Oh, boy. I wish I was neighbours and friends of the Players Aid crew. I'd be over ALL the time. Great job, guys. Your game choices and reviews are top shelf for me.

Nice review! I have this from the original Mark Walker LnL days, although, with the quality upgrades the new folks have engineered, including the X-maps, I'd buy it again if I could afford it.

Another great vid! I’ve become a real LnL fanboy, all in on their tactical series and Nations at War.... waiting impatiently for World at War!

Any chance you can do a playthrough with this, I'm looking real close at the LnL Tactical Modern series, the Falklands caught my eye. I knew nothing about the conflict until I read more background on this. Very fascinating.

I feel LnL isn't getting the credit it deserves. It's an amazing system and with lots and lots of support... as of recent. Loving the v5 rulebook. Glad to see that you guys got around to playing it more and more. Maybe one day you guys can have a discussions and comparison of all the tactical system? But first you got to try some ASL. Love to know why people keep praising that game all the time.

In your example at the 23 minute mark, you gave your Brit squaddies a +6 attack roll bonus. I believe the max modifier you're allowed for attacks is +4. BTW, if you haven't yet played the scenario where the Argies launch a surprise attack using paratroopers and heliborne troops is insanely chaotic fun.
@michaelaltwies16676 жыл бұрын
I thought +4 was the max modifier for the terrain modifier for the defense. (+8 for snipers). I do not recall a max modifier for the attacking side.

Yup. You’re correct. I shouldn’t post at the end of a night shift.

Interesting that a game simulating an event from almost 40 years ago is considered a "modern" game. One wonders if those playing Squad Leader in 1977 looked at WW2 as "modern"???

Anything post WW2 is considered to be modern.

Great review,your reviews are one of the best for war game really enjoy them thxs,just one problem my dad says is the rules Hes buy this game then He will have to spend another £45 on updated rules as you said throw the old rules away and gets the 5.0 rules taking total price for this game upto £100 in the uk,not sure if it's worth that,be nice to hear your thoughts please.
@ThePlayersAid6 жыл бұрын
The rules included in the game are more than enough. The 5.0 are just an amalgamation of all the rules from all the titles with a lot more examples and diagrams. You do not need them to enjoy the game to it's fullest.

Alexander, you are becoming an expert in reading rulebooks. Any tips for digesting so much content?
@ThePlayersAid6 жыл бұрын
I would hardly consider myself an expert (I always make mistakes) but I am the rules reader out of the both of us. A lot of it has to do with the publisher of the game. We've played a lot of GMT for example, so I know the general layout, and the phraseology that is used. Compass Games uses a different rules style, a little more narrative. But after playing so many I'm accustomed to what I'm looking at and the digestion becomes easier. Avalon Hill on the other hand is very difficult for me to digest because it's basically a second language and the layout back in the day was entirely user-unfriendly.

@@ThePlayersAid Think you are being a little hard on yourself about the rules errors. You are playing a huge number of games. Many war gamers are rules experts because they only play a few games/systems.

All those rules, cardboard counters, maps etc. just play the digital version and simplify your life...play the digital version not that the rules.

The large core rules is a large turn off. I find these games with core rules and game specific rules confusing as someone relatively new to war gaming. I feel like if I purchase a game I’ll miss something needed and be forced to buy even more. It’s much more approachable to have everything in the box needed.
