I was told 2 days ago by a point of contact nurse at Chch Hill Morton Adult Mental Heath that it was a very good thing my severely mentally ill family member was Maori as they'd be moved up the queue for critical mental health care - They got the birth date wrong on this family member and mistook them for a Maori with the same surname ! ... This is beyond belief, I knew there was systemic racism in the NZ health system, but for it to be this blatant and applied to critical care mental health is criminal. They are now bending over backwards to be nice to me because I called out the nurse for making such a blatantly racist statement, she tried to weasel out of it, even using an emotive argument about how hard they work and how hard it is on them. I called her out on that as well and was then push up the chain for a call back from a manager who while helpful didn't once mention what had just occurred and would have been made well aware as the nurse was in total panic mode once shed realized how racist shed just been - I'm now stuck in a situation whereby I need to play along to get the family member urgent help and ignore for now the blatant racist policy Ive just encountered first hand in an emergency situation concerning a young persons life that is in imminent danger .... I'm absolutely disgusted !

But she didn’t and ended up shooting herself in the foot . By prioritising any race she is preaching racism . So NO he doesn’t owe anyone an apology . The whole Maori priority issue is getting more well known but it’s still something the health system will deny .
@ronnymcdonald2543 Жыл бұрын
@@stuartlee4698 100% WRONG ... Firstly the nurse was quite excited to tell me my young family member could jump the queue for critical mental health care, she had zero feelings of empathy once her "dirty little secret" was found out, in fact she was more concerned about weaseling her way out the whole situation ! Facts are she thought she was looking at a Maori youth in critical care need and clearly stated they would get priority for critical care based on race which is not only completely inappropriate, but also racist and possibly illegal ... Smoking rates by Māori are higher than Asians, Caucasian and Pacifica... if they were in line with Caucasian smoking habits then the average Māori would live at least 2 years longer. As well, medication compliance among Māori is lower than Caucasians... I could go on but suffice to say that none of the prior reasons for shorter life expectancies have anything to do "institutional racism" or "colonialism" and all the usual causes claimed by "Progressives". When it comes to the history curriculum, you have to start somewhere, and what is taught has to be corroborative. Earlier than 1840 and you start to scratch around too much, and before 1700 you're looking more at anthropology than history. What I am concerned about is not what period is taught, rather the thought processes being taught in examining that history. NZ is currently falling down the rabbit hole of accepting the rantings of someone like Julian Batchelor as valid history and of accepting political views on their face value as history. There needs to be an overhaul of how history is taught, but teachers are scared to do this, or they're just not skilled enough to do it.

There’s no such thing as a NZ European. That’s also a racist label to box any none Maori. Find your roots and celebrate them, everybody else is, in the new divided NZ. Are you really happy to be lumped in the group of white people?
