us, its their journey to take. Enjoy!

You're right about this movie showing the more human side of Tony and the change in chemistry between Tony and Pepper. Phase 2 is when we really start to see how being a superhero impacts on the lives of the characters and the people around them, and how everything has consequences.

Tony Stark's super power is his brain. It shows how quickly he made the make shift weapons and remember, he made the first suit in a cave, with scraps. The first time I saw this, I wasn't impressed. After 2-3 watches I really liked it.

This movie didn't do too well in the ratings but to me it is definately the best of the 3 Iron Man movies. You get to see him grow as a character, use his brain and engineering to defeat enemies without his suits and Pepper gets a bigger spotlight. And the kid is fun.

Yeah. I wasn't a big fan of the "clean slate protocol" ending, it left Tony naked from any further threats (what if even one of the bad guys had survived, they are pretty damn durable)? Other than that personal nitpick, it has very much become one of the best films in the collection.

The PTSD was affecting their relationship. And it definitely stressed it. His getting help removing the device that was keeping them alive knowing that there was technology to remove it and just having not done so. His addiction to his suits it's all interwoven into the PTSD and PTSD will stress any relationship anyone who is in a relationship and tries to say the PTSD suffered by one or both does not strain the relationship is not telling you the truth. That's not to say that everyone who has PTSD is doomed to ruin their relationship or end a marriage. I'm just saying it definitely adds stress to it

Tony has been through multiple traumas. He has PTSD. He never entirely gets over it. Every physical and emotional injury accumulates, and RDJ incorporates it into his performance. Some people complain that Pepper was technically the big hero, but PTSD means learning to rely on others when you need it.

This movie shows Tony's abilities without the suit. He infiltrated that compound like a boss, no suit required. Sure the suit makes him fly and gives him superhuman strength but he did most of this without it. HE IS Ironman.

This is my personal favorite Iron Man movie. It has been since the first time I saw it. A vulnerable Stark, unable to rely on not only his tech but also his friends forces him to face his mistakes alone. We get to see him grow. And that’s what I really enjoyed along with his relationship with the kid. I do wish Rebecca Hall had more to do here because she’s great but she serves the story pretty well for what she does. Overall I’ve loved this movie ever since I walked out of the theater.

yeah when this movie came out, people ragged on it pretty bad, but I really liked it myself. I LIKED that Tony couldn't rely on his suits all the time, and he had to rely on his knowledge and wits. I LIKED that they showed his weakness with his PTSD, etc, which unfortunately didn't show anymore in future movies. It's like it was only present in this movie and nothing beyond that. I actually like powerful heroes who also have a weaker side, something which gives them character. But yeh, great movie. Liked this one. :)

This movie took me multiple viewings to get it, and once I did...it is one of the best of the MCU. The dealing with PTSD, the long relationship with Pepper, the coping by tinkering with suits...all of those character elements make the characters that much richer, especially with where the overarching MCU storyline is going.

I got to see them film the air rescue when I was heading home from work one day. I was going over a bridge and got to see like, 8 people all strapped together from a crane over the river while they filmed, it was incredible. Had never seen anything like it and to this day I still haven't.

Pink Ranger suggests the relationship isnt as good in this movie... I would say the whole dilemma here is that being Iron Man is damaging Pepper and Tony's relationship. Tony has become obsessed and dysfunctional. But just because their relationship isnt flirty doesnt mean it's not romantic. They actually talk about their feelings now, they live together, have dates, share gifts. This IS the most relationship focused Iron Man film! And Tony ultimately destroys all his suits to prove his love to her... thats romantic

Another fine reaction. Thank you both! It's a relief that you enjoyed the plot twist involving the "Mandarin". Many viewers familiar with Marvel Comics were disappointed with it. In the source material, the Mandarin was a very formidable adversary, who caused Iron Man a lot of trouble over the years. Fans of those stories found this version of the character to be a letdown. And PTSD is just the beginning of after-effects that we're going to see in the lives of our heroes moving forward.

Them being ok with this version of the Mandarin shouldn't be a surprise given their lack of comic knowledge, since as you said it was the comic fans that were disappointed in the portrayal not matching up. The villain and plot-twist with Trevor plays just fine as written, it just pulled a JJ Abrams and subverted expectations a bit too much for some.

I can say that psychology is also one big reason as to why batman refuses to kill or carry a gun. He knows all too well that he's not.... entirely all there in the head. Not every superhero has PTSD, but many of them have psychological issues of some kind. Superman created unintentional psychological blocks in his head when he found out he was kryptonian that kept him from realizing his full power for a long time. Iron Man with PTSD, anxiety, and alcoholism. Captain Marvel (comic version) even WORSE alcoholism. Like to the point of Tony Stark himself telling her she needed help.

@Joseph D. Yes, I know about all of that. I also know about the feud between Fiege and Ike Perlmutter that had Fiege almost quit. Disney management sided with Fiege because, let's face it, the movies bring in more money. But the de-canonization of "Agents" would also decanonize all other Marvel television shows, like "Daredevil" even down to the failed "Inhumans", yet we see those characters returning in the films. He has gone back and forth on the issue. It is non-canon until it is not, and that's when Fiege needs a particular character from the television shows in the movies. I don't bother to hold much credence to wishy-washy proclaimations. If a show is great, then it is great. When a show has a 90+% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, I believe it is at least worth trying out and seeing if I like it. At the time it was made, it was canon, subsequent events be damned.
