Great review, thanks a lot and really happy you enjoyed it! The next installment will be Napoléon 1815 (Kickstarter currently running). We have a few retailers in the US, and it is possible to pledge for Napoleon 1806 and Napoléon 1807 during the KS campaign as well.

Love the "intrusion" towards the end. Always good to see at least one of the sources of the foot-stomping sounds from upstairs.

Great review as usual. Kudos for the French pronunciation (especially on Denis Sauvage's name ! ;-)). Denis Sauvage is a very respected wargame designer here in France, he's a regular contributor to the leading French wargaming scene magazine, Vae Victis, and designer of the 'Maréchaux' ('Marshalls') game system, which has 5 installments for now. 1806 and 1807 (and 1815, currently in production) are his attempt to offer a more gateway Naopelonic game system. A true achievement, if you want my opinion. As for 'overproduction' criticism, as brought by some commentators, I just cannot help to give my two cents : there is so much conservatism in the wargaming community... As if only a cigarette paper thin map, and some stamp sized cardboard counters could do the trick for 'serious' games... Guys, the wargaming hobby has much to learn and pick up from the general boargaming hobby (especially Eurogames) that is decades ahead in terms of mechanisms, production, rules organization and layout, etc. I wish there were much more crossovers between both worlds.

Hey, Polish pink was a historical color used by the Polish landers. That's why they used pink. Also, I'm sure you are aware, shako is the hat worn by many infantry during the Napoleonic era. The black stove pipe sort of one.

Nice work, gentlemen. I'll be backing the 1815 version on KS now. You mentioned using cards cards to resolve combat and I just wanted to give a shout-out to Hermann Luttmann's Steamroller: Tannenberg (and Race to the Sea) which has one of the most elegant card battle resolution systems out there - especially for a ww1 game.

Great review! Almost feel tempted to somehow make an inter-game crossing by playing the strategic campaign on this game, and the battles with C&C Napoleonics. Carrying the numbers and units from one to another. But I might be committing some form if Heresy here 🤔

Its a great game and it speaks volumes that Shakos focused their first two games in 1806 and 1807. In my mind hugely pivotal campaigns and battles in the Napoleonic era. 1807 particularly has had my interest for years so thank you for the review and a big thank you to Shakos.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't stacks movement points determined by a draw from the top of the deck? Surely your hand of cards is used for events rather than operations? Otherwise activations would be really restricted, especially on the first turn? Or am I mistaken and haven been playing wrong? I've really enjoyed it thus far and wondering if I've fudged it haha

No, we were playing just the simple "intro" version of the rules. Next time we would do the full rules, including what you alluded to.

Nice review as always! Have to admit that I'm not a big fan of that box art, but the game itself looks interesting. Are y'all planning to do a review of "War and Peace" from OSS Games? I'm anxiously awaiting my Kickstarter copy and I'd love to also know what y'all think about the game.

Thank you Gentlemen for the review. Top notch as usually :-) One question, I’m in the fence. If you were forced to pick one of the following games to take with you to desert island, which would it be? - Napoleon 1807 - Napoleon: The Waterloo Campaign, 1815 - 4th Edition - Napoleon Returns 1815? - Thanks for the reply in advance, all the best.

Haven't played The Waterloo Campaign. Napoleon 1807 has a lot more meat on the bones. Napoleon Returns is more intro level.

Big thanks for the overview ans review guys, finally made up my mind to give this series a pass - looks interesting and innovative, but also sligtly fiddly and overproduced (which does increase the price). I'd rather have it with counters & simple tracks for half the price.
