33:27 you’re absolutely right about mentoring. In one of your podcast, one of your guest spoke about social mobility and one of the best way for that to happen is relationships/networking within your community and social circles. When I heard that, it inspired me to reach out to some people in my church community to teach their kids how to code. Learning to code has changed my life and it was a passion I found out late because I never had the opportunity to know what it was growing up. I created a curriculum and started to teach some kids. However, after the 4th lesson, I started to feel some suspicion from the dad. I could sense his worry about me teaching his children in my home for free. I eventually stopped giving my lessons because I didn’t want unnecessary rumors about me going around. It wasn’t the moms that had the issues and suspicion but rather it were the dads who didn’t trust me. As a dad myself I totally understand. Hopefully in the future, I could create a more transparent environment to make my lessons available for kids like renting out a space for kids and parents can come. But yeah, I’ve learned in today’s world, good intention isn’t enough but you need to also think about the perception and process.

Professor Scott (or if you prefer, Prof G); I don’t know if you personally review the comments section, but if not, I’m sure someone in your orbit, with access to you, must be reading - Anyway, to cut to the chase, here’s my two cents: 1) KZbin - you’re absolutely right about both the ad strategy (I pay for ad free) and the comments section. I cut out my other subscriptions (limited income household) except for KZbin, because I get the best value per dollar, and secondly, I have direct interaction with the creators. I value that. 2) Nuclear. I suspect you know enough influencers that your opinion can move thinking. So I would say this - Thorium nuclear - it’s clean, proven, and invented in the USA. But currently the Chinese government and the Indian government are eating our lunch. They are progressing the technology, while Americans continue to champion plutonium and uranium. The primary anti-nuke driver in the seventies and eighties wasn’t that “nuclear is dangerous” (though that was their tag-line); rather, it was the weapons proliferation aspect. Thorium nuclear cannot be used for weapons. The left would sign on immediately, given a good information campaign. I’m glad I discovered this podcast, Mr Galloway; you are my kind of Democratic (big D) capitalist. And continue to advocate for our young males.
@oliverpaleenКүн бұрын
Saying that thorium can't be used in nuclear weapons is technically incorrect because thorium can indeed be part of a nuclear weapons cycle, although it's not typically used as a primary fuel. Thorium in Nuclear Fuel Cycles: Thorium-232, when bombarded with neutrons, can be converted into uranium-233, which is fissile (capable of sustaining a chain reaction). Uranium-233 can, in theory, be used in nuclear weapons, much like uranium-235 or plutonium-239.
@DanielinLaTuna7 сағат бұрын
@ While I agree in principle, one advantage of thorium fuel is its low weaponization potential (you are right, it is not zero). It is difficult to weaponize the uranium-233 that is bred in the reactor. Plutonium-239 is produced at much lower levels and can be consumed in thorium reactors.

Thanks for the nuclear tip; but you guys need reminding that the bulk of existing nuclear plants like the ones working now for Constellation Energy and other utilities are at or past their design lives and system additions have capital & O&M costs that exceed that of renewable energy resources. We ALL may be over-thinking this. Estimated increased electrical load due to AI is around 100 to 120 terawatts per year for the country. Do the math, and it comes out to about 14,000 megawatts of instantaneous use; or just about one-half of California's electrical load right now and a little bit less than it's current solar & renewable current generation.

Need to have more info, but the nuclear build cost, is insane. No build in the last 15 years has not been less than two years and $2B off estimates. Utility solar takes about 9 months to build. Nuclear, we're talking about a five year estimate that will turn into 7-10 years. The cost per KW is orders of magnitude lower for utility Solar and/or onshore wind. You can put money in, but I doubt you're going to get it back out. We're already talking about a 1.6B federally guaranteed loan for the company rebuilding 3 mile Island. I mean... What could go wrong? With our tax dollars guaranteeing it? MS is signing a deal for a set $/MW, but what if they can't make a profit after the costs skyrocket? We'll be on the hook for that loan they can't afford to payback.
@DanielinLaTuna2 күн бұрын
If 3-Mile does repower, it should be with Thorium technology. It was invented in the USA (Oak Ridge National Laboratory), it is proven, it is clean, it is non-proliferation friendly (neither thorium nor its byproducts can be used in nuclear weapons). Though it was invented here, the USA based industry hasn’t given it a chance, yet China and India are both racing to bring competitive thorium reactors in line in the near future. If GE, Westinghouse, and General Dynamics have their way, of course, we will let China and India beat us…

You guys really missed the point regarding KZbin. The reason to bet on KZbin is not the comments section or the AD support. Tons of platforms have both and more. The reason KZbin has outlasted competition (and I believe will outlast TikTok) is because of the partnership program. KZbin invests back into their creators. It does that significantly better than all other platforms. KZbin understands that without their creators they are nothing. Behind the scenes KZbin has fought hard to find a decent balance between freedom of speech vs being advertiser friendly vs investing back into creators.

My niece has a phone for communication reasons and is only allowed to use social media with my sister walking her through using it going over posts. Obviously some parents don't have the time or capabilities to do this. There definitely should be laws in place to ban phones in school and ban social media or some how prevent un-supervised social media usage (maybe some type of nanny account where they can only use it with a parent around?).

Actually, I take exception to the unconditional advice to the kid with the basketball scholarship. It might very well be that he should go to MIT, but it is just as possible that taking the scholarship is his best path. You need to listen to the kid and make sure he's heard and he knows he's heard. I'm sure you agree with me, but the high-falutin' University diploma isn't always the right choice. You can learn anywhere, really. But, yes, if your path is enabled by that high-falutin' diploma, then you should learn at MIT or Stanford.

7:38 - I just don’t see it… imo. How is Tesla, already polluting, going to handle nuclear waste? A typical nuclear power plant employs 500 to 1,000 people depending on its size and complexity. Modern designs, like small modular reactors (SMRs), may require fewer staff due to automation but still need highly skilled personnel. idk a worthy goal to start looking at, but it’s not gonna be realized for a decade.

KZbin certainly has a lot of future potential, in addition to what it has already attained. Concerns of mine are the continual "demonetization" complaints I hear from creators where, seemingly, arbitrary means of declaring a video is demonetized with little or poor resources for overcoming the problem. It is the sort of thing where I could see whatever the modern equivalent of a union forming to establish rules on the creator's behalf. Right now, KZbin is a "take-it or leave-it" platform. Those that make a living with it will have a more reliable source of income, such as Patreon and other paid subscription based. Along the same lines, these alternate means of getting content also allows "uncensored' versions. KZbin seems to be the big platform to snare viewers/listeners in but people would go elsewhere if there was another credible platform.
