If you lay down a layer of mulch in your flower beds it will do 4 things. 1- It will look tidy. 2- It will retain moisture and cut down on watering. 3- It will help keep the weeds from growing, allowing only the plants you want to grow. 4- As the mulch decomposes, it will feed and build the soil making the plants healthier year after year. 🥰Everything is looking more amazing all the time! It was nice to see Yanis up on the lift getting hands on with the wallboard installation, Simon is wonderful for teaching a new generation of trades people. It was really all hands on deck bringing in the new island, especially smashing that the gentleman delivering it showed you how it was assembled. Just an idea, use a large piece of cardboard the same size as the island (or several taped together) to get an idea of placement before putting it in the kitchen, easier to move a template than to drag the island around while figuring out the best placement.

I used to work for a smallish sized city where our street crews always tried to work with the local businesses regarding their parking needs. On the other hand they never seemed to be able to do what certain merchants wanted, that is those who yelled, screamed and grossly disrespected our workers. It’s amazing how simply being nice to people doing their jobs works, lol!

The storage chest is from a Catholic church sacristy. It is used to store altar cloths, altar veils, the priests vestments worn for Mass (such chasubles, stoles, etc…) The top is made wide in order for the vestments to be lain out in a very specific order..While vesting in preparation for the Mass the priest will pray specific prayers while putting on each garment. You have a very special and precious piece piece of furniture there.

I would say yes, I think that would be a good candidate for that function. There are several different sets of colored vestments (red, green, gold, white, purple and black) which would need to be stored. The color used by the priest on any particular day is determined by the Liturgical Calendar. For example , if the day is the feast day of a martyr, red vestments would be worn. (red signifying the blood that was shed by the martyr.)

Congrats Chris on winning the hard hat. If the furniture came out of an Abbey or a Monastary, it probably was used for sewing and cutting our fabrics. In the textile industry they have similar large tables for cutting fabric and pattern pieces. An Abbey would have made the clothes for the nuns or monks who lived there. It could also be used for making and folding the altar cloths. The nuns were also known for making huge wall fabrics to help sound proof rooms and create a bit of warmth against the cold stone walls. Ryan- what a riot. Almost like a Laurel and Hardy show!!!

I think your new kitchen island would originally have come from a church sacristy where the drawers were large enough to lay flat the priests vestments (chasubles). Each Catholic church would have several, in different colours for various times of year/occasions - red, green, white, gold & purple (for mourning) - don't ever remember seeing a blue one!

I’d say the piece of furniture is ecclesiastical as in Church or Cathedral. As soon as I saw the width of the drawers it reminded me of the cupboards used for vestments as in the cloths draped over communion tables, hung up as tapestries around the church/cathedral and also the cope and stole, cassocks and surplices worn by the clergy. The copes are the embroidered capes, the stoles are the embroidered scarf the cassocks are usually black and some Catholic Priests wear these as day wear too the surplice is the white …often linen edged with lace garment which goes over the cassock. The modern day Surplice is made of cotton and polyester and much easier to wash and iron. My Dads was linen and was a nightmare for my Mum to wash and ironing was even harder. He once got Lily pollen on his after he’d moved a flower arrangement after a wedding still wearing his newly washed and ironed surplice. My Mums wasn’t pleased when she saw what he’d done, Lily pollen stains are really hard to get rid of, thankfully somehow she did and got it washed dried and re-ironed ready for Sunday services the next day.

You guys are doing such a great job restoring this building. I just can't stop watching, I really love old buildings anyway. I can't wait to see when you have more rooms done. Beautiful job so far.

The island is gorgeous! amazing piece of furniture, I've never seen anything like it. The hit of the episode was the conversation with Ryan on the boat, so real🤭
