Yannis and Simon you are so good with Ernest, who is loving learning from you. It is so important to get children involved with things, in a positive way, keeping safe at the same time. Learning how to do things the correct way, with the proper tools of the trade, not toy ones. I had a Nursery School on the side of my house, in the 1990s, and I did woodwork with the 3 to 5 year olds, with real smaller hammers, and no one hurt themselves, because they were encouraged to take time, and do the job properly, and safety was always at the top of the list. Ernest is a chip of the old block, as they say! He is very lucky to have Billy as his father, and Billy is very lucky to have the lovely Ernest as his son. xxx

Fascinating pan around at the beginning. The angel lifting up the building that looks like a church or public building commemorates the January 23, 1871 fall of Paris to the Prussians and Germans in the Franco-Prussian war. The Latin inscription to the viewer’s right of the central image says something like “It was struck and suffered much,” but there may be words cut off by the video picture that I can’t see. Paris was surrounded, under siege and did indeed suffer much, ending with typhoid to go with humiliating surrender. Napoleon III was booted, Wilhelm I made emperor of newly named united Germany, setting Europe up for WWI which set the world up for WWII. That the sisters would have this painted in their chapel shows how deeply struck and horrified all the French were that their capitol, their jewel, their City of Light was so humiliated and devastated. It also shows these nuns “hidden away from the world” knew and cared about what was happening in their country. No doubt they had this memorial placed there to remind them to pray for the souls of those who had died in the siege. This is a hidden gem. The French will appreciate your taking care of it.

Simon...to me, having been in construction my entire lifr, (79 now), rock work IS artwork. Not only breaking the joints but, picking the right or perfect stone for that special spot. I recall a wood stove fireback that I built. Each of the owners four children picked out a stone that they liked. I then helped them set their stone in place on the eight ft x nine ft wall. I wxplained to them that they could tell family and friends, "thats my stone and I placed it there" Im sure that they still point that out as the mother and father still live there. Many Grandchildren to share with. Just a small part of my joy in construction. Sante!
