I’ve found tears really beneficial as a psych, obviously I’m not bawling my eyes out, but there’s been moments I’ve become teary and it’s supported the rapport. Though I find I’m usually teary when the client is seeing progress. Proud tears!

your story about showing up your 75% when suffering from your own problem made me accept myself more. i'm on a part time job of helping people with mental disorders getting a job and sometimes it's hard to feel like "i have to work with 100% energy." but yes we're humans we can't always be 100%. it's important that we continue in a sustainable way🌱 i'm aiming to become a counselor hopefully in 5years and your video always keeps me motivated🤍 Thank you so much for your video!(from japan)

I'm so glad to hear that! Funnily enough I often found taking off the pressure to be be 100% perfect made it easier to show up authentically. Your work sounds so incredibly important, all the best

@@AuroraDream_sky hi, I'm more than happy to help, actually university policies are different in each country for example India or Russia or Dubai is advanced I literally have no idea what are their requirements if I were you I would have contacted the university and asked them, and I currently study psych in Iran the quality is not good at all I have to do a lot of reading on my own mostly because my country is more or less something between north Korea and china and the freedom of subjects we study are limited and must be suitable to our regime but I know that turkey has good universities they are more European and free, so I strongly recommend to stay far far away from Iran😑🤞🏻

What do you do if a client is attracted to you or flirts with you? How do you set a boundary? or do you have to discontinue therapy with them?

I think you are very caring and are able to explain things very well. I loved the honesty especially about the attraction part. I just couldn‘t help and laugh when you said“spider phobia“because you work in Australia😆must be a big problem for people.

Quite concerning you can't properly empathise with "older while males". Seek supervision.

Thank you for your concern haha- it's an interesting point and I think there's a difference between empathising from a client-therapist perspective as all emotions are universal + providing value from the psych literature vs really "getting" the client on a deep personal level which I'm referring to in the video. In regard to the latter, sometimes it is a barrier, but we're a diverse group practice and not every psych needs to be a perfect fit for every client!

@@thepsychdiaries It does come across as a little concerning. The narrative in Western countries for the past number of years has been to unfairly vilify white males. As a white male myself, it does get tiresome to hear that you're the devil, when the reality is quite the opposite. While it is not likely you will have the same life experience as an old white guy, that probably rings true for a lot of your clients, irrespective of demographic.
